    La harinosidad, tanto en manzana como en melocotón, es una característica sobre la cual el consumidor muestra un completo desconocimiento, como se demuestra en la encuesta realizada a un total de 768 consumidores de Madrid; en la muestra se seleccionaron distintos barrios de la ciudad, varios lugares de compra y personas de diferente sexo y edad para ver cómo influyen estos factores en su comportamiento y en sus preferencias. En general, se observa que el comportamiento del consumidor está guiado por las características sensoriales de una determinada fruta y por su capacidad para identificar visualmente determinadas variedades que gustativamente han resultado de su agrado

    Draft genome sequence for virulent and avirulent strains of Xanthomonas arboricola isolated from Prunus spp. in Spain

    Xanthomonas arboricola is a species in genus Xanthomonas which is mainly comprised of plant pathogens. Among the members of this taxon, X. arboricola pv. pruni, the causal agent of bacterial spot disease of stone fruits and almond, is distributed worldwide although it is considered a quarantine pathogen in the European Union. Herein, we report the draft genome sequence, the classification, the annotation and the sequence analyses of a virulent strain, IVIA 2626.1, and an avirulent strain, CITA 44, of X. arboricola associated with Prunus spp. The draft genome sequence of IVIA 2626.1 consists of 5, 027, 671 bp, 4, 720 protein coding genes and 50 RNA encoding genes. The draft genome sequence of strain CITA 44 consists of 4, 760, 482 bp, 4, 250 protein coding genes and 56 RNA coding genes. Initial comparative analyses reveals differences in the presence of structural and regulatory components of the type IV pilus, the type III secretion system, the type III effectors as well as variations in the number of the type IV secretion systems. The genome sequence data for these strains will facilitate the development of molecular diagnostics protocols that differentiate virulent and avirulent strains. In addition, comparative genome analysis will provide insights into the plant-pathogen interaction during the bacterial spot disease process

    We present a microscopic derivation of the hydrodynamic theory of the Quantum Hall smectic or stripe phase of a two-dimensional electron gas in a large magnetic field. The effective action of the low energy is derived here from a microscopic picture by integrating out high energy excitations with a scale of the order the cyclotron energy.The remaining low-energy theory can be expressed in terms of two canonically conjugate sets of degrees of freedom: the displacement field, that describes the fluctuations of the shapes of the stripes, and the local charge fluctuations on each stripe.Comment: 20 pages, RevTex, 3 figures, second part of cond-mat/0105448 New and improved Introduction.     Habilidades comunicativas dentro de la familia: una medida imprescincible contra el acoso escolar en La Rioja

    En función del análisis de diferentes estudios que resaltan el importante papel del afecto y el diálogo intrafamiliar contra el mal comportamiento de los hijos en sociedad, nos planteamos qué opina la comunidad educativa respecto a esto y qué medidas proponen para erradicar el acoso escolar. Para obtener esta información, se ha llevado a cabo un estudio en la comunidad de La Rioja, a través de un cuestionario dirigido a 348 alumnos de ESO; entrevistas a treinta profesores, dos grupos de discusión entre padres, y otros dos entre alumnos de diferentes lugares y tipos de centro. La comunidad educativa riojana confi rma que un ambiente familiar carente de afecto y diálogo infl uye signifi cativa y positivamente en el comportamiento violento de los alumnos en la escuela, proponiendo como medida principal la formación de padres en habilidades comunicativas, opiniones menos claras en chicos y alumnos más jóvenes. Otras medidas propuestas son: que los padres pasen más tiempo con sus hijos, les aporten más afecto y una educación basada en valores, además de vigilar el consumo de violencia en los medios audiovisuales, denunciando más y estrechando su relación con la comunidad educativa y social para recibir ayuda. Based on the analysis of different studies that highlight the important role of affect and intrafamily dialogue against the misbehavior of children in society, we plan to know the opinion of the educational community about this and which ones measures they propose to eradicate bullying. To obtain this information, we carried out a study in the community of La Rioja, using a questionnaire in a sample of 348 middle-school students. Also, thirty teachers were interviewed; two focus groups with parents and two with students from different places and types of school. Rioja educational community confi rms that a family atmosphere devoid of affection and dialogue infl uences signifi cantly and positively in the violent behavior of students in the school, proposing as the primary measure parent training in communication skills, less clear opinions in boys and younger students. Other proposed measures are: that parents to spend more time with their children, provide them more affection and values-based education, in addition to monitor the consumption of violence in the media, denouncing more and by making close their relationship with the educational and social community to get help.

