Antistaphylococcal Activity of Selected Thiourea Derivatives
Five of thiourea derivatives were prepared using as a starting compound 3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline, 4-chloro-3-nitroaniline, 1,3-thiazol-2-amine, 2H-1,2,3-triazol-4-amine and commercial isothiocyanates. All compounds were evaluated in vitro for antimicrobial activity. Derivatives 2 and 3 showed the highest inhibition against Gram-positive cocci (standard and hospital strains). The observed MIC values were in the range of 0.5–8 μg/ml. The products effectively inhibited the formation of biofilms of methicillin-resistant and standard strains of Staphylococcus epidermidis. Inhibitory activity of thioureas 2 and 3 against Staphylococcus aureus topoisomerase IV was studied. The examined compounds were nongenotoxic

Tinnitus - selected models of phantom sound perception
Tinnitus (“ringing in the ears”) is sometimes described as a phantom sound. The phenomenon consists of the perception of a sound of various quality (ringing, hissing, buzzing or a permanent tone) that has no external source and is believed to be the consequence of the nervous system activity. Tinnitus was recognized already in ancient times. Nowadays, millions of people perceive tinnitus, some to a debilitating degree. In its chronic form it is often linked to hearing problems, lowered satisfaction with life and depression. The aim of this paper is to present a Polish reader with the most prominent models that explain the evolution and maintenance of tinnitus perception from different perspectives (physiology, neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science)
MODEL OF THE LABOR MARKET DYNAMICS WITH HETEROGENEOUS LABOR FORCE
The article presents a model of the labor market dynamics with heterogeneous employment structure, e.g. involving workers with different productivity depending on qualifications. This model allows to examine labor market flows and their dependencies on factors such as the minimum wage, whether it is imposed at all, and finally the structure of workers’ qualifications. Using dynamical systems to describe the issue enables the analysis of existence, type and stability of the labor market equilibrium. Construction of the theoretical model has been supplemented by computer simulations allowing for proposing and verifying hypotheses about the dynamics of employment and unemployment
MODEL OF THE LABOR MARKET DYNAMICS WITH HETEROGENEOUS LABOR FORCE
The article presents a mathematical model of the labor market describing the dynamics of the phenomena in the labor market. In this model, using the theory of dynamical systems, the most important factor is exchange of information on employment opportunities between the participants of the labor market – unemployed and employed. Qualitative analysis of the created model shows that the flow of information between employees or between the unemployed and employed significantly affect the dynamics of the labor market. The impact of information exchange between the participants of the labor market may cause a sudden change in the nature of its dynamics and the transition between cyclic and non-cyclic dynamics
The influence of different kinds of externally generated noise on tinnitus perception
Wydział Nauk SpołecznychProblem: Celem obecnych badań było zbadanie wpływu wybranych rodzajów szumu generowanego na percepcję tinnitusu. Eksperymenty psychofizyczne: 1) Przy użyciu szumu pasmowozaporowego badano potencjalne jakościowe podobieństwo tinnitusu i iluzji ciągłego tonu Zwickera. 2) Poszukiwano zależności pomiędzy psychofizycznymi krzywymi strojenia (PTC) i krzywymi strojenia tinnitusu (TTC) poprzez zastosowanie pasma szumu o szerokości 320Hz o różnych częstotliwościach środkowych. 3) Weryfikowano efektywność amplitudowo zmodulowanego białego szumu o różnych częstotliwościach modulacji do wytworzenia zjawiska hamowania szczątkowego (RI), polegającego na chwilowym wyciszeniu tinnitusu w następstwie prezentacji szumu. Uczestnicy: Przebadano 117 pacjentów z kliniki w Marsylii i w Poznaniu. Wyniki: 1) iluzja ciągłego tonu Zwickera przypomina tinnitus tonalny i w niektórych
przypadkach czyni go niesłyszalnym lub
nieodróżnialnym od iluzji, 2) charakterystyka
aktywności układu słuchowego związanej z
postrzeganiem tinnitusu i realnie istniejącego
dźwięku są bardzo różne, 3) biały szum
zmodulowany amplitudowo jest skuteczniejszy w
wywoływaniu zjawiska hamowania szczątkowego
od niezmodulowanego bodźca. Wnioski:
Uzyskane wyniki przemawiają za użytecznością
stosowania generowanego szumu w badaniach i
pracy z pacjentami z tinnitusem. Szum może
znaleźć zastosowanie zarówno diagnostyczne jak i
terapeutyczne. Objective: The goal of this work was to investigate
the influence of different kinds of externally
generated noise on tinnitus perception.
