Aharonov-Bohm Effect on Noncommutative Plane: A Coherent State Approach
We apply the coherent state approach to study Aharonov-Bohm effect in the
field theory context. We verify that, contrarily to the commutative result, the
scattering amplitude is ultraviolet finite. However, we have logarithmic
singularities as the noncommutative parameter tends to zero. Thus, the
inclusion of a quartic self-interaction for the scalar field is necessary to

Hidrogenionic potential (pH) of the attractant, trap density and control threshold for Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: tephritidae) on Hamlin oranges in São Paulo central region, Brazil
This study evaluated the effect of initial pH values of 4.5, 6.5 and 8.5 of the attractant
(protein bait) Milhocina® and borax (sodium borate) in the feld, on the capture of fruit flies in McPhail
traps, using 1, 2, 4 and 8 traps per hectare, in order to estimate control thresholds in a Hamlin orange grove
in the central region of the state of São Paulo. The most abundant fruit fly species was Ceratitis capitata,
comprising almost 99% of the fruit flies captured, of which 80% were females. The largest captures of C.
capitata were found in traps baited with Milhocina® and borax at pH 8.5. Captures per trap for the four
densities were similar, indicating that the population can be estimated with one trap per hectare in areas
with high populations. It was found positive relationships between captures of C. capitata and the number
of Hamlin oranges damaged, 2 and 3 weeks after capture. It was obtained equations that correlate captures
and damage levels which can be used to estimate control thresholds. The average loss caused in Hamlin
orange fruits by C. capitata was 2.5 tons per hectare or 7.5% of production.Esta pesquisa teve como objetivos: avaliar o efeito do pH inicial, 4.5; 6.5 e 8.5, do atrativo