    Xanthomonas prunicola sp. nov., a novel pathogen that affects nectarine (Prunus persica var. nectarina) trees

    Three isolates obtained from symptomatic nectarine trees (Prunus persica var. nectarina) cultivated in Murcia, Spain, which showed yellow and mucoid colonies similar to Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni, were negative after serological and real-time PCR analyses for this pathogen. For that reason, these isolates were characterized following a polyphasic approach that included both phenotypic and genomic methods. By sequence analysis of the 16S rRNA gene, these novel strains were identified as members of the genus Xanthomonas, and by multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) they were clustered together in a distinct group that showed similarity values below 95 % with the rest of the species of this genus. Whole-genome comparisons of the average nucleotide identity (ANI) of genomes of the strains showed less than 91 % average nucleotide identity with all other species of the genus Xanthomonas. Additionally, phenotypic characterization based on API 20 NE, API 50 CH and BIOLOG tests differentiated the strains from the species of the genus Xanthomonas described previously. Moreover, the three strains were confirmed to be pathogenic on peach (Prunus persica), causing necrotic lesions on leaves. On the basis of these results, the novel strains represent a novel species of the genus Xanthomonas, for which the name Xanthomonas prunicola is proposed.     Predicting future cancer burden in the United States by artificial neural networks

    Aims: To capture the complex relationships between risk factors and cancer incidences in the US and predict future cancer burden. Materials & methods: Two artificial neural network (ANN) algorithms were adopted: a multilayer feed-forward network (MLFFNN) and a nonlinear autoregressive network with eXogenous inputs (NARX). Data on the incidence of the four most common tumors (breast, colorectal, lung and prostate) from 1992 to 2016 (available from National Cancer Institute online datasets) were used for training and validation, and data until 2050 were predicted. Results: The rapid decreasing trend of prostate cancer incidence started in 2010 will continue until 2018–2019; it will then slow down and reach a plateau after 2050, with several differences among ethnicities. The incidence of breast cancer will reach a plateau in 2030, whereas colorectal cancer incidence will reach a minimum value of 35 per 100,000 in 2030. As for lung cancer, the incidence will decrease from 50 per 100,000 (2017) to 31 per 100,000 in 2030 and 26 per 100,000 in 2050. Conclusion: This up-to-date prediction of cancer burden in the US could be a crucial resource for planning and evaluation of cancer-control programs

    Electromagnetic characteristics of bilayer quantum Hall systems in the presence of interlayer coherence and tunneling

    The electromagnetic characteristics of bilayer quantum Hall systems in the presence of interlayer coherence and tunneling are studied by means of a pseudospin-texture effective theory and an algebraic framework of the single-mode approximation, with emphasis on clarifying the nature of the low-lying neutral collective mode responsible for interlayer tunneling phenomena. A long-wavelength effective theory, consisting of the collective mode as well as the cyclotron modes, is constructed. It is seen explicitly from the electromagnetic response that gauge invariance is kept exact, this implying, in particular, the absence of the Meissner effect in bilayer systems. Special emphasis is placed on exploring the advantage of looking into quantum Hall systems through their response; in particular, subtleties inherent to the standard Chern-Simons theories are critically examined.Comment: 9 pages, Revtex, to appear in Phys.     Effective DBHF Method for Asymmetric Nuclear Matter and Finite Nuclei

    A new decomposition of the Dirac structure of nucleon self-energies in the Dirac Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach is adopted to investigate the equation of state for asymmetric nuclear matter. The effective coupling constants of σ\sigma , ω\omega , δ\delta and ρ\rho mesons with a density dependence in the relativistic mean field approach are deduced by reproducing the nucleon self-energy resulting from the DBHF at each density for symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter. With these couplings the properties of finite nuclei are investigated. The agreement of charge radii and binding energies of finite nuclei with the experimental data are improved simultaneously in comparison with the projection method. It seems that the properties of finite nuclei are sensitive to the scheme used for the DBHF self-energy extraction. We may conclude that the properties of the asymmetric nuclear matter and finite nuclei could be well described by the new decomposition approach of the G matrix.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figure

    Radiative Corrections to Neutralino and Chargino Masses in the Minimal Supersymmetric Model

    We determine the neutralino and chargino masses in the MSSM at one-loop. We perform a Feynman diagram calculation in the on-shell renormalization scheme, including quark/squark and lepton/slepton loops. We find generically the corrections are of order 6%. For a 20 GeV neutralino the corrections can be larger than 20%. The corrections change the region of μ, M2, tanβ\mu,\ M_2,\ \tan\beta parameter space which is ruled out by LEP data.     Serum melatonin levels during the first seven days of severe sepsis diagnosis are associated with sepsis severity and mortality

    Objective: Higher serum melatonin levels have previously been found in patients with severe sepsis who died within 30 days of diagnosis than in survivors. The objective of our study were to determine whether serum melatonin levels during the first seven days of severe sepsis diagnosis could be associated with sepsis severity and mortality. Methods: Multicentre study in eight Spanish Intensive Care Units which enrolled 308 patients with severe sepsis. We determined serum levels of melatonin, malondialdehyde (as biomarker of lipid peroxidation) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha at days 1, 4 and 8 of severe sepsis diagnosis. The study's primary endpoint was 30-day mortality. Results: A total of 103 patients had died and 205 survived at 30 days of severe sepsis diagnosis, with the non-survivors presenting higher serum melatonin levels at days 1 (p<0.001), 4 (p<0.001) and 8 (p<0.001) of severe sepsis diagnosis than the survivor patient group. The multiple logistic regression analysis found that serum melatonin levels at days 1, 4 and 8 of severe sepsis diagnosis (p<0.001, p = 0.01 and p = 0.001, respectively) were associated with mortality adjusted for age, serum lactic acid, SOFA score and diabetes mellitus. Conclusions: The novel and more interesting findings of our study were that serum melatonin levels during the first seven days of severe sepsis diagnosis are associated with sepsis severity and mortality.
