Athlete’s muscle function during Dragon Boat practice requires activation of a complex kinetic chain (composed of a great number of muscles of all sizes, starting from dorsal muscles, abdominal muscles and muscles of the limbs). The Dragon Boat competition includes, during the sporting year, races with length spanning from about 40 seconds (200 meters) up to 10 minutes (2000 meters) and beyond, in specific distances (long distances)
Ergometer and Dragon Boat
Dragon Boat is an activity that requires a participation of a large amount of muscles. The muscle groups involved are in order of involvement: the dorsal and abdominal muscles, biceps and triceps in the upper limbs and femoral quadriceps and gastrocnemius in the lower limbs. The athlete’s muscle building is based on strengthening exercises with weight lifting that involves both upper and lower limbs, with a particular attention to the heart. The paddle position, the rotation and the twisting of the body is taken into account. Racing and boat outings are integrated into the preparation. However the paddling technique exercises have the limitation of being unilateral and therefore with the theoretical possibility of asymmetric muscle development on the side chose for paddling

Transport Properties of a Chain of Anharmonic Oscillators with random flip of velocities
We consider the stationary states of a chain of anharmonic coupled
oscillators, whose deterministic hamiltonian dynamics is perturbed by random
independent sign change of the velocities (a random mechanism that conserve
energy). The extremities are coupled to thermostats at different temperature
and and subject to constant forces and . If
the forces differ the center of mass of the system will
move of a speed inducing a tension gradient inside the system. Our aim is
to see the influence of the tension gradient on the thermal conductivity. We
investigate the entropy production properties of the stationary states, and we
prove the existence of the Onsager matrix defined by Green-kubo formulas
(linear response). We also prove some explicit bounds on the thermal

The Contribution of Fermi Gamma-Ray Pulsars to the local Flux of Cosmic-Ray Electrons and Positrons
We analyze the contribution of gamma-ray pulsars from the first Fermi-Large
Area Telescope (LAT) catalogue to the local flux of cosmic-ray electrons and
positrons (e+e-). We present new distance estimates for all Fermi gamma-ray
pulsars, based on the measured gamma-ray flux and pulse shape. We then estimate
the contribution of gamma-ray pulsars to the local e+e- flux, in the context of
a simple model for the pulsar e+e- emission. We find that 10 of the Fermi
pulsars potentially contribute significantly to the measured e+e- flux in the
energy range between 100 GeV and 1 TeV. Of the 10 pulsars, 2 are old EGRET
gamma-ray pulsars, 2 pulsars were discovered with radio ephemerides, and 6 were
discovered with the Fermi pulsar blind-search campaign. We argue that known
radio pulsars fall in regions of parameter space where the e+e- contribution is
predicted to be typically much smaller than from those regions where Fermi-LAT
pulsars exist. However, comparing the Fermi gamma-ray flux sensitivity to the
regions of pulsar parameter space where a significant e+e- contribution is
predicted, we find that a few known radio pulsars that have not yet been
detected by Fermi can also significantly contribute to the local e+e- flux if
(i) they are closer than 2 kpc, and if (ii) they have a characteristic age on

Ponderomotive entangling of atomic motions
We propose the use of ponderomotive forces to entangle the motions of
different atoms. Two situations are analyzed: one where the atoms belong to the
same optical cavity and interact with the same radiation field mode; the other
where each atom is placed in own optical cavity and the output field of one

Continuous variable entanglement and quantum state teleportation between optical and macroscopic vibrational modes through radiation pressure
We study an isolated, perfectly reflecting, mirror illuminated by an intense
laser pulse. We show that the resulting radiation pressure efficiently
entangles a mirror vibrational mode with the two reflected optical sideband
modes of the incident carrier beam. The entanglement of the resulting
three-mode state is studied in detail and it is shown to be robust against the
mirror mode temperature. We then show how this continuous variable entanglement
can be profitably used to teleport an unknown quantum state of an optical mode
onto the vibrational mode of the mirror.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figure
Scaling Reliably: Improving the Scalability of the Erlang Distributed Actor Platform
Distributed actor languages are an effective means of constructing scalable reliable systems, and the Erlang programming language has a well-established and influential model. While the Erlang model conceptually provides reliable scalability, it has some inherent scalability limits and these force developers to depart from the model at scale. This article establishes the scalability limits of Erlang systems and reports the work of the EU RELEASE project to improve the scalability and understandability of the Erlang reliable distributed actor model.
We systematically study the scalability limits of Erlang and then address the issues at the virtual machine, language, and tool levels. More specifically: (1) We have evolved the Erlang virtual machine so that it can work effectively in large-scale single-host multicore and NUMA architectures. We have made important changes and architectural improvements to the widely used Erlang/OTP release. (2) We have designed and implemented Scalable Distributed (SD) Erlang libraries to address language-level scalability issues and provided and validated a set of semantics for the new language constructs. (3) To make large Erlang systems easier to deploy, monitor, and debug, we have developed and made open source releases of five complementary tools, some specific to SD Erlang.
Throughout the article we use two case studies to investigate the capabilities of our new technologies and tools: a distributed hash table based Orbit calculation and Ant Colony Optimisation (ACO). Chaos Monkey experiments show that two versions of ACO survive random process failure and hence that SD Erlang preserves the Erlang reliability model. While we report measurements on a range of NUMA and cluster architectures, the key scalability experiments are conducted on the Athos cluster with 256 hosts (6,144 cores). Even for programs with no global recovery data to maintain, SD Erlang partitions the network to reduce network traffic and hence improves performance of the Orbit and ACO benchmarks above 80 hosts. ACO measurements show that maintaining global recovery data dramatically limits scalability; however, scalability is recovered by partitioning the recovery data. We exceed the established scalability limits of distributed Erlang, and do not reach the limits of SD Erlang for these benchmarks at this scal