Nitrogen Use Efficiency and Crop Yield in Four Successive Crops Following Application of Biochar and Zeolites
Two soil amendments, biochar and zeolites, were evaluated in their potential for increasing crop productivity and agro-system sustainability. The effect of biochar and zeolites, in combination with four nitrogen (N) rates [0 (N0), 50 (N50), 100 (N100), and 200 (N200) kg ha−1], on crop yield, N use efficiency, and soil properties was evaluated in a cropping system of irrigated forage maize (Zea mays L.) grown in summer and oats (Avena sativa L.) grown in winter as a catch crop. Biochar increased soil organic carbon (C), pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and extractable phosphorus (P), but strongly reduced N recovery in the set of the four cropping cycles. In biochar-amended plots, N50 had a negative apparent N recovery (− 21%), indicating that less N was recovered by the plants than in the N0 treatment without biochar. Biochar reduced maize dry matter (DM) yield by 15.6% in comparison to the untreated control, indicating N immobilization by biochar at low N rates (N0 and N50). Zeolites did not influence crop productivity or soil properties, except for the increase in extractable K, probably the result of its initial K content. N application to maize significantly increased the productivity of both crops, including that of the non-fertilized oats. Under the conditions of this experiment, biochar and zeolites did not prove to be useful soil amendments to increase crop DM yield in the short-term. The use of biochar increased soil organic C, which associated to a high N rate can enable the dual objective of maintaining productivity and the sustainability of the agro-system. Prokaryotic diversity and dynamics in a full-scale municipal solid waste anaerobic reactor from start-up to steady-state conditions
AbstractThe prokaryotic diversity of an anaerobic reactor for the treatment of municipal solid waste was investigated over the course of 2years with the use of 16S rDNA-targeted molecular approaches. The fermentative Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes predominated, and Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Tenericutes and the candidate division WWE1 were also identified. Methane production was dominated by the hydrogenotrophic Methanomicrobiales (Methanoculleus sp.) and their syntrophic association with acetate-utilizing and propionate-oxidizing bacteria. qPCR demonstrated the predominance of the hydrogenotrophic over aceticlastic Methanosarcinaceae (Methanosarcina sp. and Methanimicrococcus sp.), and Methanosaetaceae (Methanosaeta sp.) were measured in low numbers in the reactor. According to the FISH and CARD-FISH analyses, Bacteria and Archaea accounted for 85% and 15% of the cells, respectively. Different cell counts for these domains were obtained by qPCR versus FISH analyses. Heme modulates smooth muscle cell proliferation and migration via NADPH oxidase: A counter-regulatory role for heme oxygenase system
AbstractAccumulation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) in response to inflammatory stimuli is a key event in atherogenesis, which commonly occurs in sinuous vessels with turbulent blood flow what leads to hemolysis and consequent free heme accumulation, a known pro-oxidant and pro-inflammatory molecule.In this work, we investigated the effects of free heme on VSMC, and the molecular mechanisms underlying this process.Free heme induces a concentration-dependent migration and proliferation of VSMC which depends on the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) derived from NADPH oxidase (NADPHox) activity. Additionally, heme activates redox-sensitive proliferation-related signaling routes, such as Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase (MAPK) and NF-κB, and induces Heme Oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression. NADPHox-dependent proliferative effect of heme seems to be endogenously modulated by HO since the pretreatment of VSMC with HO inhibitors potentiates heme-induced proliferation and, in parallel, increases ROS production. These effects were no longer observed in the presence of heme metabolites, carbon monoxide and biliverdin.The data indicate that VSMC proliferation induced by heme is endogenously modulated by a critical counter-regulatory crosstalk between NADPHox and HO systems
PA-Tree: A Parametric Indexing Scheme for Spatio-temporal Trajectories
Abstract. Many new applications involving moving objects require the collec-tion and querying of trajectory data, so efficient indexing methods are needed to support complex spatio-temporal queries on such data. Current work in this domain has used MBRs to approximate trajectories, which fail to capture some basic properties of trajectories, including smoothness and lack of internal area. This mismatch leads to poor pruning when such indices are used. In this work, we revisit the issue of using parametric space indexing for historical trajectory data. We approximate a sequence of movement functions with single continuous polynomial. Since trajectories tend to be smooth, our approximations work well and yield much finer approximation quality than MBRs. We present the PA-tree, a parametric index that uses this new approximation method. Experiments show that PA-tree construction costs are orders of magnitude lower than that of com-peting methods. Further, for spatio-temporal range queries, MBR-based methods require 20%–60 % more I/O than PA-trees with clustered indicies, and 300%– 400 % more I/O than PA-trees with non-clustered indicies.
The Ideal Climate Latitude: Orbit and Axial Precession Influence in Ancient Migration
It is widely understood that ice ages are periods when ancient humans constantly migrated mainly due to changes in climate. This article proposes that the combination of the precession of the Earth’s axis and the eccentricity of the Earth’s orbit around the world creates an ideal climate latitude, which has major impacts on migration patterns. During the ice ages the orbit of the Earth’s axis is considerably elliptic and the difference in distance from the Earth to the Sun during the perihelion and aphelion reached as much as 12%, which resulted in a difference of irradiation of 27%. The precession of the Earth’s axis changes the latitude where the Sun is perpendicular to the Sun during the aphelion and perihelion in a cycle of 19 to 26 thousand years. Ancient civilizations prevailed or purposely migrated to latitudes with the most favorable climate, where the aphelion happened during the summer and the perihelion happened during the winter. This article shows that major ancient migration patterns follow with some precision this ideal climate latitude
Consistency analysis of a nonbirefringent Lorentz-violating planar model
In this work analyze the physical consistency of a nonbirefringent
Lorentz-violating planar model via the analysis of the pole structure of its
Feynman propagators. The nonbirefringent planar model, obtained from the
dimensional reduction of the CPT-even gauge sector of the standard model
extension, is composed of a gauge and a scalar fields, being affected by
Lorentz-violating (LIV) coefficients encoded in the symmetric tensor
. The propagator of the gauge field is explicitly evaluated
and expressed in terms of linear independent symmetric tensors, presenting only
one physical mode. The same holds for the scalar propagator. A consistency
analysis is performed based on the poles of the propagators. The isotropic
parity-even sector is stable, causal and unitary mode for .
On the other hand, the anisotropic sector is stable and unitary but in general
noncausal. Finally, it is shown that this planar model interacting with a

Use, access, and equity in health care services in São Paulo, Brazil
The study analyzed how socioeconomic factors are associated with seeking, access, use, and quality of health care services in São Paulo, Brazil. Data were obtained from two household health surveys in São Paulo. We used logistic regression to analyze associations between socioeconomic factors and seeking, access, use, and quality of health care services. Access to health care services was high among those who sought it (94.91% in 2003 and 94.98% in 2008). The proportion of access to and use of health care services did not change significantly from 2003 to 2008. Use of services in the public sector was more frequent in lower socioeconomic groups. There were some socioeconomic differences in seeking health care and resolution of health problems. The study showed almost universal access to health care services, but the results suggest problems in quality of services and differences in quality experienced by lower socioeconomic groups, who mostly use the Brazilian Unified National Health System (SUS)
