    The Importance of Project Manager’s Soft Competence on IT Project Success: An Exploratory Study in the Banking Context

    The high failure rate of IT projects has continued for more than three decades. The premise of this research is that IT project success depends not only on technical skills and knowledge (such as in civil engineering) but also on the “soft” aspects such as project manager’s competence to effectively interact with various stakeholders and align the project with their expectations. This research examines the most critical IT project manager’s soft competences required for IT project success in the banking industry. The findings from multiple case studies and survey analysis will have significant implications for both research and practice in the field of IT project success, IT investment and development of IT professionals, especially in the banking sector.     Inverse seesaw and dark matter in models with exotic lepton triplets

    We show that models with exotic leptons transforming as E ~ (1,3,-1) under the standard model gauge symmetry are well suited for generating neutrino mass via a radiative inverse seesaw. This approach realizes natural neutrino masses and allows multiple new states to appear at the TeV scale. The exotic leptons are therefore good candidates for new physics that can be probed at the LHC. Furthermore, remnant low-energy symmetries ensure a stable dark matter candidate, providing a link between dark matter and the origins of neutrino mass.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures (revtex4.1, two-columns

    We propose a simple unified description of two recent precision measurements which suggest new physics beyond the Standard Model of particle interactions, i.e. the deviation of sin2θW\sin^2 \theta_W in deep inelastic neutrino-nucleon scattering and that of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon.     Variations in water use by a mature mangrove of Avicennia germinans, French Guiana

    In the tropical intertidal zones, little is known on water uptake by mangroves. Transpiration rates are generally measured at leaf level, but few studies exist on water use at tree or stand levels. The objective of this study was to measure sap flow in trees of different sizes to appreciate the range of variation in water use that may exist in a site dominated by 80% mature Avicennia germinans. The results showed that from the dry to the wet season the mean water use increased from 3.2 to 5.3 dm3 d−1 in small trees (DBH ∼ 13 cm), from 11.5 to 30.8 dm3 d−1 in medium trees (∼24 cm) and from 40.8 to 64.1 dm3 d−1 in large ones (∼45 cm). Sapwood remained active up to a depth of 8 cm with radial variations within the stem. Weak correlations were obtained with VPD and net radiation. This study confirmed that transpiration was larger under low levels of salinity. Water use at stand level (∼1900 living stems ha−1) was estimated to be in the range of 5.8 to 11.8 m3 ha−1 d−1 according to the season

    Studies of the pollen abortion mechanism in thermo-sensitive male sterile lines may provide a strong foundation for breeding hybrid wheat and establishing a theoretical basis for marker-assisted selection. To investigate the cause of pollen abortion in Bainong thermo – sensitive male sterile (BNS) lines, we analyzed the properties of pollen grains, changes in the tapetum and microspores in different anther developmental stages, and the distribution and deposition of nutrient substances in microspores. We found that tapetum degraded in the early uninucleate stage in sterile BNS (S-BNS), which was earlier than that of fertile BNS (F-BNS) tapetum. Large amounts of insoluble polysaccharides, lipids, and proteins were deposited until the trinucleate pollen stage in the nutritive cells in F-BNS. At the binucleate stage, the vacuoles disappeared and pollen inclusion increased gradually. At the trinucleate stage, these nutrients would help pollen grains mature and participate in fertilization normally. Therefore, early degradation of the tapetum, which inhibits normal microspore development, and the limited content of nutrient substances in pollen may be the main factors responsible for male sterility in BNS lines

    The recent Super-Kamiokande data now admit only one type of mass hierarchy in a framework with three active and one sterile neutrinos.