Psychophysical Experiments: 1) Notched noise
was used to test whether the continuous Zwicker
tone illusion may resemble tonal tinnitus. 2) The
relationship between the psychometric tuning
curves and the tinnitus tuning curves was
investigated. 3) The effectiveness of amplitude
modulated sounds in producing the residual
inhibition was tested. Results: 1) The illusion
resembled experience of tonal tinnitus, and in
some cases made it inaudible. 2) The
characteristics associated with the perception of
tinnitus and the perception of real tone were very
different. 3) Amplitude modulated sounds were
found to be more effective than unmodulated white
noise in eliciting the temporal elimination of tinnitus
perception. Conclusions: Generally, the results
confirm the usability of externally generated noise
in research and work with tinnitus patients. Noise
can be applied diagnostically and therapeutically
Sleep deprivation and work efficiency based on example of a group of professional lawyers
Do badania zastosowano 6 kwestionariuszy, były to następujące ankiety – Kwestionariusz Chronotypu Halszki Ogińskiej, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Pytania o sen – ogólne, sen poprzedniej nocy, Skala Chica oraz Kwestionariusz Rokuro Kosugo. Main theoretical thesis described in this work is dream, its definition, its functions and the consequences of its deprivation. The sleep deprivation and its consequences are also a part of the research process. This study was carried out on a group of 100 people employed in legal profession . The aim of the study was to examine the quality of the dream and to learn about its impact on the work efficiency. The study used the 6 questionnaires as follows - Questionnaire about the Chronotype of Halszka Ogińska (Halszka Ogińska's Chronotype?), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, general questions about sleep, previous night's sleep, the CHIC Scale and Rokuro Kosugo's questionnaire. The study group did show a small percentage of sleep's low quality or chronic fatigue syndrome: irritability, anxiety, general decrease in motivation to work and symptoms associated with chronic sleep deprivation: the level of hunger, cold, irritability and ability to concentrate. The results showed that on average one third of lawyers have problems with the work efficiency due to sleep deprivation
A Narrative Review of Preclinical In Vitro Studies Investigating microRNAs in Myocarditis
According to the World Health Organization’s statement, myocarditis is an inflammatory myocardium disease. Although an endometrial biopsy remains the diagnostic gold standard, it is an invasive procedure, and thus, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging has become more widely used and is called a non-invasive diagnostic gold standard. Myocarditis treatment is challenging, with primarily symptomatic therapies. An increasing number of studies are searching for novel diagnostic biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets. Microribonucleic acids (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNA molecules that decrease gene expression by inhibiting the translation or promoting the degradation of complementary mRNAs. Their role in different fields of medicine has been recently extensively studied. This review discusses all relevant preclinical in vitro studies regarding microRNAs in myocarditis. We searched the PubMed database, and after excluding unsuitable studies and clinical and preclinical in vivo trials, we included and discussed 22 preclinical in vitro studies in this narrative review. Several microRNAs presented altered levels in myocarditis patients in comparison to healthy controls. Moreover, microRNAs influenced inflammation, cell apoptosis, and viral replication. Finally, microRNAs were also found to determine the level of myocardial damage. Further studies may show the vital role of microRNAs as novel therapeutic agents or diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers in myocarditis management
