Generalised technique for the estimation of probable maximum precipitation in India
In this paper a version of a generalised method of estimating probable maximum precipitation (PMP) is applied to the catchments of four large dams in India. The value of a secure dam is high both in terms of human life and in economic terms. Following the unanimous approval of the Executive Committee on the International Union of Geological Sciences as notified on April 8, 2016, the Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the base of the Albian Stage of the Cretaceous is defined at the first occurrence datum of the planktonic foraminiferan Microhedbergella renilaevis Huber and Leckie, 2011 at a level 37.4 meters above the base of the Marnes Bleues Formation and 40 cm above the base of the Niveau Kilian marker bed in the section SSE of the Col de Pré-Guittard, Arnayon, Drôme, France. The first occurrence of Microhedbergella renilaevis is placed within a 100-m section of argillaceous sediments with 28 secondary markers including calcareous nannofossils, planktonic foraminifera, an inoceramid bivalve, ammonites, stable carbon isotopes, and local marker beds
Exploring attention in vr:Effects of visual and auditory modalities
Attention requires the ability to stay concentrated and alert to stimuli over prolonged periods of time. Virtual reality (VR) can be used in various training situations where attention plays a major role (e.g. system operators). Here, we investigate the effects of visual and auditory stimuli on attention performance in a VR aquarium (Nesplora Aquarium). Participants pay attention to the main fish tank and respond by pressing a button. The stimuli are different species of fish that are delivered either via visual or auditory channels. Thirty-seven participants completed the VR test and paper questionnaires. We found that attention is influenced differently by sensory modalities. Attention performance measured by the reaction time to correct targets and the number of errors of omission were better in the visual condition, while the number of errors of commission were lower in the auditory condition. The human factors’ role in attention tasks is also discussed.</p
Intersecting D4-branes Model of Holographic QCD and Tachyon Condensation
We consider the intersecting D4-brane and anti-D4-brane model of holographic
QCD, motivated by the model that has recently been suggested by Van Raamsdonk
and Whyte. We analyze such D4-branes by the use of the action with a
bi-fundamental ``tachyon'' field, so that we find the classical solutions
describing the intersecting D4-branes and the U-shaped D4-branes. We show that
the ``tachyon'' field in the bulk theory provides a current quark mass and a
quark condensate to the dual gauge theory and that the lowest modes of mesons
obtain mass via tachyon condensation. Then evaluating the properties of a pion,

Solution structure of a repeated unit of the ABA-1 nematode polyprotein allergen of ascaris reveals a novel fold and two discrete lipid-binding sites
Parasitic nematode worms cause serious health problems in humans and other animals. They can induce allergic-type immune responses, which can be harmful but may at the same time protect against the infections. Allergens are proteins that trigger allergic reactions and these parasites produce a type that is confined to nematodes, the nematode polyprotein allergens (NPAs). These are synthesized as large precursor proteins comprising repeating units of similar amino acid sequence that are subsequently cleaved into multiple copies of the allergen protein. NPAs bind small lipids such as fatty acids and retinol (Vitamin A) and probably transport these sensitive and insoluble compounds between the tissues of the worms. Nematodes cannot synthesize these lipids, so NPAs may also be crucial for extracting nutrients from their hosts. They may also be involved in altering immune responses by controlling the lipids by which the immune and inflammatory cells communicate. We describe the molecular structure of one unit of an NPA, the well-known ABA-1 allergen of Ascaris and find its structure to be of a type not previously found for lipid-binding proteins, and we describe the unusual sites where lipids bind within this structur
On effective actions of BPS branes and their higher derivative corrections
We calculate in detail the disk level S-matrix element of one Ramond-Ramond
field and three gauge field vertex operators in the world volume of BPS branes,
to find four gauge field couplings to all orders of up to on-shell
ambiguity. Then using these infinite couplings we find that the massless pole
of the field theory amplitude is exactly equal to the massless pole S-matrix
element of this amplitude for the case to all orders of .
Finally we show that the infinite massless poles and the contact terms of this
amplitude for the case can be reproduced by the Born-Infeld action and

Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization for the minimum labelling Steiner tree problem
Particle Swarm Optimization is an evolutionary method inspired by the
social behaviour of individuals inside swarms in nature. Solutions of the problem are
modelled as members of the swarm which fly in the solution space. The evolution is
obtained from the continuous movement of the particles that constitute the swarm
submitted to the effect of the inertia and the attraction of the members who lead the
swarm. This work focuses on a recent Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization for combinatorial optimization, called Jumping Particle Swarm Optimization. Its effectiveness is
illustrated on the minimum labelling Steiner tree problem: given an undirected labelled
connected graph, the aim is to find a spanning tree covering a given subset of nodes,
whose edges have the smallest number of distinct labels
Conserved Genetic Interactions between Ciliopathy Complexes Cooperatively Support Ciliogenesis and Ciliary Signaling
Mutations in genes encoding cilia proteins cause human ciliopathies, diverse disorders affecting many tissues. Individual genes can be linked to ciliopathies with dramatically different phenotypes, suggesting that genetic modifiers may participate in their pathogenesis. The ciliary transition zone contains two protein complexes affected in the ciliopathies Meckel syndrome (MKS) and nephronophthisis (NPHP). The BBSome is a third protein complex, affected in the ciliopathy Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS). We tested whether mutations in MKS, NPHP and BBS complex genes modify the phenotypic consequences of one another in both C. elegans and mice. To this end, we identified TCTN-1, the C. elegans ortholog of vertebrate MKS complex components called Tectonics, as an evolutionarily conserved transition zone protein. Neither disruption of TCTN-1 alone or together with MKS complex components abrogated ciliary structure in C. elegans. In contrast, disruption of TCTN-1 together with either of two NPHP complex components, NPHP-1 or NPHP-4, compromised ciliary structure. Similarly, disruption of an NPHP complex component and the BBS complex component BBS-5 individually did not compromise ciliary structure, but together did. As in nematodes, disrupting two components of the mouse MKS complex did not cause additive phenotypes compared to single mutants. However, disrupting both Tctn1 and either Nphp1 or Nphp4 exacerbated defects in ciliogenesis and cilia-associated developmental signaling, as did disrupting both Tctn1 and the BBSome component Bbs1. Thus, we demonstrate that ciliary complexes act in parallel to support ciliary function and suggest that human ciliopathy phenotypes are altered by genetic interactions between different ciliary biochemical complexes
On the use of the group SO(4,2) in atomic and molecular physics
In this paper the dynamical noninvariance group SO(4,2) for a hydrogen-like
atom is derived through two different approaches. The first one is by an
established traditional ascent process starting from the symmetry group SO(3).
This approach is presented in a mathematically oriented original way with a
special emphasis on maximally superintegrable systems, N-dimensional extension
and little groups. The second approach is by a new symmetry descent process
starting from the noninvariance dynamical group Sp(8,R) for a four-dimensional
harmonic oscillator. It is based on the little known concept of a Lie algebra
under constraints and corresponds in some sense to a symmetry breaking
mechanism. This paper ends with a brief discussion of the interest of SO(4,2)
for a new group-theoretical approach to the periodic table of chemical
elements. In this connection, a general ongoing programme based on the use of a
complete set of commuting operators is briefly described. It is believed that
the present paper could be useful not only to the atomic and molecular
