Maximum Overlap Molecular Orbitals in Square Pyramidal (CH)5+ Cation

    Get PDF
Applying the maximum overlap criterion, the localized molecular orbitals of square pyramidal (CH)/ cation have been determined. The resulting multi-center bonding orbitals are examined in detail. In addition, the basal C-C and all C-H bonds are compared with those of the more familiar systems, e. g., cyclobutane and cyclobutene

Note: A versatile mass spectrometer chamber for molecular beam and temperature programmed desorption experiments

    Get PDF
A dual purpose mass spectrometer chamber capable of performing molecular beam scattering (MBS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) is detailed. Two simple features of this design allow it to perform these techniques. First, the diameter of entrance aperture to the mass spectrometer can be varied to maximize signal for TPD or to maximize angular resolution for MBS. Second, the mass spectrometer chamber can be radially translated so that it can be positioned close to the sample to maximize signal or far from the sample to maximize angular resolution. The performance of this system is described and compares well with systems designed for only one of these techniques

Maximum Overlap. Hybridization in PF5 and SF4

The method of Murrell as modified by Golebiewski has been applied to determine the maximum overlap hybrid orbitals for PF5 and SF4• For the former system, three cases have been considered: cr overlap integrals of the central atom valence and F 2p orbitals are (i) taken as angular parts of P atomic orbitals projected in the bond directions, (ii) evaluated using SCF atomic wave functions with equidistant F ligands, and (iii) calculated using experimental bond lengths. The resultant overall hybridizations are compared and discussed. For SF4, only case (iii) has been carried out. In addition, the wave function of the lone pair orbital is obtained with symmetry consideration and orthonormality relationships among all the hy- . brids. This appears to be an inexpensive way to determine the form of the lone pair and to estimate its size

Creation and control of a two-dimensional electron liquid at the bare SrTiO3 surface

Many-body interactions in transition-metal oxides give rise to a wide range of functional properties, such as high-temperature superconductivity, colossal magnetoresistance, or multiferroicity. The seminal recent discovery of a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) at the interface of the insulating oxides LaAlO3 and SrTiO3 represents an important milestone towards exploiting such properties in all-oxide devices. This conducting interface shows a number of appealing properties, including a high electron mobility, superconductivity, and large magnetoresistance and can be patterned on the few-nanometer length scale. However, the microscopic origin of the interface 2DEG is poorly understood. Here, we show that a similar 2DEG, with an electron density as large as 8x10^13 cm^-2, can be formed at the bare SrTiO3 surface. Furthermore, we find that the 2DEG density can be controlled through exposure of the surface to intense ultraviolet (UV) light. Subsequent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements reveal an unusual coexistence of a light quasiparticle mass and signatures of strong many-body interactions.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, supplementary information (see other files

DerechoMaking this monograph grade , I ratify the importance of the concept of historical heritage property . And we review the appointment , procedure and responsibility for it under the meaning of the Act 163 of 1959 , created in his time in the rule of law and its amendment before the promulgation of the Constitution of 1991 , which introduced the shift to the State of law. We will make a critical analysis of the historical, that is just the tangible and intangible assets accumulated over time , may be of artistic, historical , paleontological , archaeological or literature containing a representative value and specific. The owners of these properties should receive benefits for the conservation of these properties. But the reality shows that are being severely punished a legal duty not required to bear. Any action on the part of society and the state is facing and supported by legal rules. Which contribute to the development and understanding of the nation , provided they are given within the framework of absolute peace and harmony. Overall most authors of legal philosophy , agree in stating that a state of law , proposed to strengthen and guarantee services considered essential rights . To maintain the standard of living necessary to participate as a member of society. We couldn´t finish this book without touching the issue of social and economic obligation of the State to legally declared historical heritages.

Quasiparticle dynamics and spin-orbital texture of the SrTiO3 two-dimensional electron gas

Two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) in SrTiO3_3 have become model systems for engineering emergent behaviour in complex transition metal oxides. Understanding the collective interactions that enable this, however, has thus far proved elusive. Here we demonstrate that angle-resolved photoemission can directly image the quasiparticle dynamics of the dd-electron subband ladder of this complex-oxide 2DEG. Combined with realistic tight-binding supercell calculations, we uncover how quantum confinement and inversion symmetry breaking collectively tune the delicate interplay of charge, spin, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom in this system. We reveal how they lead to pronounced orbital ordering, mediate an orbitally-enhanced Rashba splitting with complex subband-dependent spin-orbital textures and markedly change the character of electron-phonon coupling, co-operatively shaping the low-energy electronic structure of the 2DEG. Our results allow for a unified understanding of spectroscopic and transport measurements across different classes of SrTiO3_3-based 2DEGs, and yield new microscopic insights on their functional properties.Comment: 10 pages including supplementary information, 4+4 figure

Conjugated Linoleic Acid Supplementation Does Not Reduce Visceral Adipose Tissue in Middle-Aged Men Engaged in a Resistance-Training Program

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) supplementation has shown convincing effects at reducing body fat in animals; yet human study results have been somewhat inconclusive. The purpose of this study is to determine whether four weeks of CLA supplementation, the approximate length of a commercial package, can result in a positive change in visceral adipose tissue in resistance-trained middle-aged men. Thirty overweight and moderately obese, but otherwise healthy male subjects (aged 35 to 55 years) currently involved in resistance training, were randomly assigned into CLA and placebo groups in a double-blind, placebo controlled approach. The study lasted for 12 weeks and consisted of three four-week periods. During the first four weeks (run-in period) each subject received placebo (4 g safflower oil). Throughout the next four weeks (supplementation period), the placebo group continued receiving placebo, while the CLA group received 3.2 g/d of CLA. During the final four weeks (run-out period) all subjects received the placebo. Computed tomography (CT) scans were used to measure visceral adipose tissue (VAT) at weeks 4, 8 and 12. No significant reduction in VAT cross-sectional area was determined in the CLA group during the study. On the contrary, a significant reduction in cross-sectional area of VAT of 23.12 cm2 during the supplementation period was measured in the placebo group, which was abated during the run-out period. Our results suggest that CLA supplementation of 3.2 g/d for four weeks does not promote decreases in VAT in middle-aged men currently participating in a resistance-training program
