Distance Bounding Protocols on TH-UWB Link and their Analysis over Noisy Channels
Relay attacks represent nowadays a critical threat to authentication protocols. They cab be thwarted by deploying distance bounding protocols on an UWB radio. Exploiting the characteristics of time-hopping UWB radios to enhance distance bounding protocols leads to two design strategies. The first one is based on a secret time-hopping code while the mapping code is public. The second strategy exploits a secret mapping code with a public time-hopping code. The merits of each strategy are established over noise-free and noist channels as well as for different radio parameters
SDR for SRD: ADC specifications for reconfigurable gateways in urban sensor networks
International audienceShort Range Devices (SRD) are increasingly employed in urban sensor networks using different communication protocols. That becomes a key problem in the gateway design, since its cost and energy consumption increase with the number of implemented technologies. This cost and energy can be reduced by using a reconfigurable gateway to perform the biggest part of signal processing digitally, as it is done in Software-Defined Radio (SDR). As several received signals should be simultaneously digitized, Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) must be able to treat the whole frequency band used by SRD, with a high enough resolution to properly demodulate the signals. This paper describes what the ADC's constraints are and how to dimension an ADC in SDR for SRD. An example based on the SmartSantander deployment shows that an ADC resolution of 23 bits is required to properly demodulate the data
Technology Roadmap for Beyond 5G Wireless Connectivity in D-band
International audienceWireless communication in millimeter wave bands, namely above 20 GHz and up to 300 GHz is foreseen as a key enabler technology for the next generation of wireless systems. The huge available bandwidth is contemplated to achieve high data rate wireless communications, and hence, to fulfill the requirements of future wireless networks. Several Beyond 5G applications are considered for these systems: high capacity back-haul, enhanced hot-spot kiosk as well as short-range Device-to-Device communications. In this paper we propose to discuss the trade-offs between scenario requirements and current silicon technologies limits to draw a technology roadmap for the next generation of wireless connectivity in D-band

Learning hierarchical resource allocation and multi-agent coordination of 5G mobile IAB nodes
International audienceWe consider a dynamic millimeter-wave network with integrated access and backhaul, where mobile relay nodes move to auto-reconfigure the wireless backhaul. Specifically, we focus on in-band relaying networks, which conduct access and backhaul links on the same frequency band with severe constraints on co-channel interference. In this context, we jointly study the complex problem of dynamic relay node positioning, user association, and backhaul capacity allocation. To address this problem, with limited complexity, we adopt a hierarchical multi-agent reinforcement with a two-level structure. A high-level policy dynamically coordinates mobile relay nodes, defining the backhaul configuration for a low-level policy, which jointly assigns user equipment to each relay and allocates the backhaul capacity accordingly. The resulting solution automatically adapts the access and backhaul network to changes in the number of users, the traffic distribution, and the variations of the channels. Numerical results show the effectiveness of our proposed solution in terms of convergence of the hierarchical learning procedure. It also provides a significant backhaul capacity and network sum-rate increase (up to 3.5x) compared to baseline approaches

MAC design for 5G dense networks based on FBMC modulation
International audienceThe fifth generation (5G) of wireless networks is currently under investigation in order to address the well-known challenges of the high capacity demands and traffic volume. The promising solutions to meet these targets can be achieved through ultra-densification, efficient use of spectrum and advanced filtered modulation techniques. In this paper, we present an enhanced MAC protocol for 5G small cells operating at 5 GHz and assuming an FBMC physical layer. The proposed MAC design consists of scheduled-based and contention-based access schemes and involves a listen before talk (LBT) procedure to comply with ETSI regulations. The performance of the proposed FBMC-MAC design is then evaluated in dense deployment scenarios under different PHY/MAC parameter settings. Moreover, we study the performance of FBMC-MAC systems in the context of coexistence with WiFi systems
