Evolution of thymopoietic microenvironments
In vertebrates, the development of lymphocytes from undifferentiated haematopoietic precursors takes place in so-called primary lymphoid organs, such as the thymus. Therein, lymphocytes undergo a complex differentiation and selection process that culminates in the generation of a pool of mature T cells that collectively express a self-tolerant repertoire of somatically diversified antigen receptors. Throughout this entire process, the microenvironment of the thymus in large parts dictates the sequence and outcome of the lymphopoietic activity. In vertebrates, direct genetic evidence in some species and circumstantial evidence in others suggest that the formation of a functional thymic microenvironment is controlled by members of the Foxn1/4 family of transcription factors. In teleost fishes, both Foxn1 and Foxn4 contribute to thymopoietic activity, whereas Foxn1 is both necessary and sufficient in the mammalian thymus. The evolutionary history of Foxn1/4 genes suggests that an ancient Foxn4 gene lineage gave rise to the Foxn1 genes in early vertebrates, raising the question of the thymopoietic capacity of the ancestor common to all vertebrates. Recent attempts to reconstruct the early events in the evolution of thymopoietic tissues by replacement of the mouse Foxn1 gene by Foxn1-like genes isolated from various chordate species suggest a plausible scenario. It appears that the primordial thymus was a bi-potent lymphoid organ, supporting both B cell and T cell development; however, during the course of vertebrate, evolution B cell development was gradually diminished converting the thymus into a site specialized in T cell development

Nonholonomic constraints in -symplectic Classical Field Theories
A -symplectic framework for classical field theories subject to
nonholonomic constraints is presented. If the constrained problem is regular
one can construct a projection operator such that the solutions of the
constrained problem are obtained by projecting the solutions of the free
problem. Symmetries for the nonholonomic system are introduced and we show that
for every such symmetry, there exist a nonholonomic momentum equation. The
proposed formalism permits to introduce in a simple way many tools of
nonholonomic mechanics to nonholonomic field theories.Comment: 27 page
Measurement of parity-nonconserving rotation of neutron spin in the 0.734-eV p-wave resonance of
The parity nonconserving spin rotation of neutrons in the 0.734-eV p-wave
resonance of was measured with the neutron transmission method. Two
optically polarized cells were used before and behind a a 5-cm long
target as a polarizer and an analyzer of neutron spin. The rotation
angle was carefully measured by flipping the direction of polarization
in the polarizer in sequence. The peak-to-peak value of the spin rotation was
found to be rad/cm which was consistent with
the previous experiments. But the result was statisticallly improved. The s-p
mixing model gives the weak matrix element as meV. The
value agrees well with the one deduced from the parity-nonconserving
longitudinal asymmetry in the same resonance
Coherent states on spheres
We describe a family of coherent states and an associated resolution of the
identity for a quantum particle whose classical configuration space is the
d-dimensional sphere S^d. The coherent states are labeled by points in the
associated phase space T*(S^d). These coherent states are NOT of Perelomov type
but rather are constructed as the eigenvectors of suitably defined annihilation
operators. We describe as well the Segal-Bargmann representation for the
system, the associated unitary Segal-Bargmann transform, and a natural
inversion formula. Although many of these results are in principle special
cases of the results of B. Hall and M. Stenzel, we give here a substantially
different description based on ideas of T. Thiemann and of K. Kowalski and J.
Rembielinski. All of these results can be generalized to a system whose
configuration space is an arbitrary compact symmetric space. We focus on the
sphere case in order to be able to carry out the calculations in a

Reconstruction in quantum field theory with a fundamental length
In this paper, we establish an analog of Wightman's reconstruction theorem
for nonlocal quantum field theory with a fundamental length. In our setting,
the Wightman generalized functions are defined on test functions analytic in a
complex l-neighborhood of the real space and are localizable at scales large
compared to l. The causality condition is formulated as continuity of the field
commutator in an appropriate topology associated with the light cone. We prove
that the relevant function spaces are nuclear and derive the kernel theorems
for the corresponding classes of multilinear functionals, which provides the
basis for the reconstruction procedure. Special attention is given to the
accurate determination of the domain of the reconstructed quantum fields in the
Hilbert space of states. We show that the primitive common invariant domain
must be suitably extended to implement the (quasi)localizability and causality
