Effects of 5-Aza-2\u27 Deoxycitidine and Sulforaphane on Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) classes I and II surface expression in human acute T-cell leukemia cell Jurkat

    Get PDF
The immune system cells recognize and kill cancer cells by engaging the tumor antigens on the surfaces of cancer cells presented by the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC). Cancer cells can escape from immune system cells recognition and/or killing by down-regulating the MHC expression through genetic or epigenetic mechanisms

Background: H. bacciferum belonging to the family Boraginaceae is an important medicinal plant. The current research was carried out to investigate the medicinal properties of this plant.Methodology: The crude (methanol fraction) and n-hexane, ethyl acetate, butanol and aqueous fractions were subjected to antibacterial and antifungal activities by using standard methodology available in literature. Bacterial strains of Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas Aeroginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Erwinia carotovora, Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus atrophaeus were used for antibacterial activity. Results: All the fractions were active against different bacterial strains but n-hexane and ethyl acetate showed (Zone of inhibition ranged from 18-30 mm) highest activity. The fungal strains, Trichoderma longibrachiantum, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium solani and Candida albican were used for antifungal activity. Excellent inhibitory effect was observed against all fungal strains. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against various fungal strains was determined. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the investigated plant fractions ranged from 0.5- 2.00 mg/ml.Conclusion: The plant showed significant antibacterial and antifungal activities. All tested plant extracts exhibit activities against different fungal strains. The result against various microorganisms shows the therapeutic potential of the plant H. bacciferumKeywords: H. bacciferum, Medicinal Plant, crude fractions, Antimicrobial activities

Comparative study of body composition of four fish species in relation to pond depth

Fish specimen of Labeo rohita , Cirrhinus mrigala , Hypophthalmicthys molitrix and Catla catla were sampled from three ponds of different depths (152 cm, 122 cm and 76 cm) to compare the body composition of these species in relation to pond depth. There was significant (P < 0.001) effect of pond depth on water, ash, organic, fat and protein contents (all % wet and dry body weight). It was observed that pond depth has significant effect (P < 0.01) on condition factor in pond B (122 cm depth) and no effect in pond A and C. Maximum mean values of body composition were observed in Labeo rohita in all the three ponds. Present study demonstrates that fish cultured in ponds of different depths have different values of protein which can help guide the farmers to select best pond depths to produce protein rich fish

    Decision Agriculture

In this chapter, the latest developments in the field of decision agriculture are discussed. The practice of management zones in digital agriculture is described for efficient and smart faming. Accordingly, the methodology for delineating management zones is presented. Modeling of decision support systems is explained along with discussion of the issues and challenges in this area. Moreover, the precision agriculture technology is also considered. Moreover, the chapter surveys the state of the decision agriculture technologies in the countries such as Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Israel, Malaysia, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Ukraine, and Sweden. Finally, different field factors such as GPS accuracy and crop growth are also analyzed

Autonomous Irrigation Management in Decision Agriculture

    Get PDF
In this chapter, the important application of autonomous irrigation management in the field decision agriculture is discussed. The different types of sensor-guided irrigation systems are presented that includes center pivot systems and drip irrigation systems. Their sensing and actuator components are with detailed focus on real-time decision-making and integration to the cloud. This chapter also presents irrigation control systems which takes, as an input, soil moisture and temperature from IOUT and weather data from Internet and communicate with center pivot based irrigation systems. Moreover, the system architecture is explored where development of the nodes including sensing and actuators is presented. Finally, the chapter concludes with comprehensive discussion of adaptive control systems, software, and visualization system design

Current quark mass dependence of nucleon magnetic moments and radii

A calculation of the current-quark-mass-dependence of nucleon static electromagnetic properties is necessary in order to use observational data as a means to place constraints on the variation of Nature's fundamental parameters. A Poincare' covariant Faddeev equation, which describes baryons as composites of confined-quarks and -nonpointlike-diquarks, is used to calculate this dependence The results indicate that, like observables dependent on the nucleons' magnetic moments, quantities sensitive to their magnetic and charge radii, such as the energy levels and transition frequencies in Hydrogen and Deuterium, might also provide a tool with which to place limits on the allowed variation in Nature's constants.Comment: 23 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables, 4 appendice

The latest developments in Internet of Underground Things are covered in this chapter. First, the IOUT Architecture is discussed followed by the explanation of the challenges being faced in this paradigm. Moreover, a comprehensive coverage of the different IOUT components is presented that includes communications, sensing, and system integration with the cloud. An in-depth coverage of the applications of the IOUT in various disciplines is also surveyed. These applications include areas such as decision agriculture, pipeline monitoring, border control, and oil wells

Identification of gene specific cis-regulatory elements during differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells: An integrative approach using high-throughput datasets.

    Get PDF
Gene expression governs cell fate, and is regulated via a complex interplay of transcription factors and molecules that change chromatin structure. Advances in sequencing-based assays have enabled investigation of these processes genome-wide, leading to large datasets that combine information on the dynamics of gene expression, transcription factor binding and chromatin structure as cells differentiate. While numerous studies focus on the effects of these features on broader gene regulation, less work has been done on the mechanisms of gene-specific transcriptional control. In this study, we have focussed on the latter by integrating gene expression data for the in vitro differentiation of murine ES cells to macrophages and cardiomyocytes, with dynamic data on chromatin structure, epigenetics and transcription factor binding. Combining a novel strategy to identify communities of related control elements with a penalized regression approach, we developed individual models to identify the potential control elements predictive of the expression of each gene. Our models were compared to an existing method and evaluated using the existing literature and new experimental data from embryonic stem cell differentiation reporter assays. Our method is able to identify transcriptional control elements in a gene specific manner that reflect known regulatory relationships and to generate useful hypotheses for further testing.Wellcome Trust, BBSRC, CRU
