    Mariner Mars 1971 optical navigation demonstration

    The feasibility of using a combination of spacecraft-based optical data and earth-based Doppler data to perform near-real-time approach navigation was demonstrated by the Mariner Mars 71 Project. The important findings, conclusions, and recommendations are documented. A summary along with publications and papers giving additional details on the objectives of the demonstration are provided. Instrument calibration and performance as well as navigation and science results are reported

    This is a tribute to all of you, the elders, who served CMFRI in various capacities in the past 60 years to make this institution a standing testimony to the devotion and dedication of the numerous scientists, technical and administrative staff who made this institution stand apart and shine amidst the best marine fisheries institutions in the world. Hats off to each one of you for what you have done for CMFRI, the fruits of which are here to stay. My personal gratitude to all of you for all the support and encouragement you have been giving me in the past seven years and I will always cherish the time I spent in CMFRI, contributing my small mite to the development of this premier institution. I had requested several of our former colleagues to write a few words about their memories in CMFRI. Many responded promptly, a few thought it was not worth writing. I thank you all for putting in so few words so much of feelings and emotions which truly reflect what CMFRI means to each one of you. And let me assure you all that each one of you mean so much for each one of us passing through the corridors of this great institution, reminding us that there are miles to go before we sleep, miles to go before we sleep

    Breeding for Improvement of High Temperature Tolerance in Garden Pea (Pisum sativum L.) for off Season Cultivation

    The present investigation is aimed towards breeding varieties of garden pea for early summer cultivation (March-May) that can tolerate temperatures up to 35 0C. High temperature tolerant accessions KTP-4, Arka Sampoorna, Oregon Sugar, Magadi local were crossed with Arka Ajit, Arka Pramodh, Arka Priya having superior pod quality, yield and followed by pedigree method of breeding, superior transgressive segregants from these crosses were advanced up to F 7 generation. In F 7, six selected advanced breeding lines were assessed for their performance in the field with checks during early summer for four years in succession. Results revealed significant differences between selected lines and checks wherein all the lines surpassed checks with yield ranging from 5.9-7.6 t/ ha and in checks it was only 2.6-3.1 t/ha. Among these six breeding lines, three lines were selected based on high yield (6.7-7.6 t/ha), pod quality characters and identified to be highly suitable for early summer cultivation

    Background: In this changed lifestyle of human beings, he has become a victim of several diseases, amongst them one is Varicose Veins, which are caused due to long standing or sitting in chairs which causes extra load on veins to pump the blood against gravity towards the Heart, especially the veins of the legs. Finally the veins get fatigued that leads to dilation and cause Varicosity in veins. Objectives: To compare the effect of Siravyadhana and Basti in the management of Siraja Granthi (Varicose Vein). Methods: Cases presenting with classical signs and symptoms of Siraja Granthi were randomly divided into 2 groups. Group A was treated with Siravyadhana and Group B were subjected for Sahacharadi Basti. The data was collected before treatment and after 8th day and 30th days. The obtained data was statistically analyzed. Results: 20 patients in Group A, 93.33% reduction was seen in Shoola, while 93.02% reduction was found in Group B. In Gaurava 86.36% reduction was found in Group A and 85.71% reduction was seen in Group B. Shotha was decreased by 67.74% in Group A, while 62.65% in Group B. In Sira Utseda, 54.05% reduction was seen in Group A and 47.36% reduction in Group B. Conclusion: Group A, cases showed better improvement. Out of 20 patients, 2 patients got complete remission in Group A, 2 patients showed excellent response, while in Group B, 6 patients showed excellent response, In Group A and B, 11 and 8 patients showed good response respectively. In Group A and B, 5 and 6 patients showed moderate response

    Evaluation of the Anxiolytic Activity of NR-ANX-C (a Polyherbal Formulation) in Ethanol Withdrawal-Induced Anxiety Behavior in Rats

    The present study investigates the anxiolytic activity of NR-ANX-C, a standardized polyherbal formulation containing the extracts of Withania somnifera, Ocimum sanctum, Camellia sinensis, Triphala, and Shilajit in ethanol withdrawal- (EW-) induced anxiety behavior in rats. Ethanol dependence in rats was produced by substitution of drinking water with 7.5% v/v alcohol for 10 days. Then, ethanol withdrawal was induced by replacing alcohol with drinking water, 12 hours prior to experimentation. After confirming induction of withdrawal symptoms in the alcohol deprived animals, the anxiolytic activity of the test compound in graded doses (10, 20, and 40 mg/kg) was compared to the standard drug alprazolam (0.08 mg/kg) in the elevated plus maze and bright and dark arena paradigms. In our study, single and repeated dose administration of NR-ANX-C reduced EW-induced anxiety in a dose-dependent manner. Even though the anxiolytic activity was not significant at lower doses, NR-ANX-C at the highest dose tested (40 mg/kg) produced significant anxiolytic activity that was comparable to the standard drug alprazolam. Based on our findings we believe that NR-ANX-C has the potential to be used as an alternative to benzodiazepines in the treatment of EW-induced anxiety

    Varietal Evaluation of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) in Kachchh, India

    Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is one of the important fruit crops of semi-arid regions of the western border of India with Kachchh district of Gujarat comprising of the highest area and production. The majority of the plantations in this area are seed propagated, resulting in high variability and irregular orchards. For systematic planting, a variety of desired quality is required for which this experiment was laid out in 2007 to evaluate five promising varieties viz., Barhee, Halawy, Khunezi, Khalas and Selection-3 in an RBD design, replicated four times. Evaluation of all these varieties was done during 2016-18 when all the plants came into regular bearing. Observations with respect to vegetative characters, yield attributing characters, duration of fruit harvesting and fruit characters were recorded and finally varieties were compared with a scorecard to identify the best variety for commercial cultivation. After the evaluation, it was found that Barhee performed best among the cultivars compared and is suitable for commercial cultivation in the Gujarat state of India

    Drug-induced cutaneous adverse drug reactions in dermatology in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College

    Background: Cutaneous adverse drug reactions (ADRs) affect 2-3% of hospitalized patients. The severity varies from mild itching to life-threatening Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS). Hence, this study was undertaken to emphasize the need to report ADRs.Methods: The study was carried out in the Department of Dermatology in Dr. B.R Ambedkar Medical College Hospital from June to December 2012. Naranjo’s algorithm was used to determine the causality of an ADR. Informed consent was obtained from each patient, and thorough clinical examination was conducted. All the information was carefully recorded in a pre-designed proforma. To establish the etiologic agent for a particular type of reaction, attention was paid to the drug history, temporal correlation with the drug, duration of the reaction, morphology of the reaction, associated mucosal or systemic involvement, improvement of lesions on withdrawal of the drug.Results: In the present study, all the age groups were affected with cutaneous ADRs, with a higher incidence in age group between 31 and 40 years, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (41.66%) were most commonly observed drug, followed by anti-microbials (25%) and anti-convulsants (21.66%). Fixed drug eruptions (FDE) (46.66%) most commonly observed cutaneous reaction, followed by SJS (16.66%), erythema multiformae (16.66%) most commonly observed ADRs.Conclusions: ADRs are potentially avoidable causes for seeking medical care. FDE was most common ADR and NSAIDs were most common causative agents in our study. ADRs can be prevented by avoiding polypharmacy, obtaining history of any previous skin reaction and the causative agent
