The Hyperfine Spin Splittings In Heavy Quarkonia

    Get PDF
The hyperfine spin splittings in heavy quarkonia are studied using the recently developed renormalization group improved spin-spin potential which is independent of the scale parameter ÎŒ\mu. The calculated energy difference between the J/ψJ/\psi and the ηc\eta_c fits the experimental data well, while the predicted energy difference ΔMp\Delta M_p between the center of the gravity of 13P0,1,21^3P_{0,1,2} states and the 11P11^1P_1 state of charmonium has the correct sign but is somewhat larger than the experimental data. This is not surprising since there are several other contributions to ΔMp\Delta M_p, which we discuss, that are of comparable size (∌1\sim 1 MeV) that should be included, before precise agreement with the data can be expected. The mass differences of the ψâ€Č−ηcâ€Č\psi'-\eta_c', ΄(1S)−ηb\Upsilon(1S)-\eta_b, ΄(2S)−ηbâ€Č\Upsilon(2S)-\eta_b', and Bc∗−BcB_c^*-B_c are also predicted.Comment: 17 page

Interindividual clinical variability in the course of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is vast. We report that at least 101 of 987 patients with life-threatening coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia had neutralizing immunoglobulin G (IgG) autoantibodies (auto-Abs) against interferon-w (IFN-w) (13 patients), against the 13 types of IFN-a (36), or against both (52) at the onset of critical disease; a few also had auto-Abs against the other three type I IFNs. The auto-Abs neutralize the ability of the corresponding type I IFNs to block SARS-CoV-2 infection in vitro. These auto-Abs were not found in 663 individuals with asymptomatic or mild SARS-CoV-2 infection and were present in only 4 of 1227 healthy individuals. Patients with auto-Abs were aged 25 to 87 years and 95 of the 101 were men. A B cell autoimmune phenocopy of inborn errors of type I IFN immunity accounts for life-threatening COVID-19 pneumonia in at least 2.6% of women and 12.5% of men

PAST VARIATIONS OF WATER LEVEL OF JEZERO PALEOLAKE

International audienceThe western fan of Jezero crater displays features interpreted as fluvial and deltaic sedimentary rocks from orbital data [1,2]. Images obtained using the SuperCam Remote Micro-Imager (RMI) and the Mastcam-Z camera provide in-situ observations of Jezero crater’s western fan in various locations along the Perseverance traverse. In the last two years, the rover analyzed the fan front from a distance using these imaging tools and at close range using its entire payload. Then, in 2023, the Perseverance rover explored the top of the western Jezero sedimentary fan. Here we show that fluvial topsets and deltaic foresets dominate sedimentary rocks. Determining the boundary between fluvial and prodelta deposits enables us to draw the evolution of the lake level through time

CONSTRUCTING GEOLOGICAL CROSS-SECTIONS TO CONSTRAIN THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL STRATIGRAPHIC ARCHITECTURE OF THE JEZERO DELTA FRONT

International audienceThe NASA Mars2020 rover Perseverance has been traversing series that represent the transition from crater floor lithologies to deposits of the Jezero western delta since Sol 422 of rover operations [1]. During that time, the mission has explored the exposed stratigraphic succession at the delta front, named the Shenandoah formation [2]. Here we analyse Mastcam-Z mosaics and 3D data products derived from Planetary Robotics processing and viewing tools (PRoViP and PRo3D [3]) to map the 3D geometry of key stratigraphic boundaries and document the 3D stratigraphic architecture at the sub-km- to m-scale within the Shenandoah formation
