Finding the Higgs Boson through Supersymmetry
The study of displaced vertices containing two b--jets may provide a double
discovery at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC): we show how it may not only
reveal evidence for supersymmetry, but also provide a way to uncover the Higgs
boson necessary in the formulation of the electroweak theory in a large region
of the parameter space. We quantify this explicitly using the simplest minimal
supergravity model with bilinear breaking of R-parity, which accounts for the
observed pattern of neutrino masses and mixings seen in neutrino oscillation
experiments.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures. Final version to appear at PRD. Discussion and

Probing Neutrino Oscillations in Supersymmetric Models at the Large Hadron Collider
The lightest supersymmetric particle may decay with branching ratios that
correlate with neutrino oscillation parameters. In this case the CERN Large
Hadron Collider (LHC) has the potential to probe the atmospheric neutrino
mixing angle with sensitivity competitive to its low-energy determination by
underground experiments. Under realistic detection assumptions, we identify the
necessary conditions for the experiments at CERN's LHC to probe the simplest
scenario for neutrino masses induced by minimal supergravity with bilinear R
parity violation.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures. To appear in Physical Review
Searching supersymmetry at the LHCb with displaced vertices
Supersymmetric theories with bilinear R-parity violation can give rise to the
observed neutrino masses and mixings. One important feature of such models is
that the lightest supersymmetric particle might have a sufficiently large
lifetime to give rise to detached vertices. Working in the framework of
supergravity models we analyze the potential of the LHCb experiment to search
for supersymmetric models exhibiting bilinear R-parity violation. We show that
the LHCb experiment can probe a large fraction of the
being able to explore gluino masses up to 1.3 TeV. The LHCb discover potential
for this kind of models is similar to the ATLAS and CMS ones in the low
luminosity phase of operation of the LHC.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures. Extended version that appears at PRD. The
discussion is enlarged but the results remain the sam
Probing neutrino mass with multilepton production at the Tevatron in the simplest R-parity violation model
We analyze the production of multileptons in the simplest supergravity model
with bilinear violation of R parity at the Fermilab Tevatron. Despite the small
R-parity violating couplings needed to generate the neutrino masses indicated
by current atmospheric neutrino data, the lightest supersymmetric particle is
unstable and can decay inside the detector. This leads to a phenomenology quite
distinct from that of the R-parity conserving scenario. We quantify by how much
the supersymmetric multilepton signals differ from the R-parity conserving
expectations, displaying our results in the plane. We
show that the presence of bilinear R-parity violating interactions enhances the
supersymmetric multilepton signals over most of the parameter space, specially
at moderate and large .Comment: 26 pages, 23 figures. Revised version with some results corrected and

On classical q-deformations of integrable sigma-models
JHEP is an open-access journal funded by SCOAP3 and licensed under CC BY 4.0A procedure is developed for constructing deformations of integrable σ-models which are themselves classically integrable. When applied to the principal chiral model on any compact Lie group F, one recovers the Yang-Baxter σ-model introduced a few years ago by C. Klimčík. In the case of the symmetric space σ-model on F/G we obtain a new one-parameter family of integrable σ-models. The actions of these models correspond to a deformation of the target space geometry and include a torsion term. An interesting feature of the construction is the q-deformation of the symmetry corresponding to left multiplication in the original models, which becomes replaced by a classical q-deformed Poisson-Hopf algebra. Another noteworthy aspect of the deformation in the coset σ-model case is that it interpolates between a compact and a non-compact symmetric space. This is exemplified in the case of the SU(2)/U(1) coset σ-model which interpolates all the way to the SU(1, 1)/U(1) coset σ-modelPeer reviewedFinal Published versio
The HMW effect in Noncommutative Quantum Mechanics
The HMW effect in non-commutative quantum mechanics is studied. By solving
the Dirac equations on non-commutative (NC) space and non-commutative phase
space, we obtain topological HMW phase on NC space and NC phase space
respectively, where the additional terms related to the space-space and
momentum-momentum non-commutativity are given explicitly.Comment: 8 Latex page
Searching for R-Parity Violation at Run-II of the Tevatron
We present an outlook for possible discovery of supersymmetry with broken
R-parity at Run II of the Tevatron. We first present a review of the literature
and an update of the experimental bounds. In turn we then discuss the following
processes: 1. Resonant slepton production followed by R-parity violating decay,
(a) via and (b) via . 2. How to distinguish resonant slepton
production from or production. 3. Resonant slepton production
followed by the decay to neutralino LSP, which decays via . 4. Resonant
stop production followed by the decay to a chargino, which cascades to the
neutralino LSP. 5. Gluino pair production followed by the cascade decay to
charm squarks which decay directly via . 6. Squark pair production
followed by the cascade decay to the neutralino LSP which decays via
. 7. MSSM pair production followed by the cascade decay to the LSP
which decays (a) via , (b) via , and (c) via ,
respectively. 8. Top quark and top squark decays in spontaneous R-parity
violation.Comment: 39 pages, 51 figures, LaTex, reqires aipproc2.sty and axodraw.sty. To

Superinsulator Phase of Two-Dimensional Superconductors
Using path-integral Quantum Monte Carlo we study the low-temperature phase
diagram of a two-dimensional superconductor within a phenomenological model,
where vortices have a finite mass and move in a dissipative environment modeled
by a Caldeira-Leggett term. The quantum vortex liquid at high magnetic fields
exhibits superfluidity and thus corresponds to a {\em superinsulating} phase
which is characterized by a nonlinear voltage-current law for an infinite
system in the absence of pinning. This superinsulating phase is shifted to
higher magnetic fields in the presence of dissipation.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. Lett. (Oktober 1998
Signal and Backgrounds for the Single Production of Scalar and Vector Leptoquarks at the LHC
We perform a detailed analysis of the potentiality of the CERN Large Hadron
Collider to study the single production of leptoquarks via
leptoquark , with generated by the splitting of photons
radiated by the protons. Working with the most general
invariant effective lagrangian for scalar and vector leptoquarks, we analyze in
detail the leptoquark signals and backgrounds that lead to a final state
containing an and a hard jet with approximately balanced transverse
momenta. Our results indicate that the LHC will be able to discover leptoquarks
with masses up to 2--3 TeV, depending on their type, for Yukawa couplings of
the order of the electromagnetic one.Comment: Revtex, 23 pages, 11 postscript files. Uses axodraw.sty (included)
