Information and Communication Technology in Education - Current Trends

    No full text
The paper is aimed at current approaches toward using of information and communication technology in education. Firstly, nowadays usage of computers in education is introduced on the basis of an overview and survey of the researches presented on the recent conference Computers in Education organized by the Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education. Last research in the following areas is discussed here: computer-supported personalized and collaborative learning, seamless learning, level of attention and learning efficiency, learning analytics, application of innovative educational technologies in STEM education, and online game-based learning in school education. Despite the geographical orientation many issues may be inspirational for scholars from western countries. On the other hand, from research papers presented by researchers from Asia-Pacific region it is evident that they have been focusing on very similar topics in education as scientists in western countries do. Secondly, some observation concerning usage of information and communication technology in Egypt education as well as recent research works examined within the doctoral study program information and communication technology in Education provided by the University of Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, are presented in the paper in the light of the mentioned survey

Magnetic resonance imaging anatomy of the normal equine larynx and pharynx

The purpose of the present study was to describe normal magnetic resonance (MR) imaging anatomy of the equine larynx and pharynx and to present the optimal protocol, sequences, and possible limitations of this examination technique. Using a 0.3T unit, the laryngeal and pharyngeal regions was imaged in two horses. The protocol consisted of sagittal and transverse T2-weighted (T2w) fast spin echo, transverse T1-weighted (T1w) spin echo, and dorsal high-resolution T1w gradient echo (both pre- and postcontrast enhancement) sequences. Euthanasia was performed at the end of the imaging procedure. Macroscopic anatomy of the cadaver sections were compared with the MR images in transverse, midsagittal, and parasagittal planes. There was good differentiation of anatomic structures, including soft tissues. The laryngeal cartilages, hyoid apparatus, and upper airway muscle groups with their attachments could be clearly identified. However, it was not always possible to delineate individual muscles in each plane. Most useful were both T2w and T1w transverse sequences. Intravenous application of contrast medium was helpful to identify blood vessels. The MR images corresponded with the macroscopic anatomy of cadaver sections

Ocular angiosarcoma in a pony - MRI and histopathological appearance

Ocular angiosarcomas are an infrequent aetiology of exophthalmus in the horse. In the case presented here, a pony was referred with a history of supraorbital swelling, exophthalmus and conjunctivitis of the right eye. Radiographic and ultrasonographic examinations were used for diagnosis; however, the exact definition of the retrobulbar changes could only be made by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI shows anatomic and physiological detail in both the osseous and soft tissue structures. Only 3 sequences were used in this case: a transverse T2-weighted and a dorsal high resolution, T1-weighted gradient echo with multiplanar reconstruction capability pre- and post contrast application. This case report suggests that MRI should be used more frequently in the diagnosis of head tumours in horses

First Reported Isolation of Neisseria canis from a Deep Facial Wound Infection in a Dogâ–ż

Neisseria canis was isolated in pure culture from a mandibular abscess in a dog. Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration was used to obtain a sample from the abscess. Conventional bacteriological examination techniques followed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing from pure subculture and construction of a phylogenetic tree verified the isolate as N. canis. 16S rRNA sequence analysis revealed that a broader phylogenetic platform is needed in the part of the phylogenetic tree where the canine pathogenic N. canis isolate is located. The canine pathogenic isolate was found to be resistant to cephalexin and trimethoprim
