    Quartic Anomalous Couplings in γγ\gamma\gamma Colliders

    We study the constraints on the vertices W+WZγW^+W^- Z\gamma, W+WγγW^+W^-\gamma\gamma, and ZZγγZZ\gamma\gamma that can be obtained from triple-gauge-boson production at the next generation of linear e+ee^+e^- colliders operating in the γγ\gamma\gamma mode. We analyze the processes γγW+WV\gamma\gamma \to W^+W^-V (V=ZV=Z, or γ\gamma) and show that these reactions increase the potential of e+ee^+e^- machines to search for anomalous four-gauge-boson interactions.Comment: 15 pages, Latex file using ReVteX, 4 uufiled figures include

    Sneutrino Mass Measurements at e+e- Linear Colliders

    It is generally accepted that experiments at an e+e- linear colliders will be able to extract the masses of the selectron as well as the associated sneutrinos with a precision of ~ 1% by determining the kinematic end points of the energy spectrum of daughter electrons produced in their two body decays to a lighter neutralino or chargino. Recently, it has been suggested that by studying the energy dependence of the cross section near the production threshold, this precision can be improved by an order of magnitude, assuming an integrated luminosity of 100 fb^-1. It is further suggested that these threshold scans also allow the masses of even the heavier second and third generation sleptons and sneutrinos to be determined to better than 0.5%. We re-examine the prospects for determining sneutrino masses. We find that the cross sections for the second and third generation sneutrinos are too small for a threshold scan to be useful. An additional complication arises because the cross section for sneutrino pair to decay into any visible final state(s) necessarily depends on an unknown branching fraction, so that the overall normalization in unknown. This reduces the precision with which the sneutrino mass can be extracted. We propose a different strategy to optimize the extraction of m(\tilde{\nu}_\mu) and m(\tilde{\nu}_\tau) via the energy dependence of the cross section. We find that even with an integrated luminosity of 500 fb^-1, these can be determined with a precision no better than several percent at the 90% CL. We also examine the measurement of m(\tilde{\nu}_e) and show that it can be extracted with a precision of about 0.5% (0.2%) with an integrated luminosity of 120 fb^-1 (500 fb^-1).Comment: RevTex, 46 pages, 15 eps figure

    Signal and Backgrounds for the Single Production of Scalar and Vector Leptoquarks at the LHC

    We perform a detailed analysis of the potentiality of the CERN Large Hadron Collider to study the single production of leptoquarks via ppe±qpp \to e^\pm q\to leptoquark e±q\to e^\pm q, with e±e^\pm generated by the splitting of photons radiated by the protons. Working with the most general SU(2)LU(1)YSU(2)_L \otimes U(1)_Y invariant effective lagrangian for scalar and vector leptoquarks, we analyze in detail the leptoquark signals and backgrounds that lead to a final state containing an e±e^\pm and a hard jet with approximately balanced transverse momenta. Our results indicate that the LHC will be able to discover leptoquarks with masses up to 2--3 TeV, depending on their type, for Yukawa couplings of the order of the electromagnetic one.Comment: Revtex, 23 pages, 11 postscript files.     Fat content affects bioaccessibility and efficiency of enzymatic hydrolysis of lutein esters added to milk and yogurt

    ABSTRACT Addition of lutein to dairy products is an alternative that widens the range of foods which could be lutein source. However, bioaccessibility is an essential aspect to be considered during the development of products with added bioactive substances. We evaluated the in vitro bioaccessibility of lutein esters added to milk and yogurt with different fat contents, and determined the efficiency of enzymatic hydrolysis of the esters during digestion. Bioaccessibility of lutein and efficiency of hydrolysis were significantly lower in skimmed products than semi-skimmed and whole products, indicating thata minimal amount of fat is required to allow micellization and hydrolysis. The efficiency of ester hydrolysis ranged between 12-35%, which was attributed to pancreatic lipase. Whole and semi-skimmed samples were shown to be good vehicles for the addition of lutein, since presented bioaccessibility indices (38.3-47.5%) similar to those found in natural food sources of xanthophylls

    Direct Signals for Large Extra Dimensions in the Production of Fermion Pairs at Linear Colliders

    We analyze the potentiality of the new generation of e+ee^+e^- linear colliders to search for large extra dimensions via the production of fermion pairs in association with Kaluza-Klein gravitons (G), i.e. e+effˉGe^+e^- \leftarrow f\bar{f}G. This process leads to a final state exhibiting a significant amount of missing energy in addition to acoplanar lepton or jet pairs. We study in detail this reaction using full tree level contibutions due to the graviton emission and the standard model backgrounds. After choosing the cuts to enhance the signal, we show that a linear collider with a center-of-mass energy of 500 GeV will be able to probe quantum gravity scales from 0.96(0.86) up to 4.1(3.3) TeV at 2(5)σ\sigma level, depending on the number of extra dimensions.Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures.     We present the first measurements of the differential cross section d sigma/dp(T)(gamma) for the production of an isolated photon in association with at least two b-quark jets. The measurements consider photons with rapidities vertical bar y(gamma)vertical bar < 1.0 and transverse momenta 30 < p(T)(gamma) < 200 GeV. The b-quark jets are required to have p(T)(jet) > 15 GeVand vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 1.5. The ratio of differential production cross sections for gamma + 2 b-jets to gamma + b-jet as a function of p(T)(gamma) is also presented. The results are based on the proton-antiproton collision data at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measured cross sections and their ratios are compared to the next- to- leading order perturbative QCD calculations as well as predictions based on the k(T)- factorization approach and those from the sherpa and pythia Monte Carlo event generators
