Quality and Availability of spectrum based routing for Cognitive radio enabled IoT networks

    Get PDF
With the recent emergence and its wide spread applicability Internet of Things (IoT) is putting pressure on network resources and most importantly on availability of spectrum. Spectrum scarcity is the issue to be addressed in networking within IoT. Cognitive radio is the technology which addresses the problem of spectrum scarcity in an efficient way. Equipping the IoT devices with cognitive radio capability will lead to a new dimension called cognitive radio enabled IoT devices. To achieve ON-demand IoT solutions and interference free communications cognitive radio enabled IoT devices will become an effective platform for many applications. As there is high dynamicity in availability of spectrum it is challenging for designing an efficient routing protocol for secondary users in cognitive device networks. In this work we are going to estimate spectrum quality and spectrum availability based on two parameters called global information about spectrum usage and instant spectrum status information. Enhanced energy detector is used at each and every node for better probability of detection. For estimating spectrum quality and availability we are introducing novel routing metrics. To have restriction on the number of reroutings and to increase the performance of routing in our proposed routing metric only one retransmission is allowed. Then, two algorithms for routing are designed for evaluating the performance of routing and we find that the bit error rates of proposed algorithms (nodes are dynamic) have decreased a lot when compared to conventional methods (Nodes are static) and throughput of proposed algorithm also improved a lot

Objectives: The objective of this study was to compare the skin closure time, postoperative pain and the scar outcome between tissue adhesive and sub-cuticular sutures in thyroid surgery. Methods: This was a prospective, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial. A sample size of 64 in each group was calculated. Adult patients undergoing thyroid surgery were included while those with previous neck surgery, history of keloids/hypertrophic scars and those undergoing concomitant neck dissections were excluded. Following platysma closure, they were randomised into two groups - tissue adhesive or subcuticular sutures, using Serially Numbered Opaque Sealed Envelopes technique. The primary outcome was the skin closure time. The secondary outcomes were postoperative pain at 24 hours and scar scoring at 1st and 3rd post-operative month. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software version 19.0 for Windows. Results: The median skin closure time and postoperative pain was significantly lower in the tissue adhesive group as compared to the suture group (p<0.01). However, there was no statistically significant difference in scar outcome at 1st month (p=0.088) and in 3rd month (p=0.137) between the two groups. There were no wound-related complications in either group. It was seen on a subgroup analysis that there was no difference in the scar outcome or wound-related complications in patients with comorbidities. There were no instances of allergic contact dermatitis to the tissue adhesive. Conclusion: The use of tissue adhesive leads to lower operative time and less post-operative pain in thyroid surgeries. The scar outcome is comparable between tissue adhesives and subcuticular sutures. Keywords: Thyroidectomy; scar; tissue glue; subcuticular suture

371-375Drought stress in rainfed ecosystem significantly limits the production of Ranjit, the most predominant high yielding rice variety of Assam. A mapping population comprising 85 F4 individuals between Ranjit and a drought tolerant cultivar, ARC10372 was developed and genotyped with 80 microsatellite markers in order to understand the genetic basis of drought tolerance. The linkage map constructed based on a framework linkage map using these markers showed that the marker loci were distributed across 12 chromosomes spanning a distance of 273.4 cM with an average interval of 3.41 cM between marker loci. Most of the marker loci were found to be in good fit with the expected Mendelian segregation ratio; however, thirteen marker loci in total showed segregation distortion on six chromosomes. The linkage map generated in the study will facilitate mapping of quantitative trait loci imparting drought tolerance in rice of Assam and their map-based cloning

Folate Decorated Dual Drug Loaded Nanoparticle: Role of Curcumin in Enhancing Therapeutic Potential of Nutlin-3a by Reversing Multidrug Resistance

Retinoblastoma is the most common intraocular tumor in children. Malfunctioning of many signaling pathways regulating cell survival or apoptosis, make the disease more vulnerable. Notably, resistance to chemotherapy mediated by MRP-1, lung-resistance protein (LRP) is the most challenging aspect to treat this disease. Presently, much attention has been given to the recently developed anticancer drug nutlin-3a because of its non-genotoxic nature and potency to activate tumor suppressor protein p53. However, being a substrate of multidrug resistance protein MRP1 and Pgp its application has become limited. Currently, research has step towards reversing Multi drug resistance (MDR) by using curcumin, however its clinical relevance is restricted by plasma instability and poor bioavailability. In the present investigation we tried to encapsulate nutlin-3a and curcumin in PLGA nanoparticle (NPs) surface functionalized with folate to enhance therapeutic potential of nutlin-3a by modulating MDR. We document that curcumin can inhibit the expression of MRP-1 and LRP gene/protein in a concentration dependent manner in Y79 cells. In vitro cellular cytotoxicity, cell cycle analysis and apoptosis studies were done to compare the effectiveness of native drugs (single or combined) and single or dual drug loaded nanoparticles (unconjugated/folate conjugated). The result demonstrated an augmented therapeutic efficacy of targeted dual drug loaded NPs (Fol-Nut-Cur-NPs) over other formulation. Enhanced expression or down regulation of proapoptotic/antiapoptotic proteins respectively and down-regulation of bcl2 and NFκB gene/protein by Fol-Nut-Cur-NPs substantiate the above findings. This is the first investigation exploring the role of curcumin as MDR modulator to enhance the therapeutic potentiality of nutlin-3a, which may opens new direction for targeting cancer with multidrug resistance phenotype

Numerical simulation and experimental validation of the hydrodynamics in a 350 kW bubbling fluidized bed combustor

This paper presents experimentally validated three-dimensional numerical simulation of a 350 kW pilotscale bubbling fluidized bed combustor, which has been developed by using commercial CFD software package, Fluent 14.5. The solid particle distribution has been simulated by using the multiphase Euler–Euler Approach. The gas–solid momentum exchange coefficients were calculated by using Syamlal and O’Brien drag functions. The CFD model is created as the realistic representation of the actual pilot-scale bubbling fluidized bed. All simulations are performed in transient mode for an operation time of about 350 s. The experimental study is performed with silica sand particles with mean particle size of 0.6 mm and density of 1639 kg/m3. The bed was filled with particles up to a height of 0.30 m. The same conditions are used for the simulations. The present work combines both experimental and computational studies, where the CFD-Simulation results are compared to those obtained by experiments. The predicted simulation results of minimum fluidization velocity and pressure drop values of the pilot-scale bubbling fluidized bed combustor have good agreement with the experimental measurements

Effective Rheology of Bubbles Moving in a Capillary Tube

We calculate the average volumetric flux versus pressure drop of bubbles moving in a single capillary tube with varying diameter, finding a square-root relation from mapping the flow equations onto that of a driven overdamped pendulum. The calculation is based on a derivation of the equation of motion of a bubble train from considering the capillary forces and the entropy production associated with the viscous flow. We also calculate the configurational probability of the positions of the bubbles.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

Tendon and ligaments have poor healing capacity and when injured often require surgical intervention. Tissue replacement via autografts and allografts are non-ideal strategies that can lead to future problems. As an alternative, scaffold-based tissue engineering strategies are being pursued. In this review, we describe design considerations and major recent advancements of scaffolds for tendon/ligament engineering. Specifically, we outline native tendon/ligament characteristics critical for design parameters and outcome measures, and introduce synthetic and naturally-derived biomaterials used in tendon/ligament scaffolds. We will describe applications of these biomaterials in advanced tendon/ligament engineering strategies including the utility of scaffold functionalization, cyclic strain, growth factors, and interface considerations. The goal of this review is to compile and interpret the important findings of recent tendon/ligament engineering research in an effort towards the advancement of regenerative strategies
