Approaching place and space as craftsperson: on the dialogue between theory and practice
Purpose This paper aims to contribute to this Special Issue about alternative and critical marketing theory on space and place by discussing its link with practice. More generally, this paper intends to suggest that more effective links between theory and practice can result into more meaningful conceptual research in business administration and marketing. Design/methodology/approach This is a reflexive introspective essay that relates the author's personal experience to the recent literature on the dialogue between theory and practice within general marketing research and marketing scholarship on place and space. Findings After recognising that different modes of knowledge creation exist, some gateways between theory and practice are identified, as part of a future agenda that could accompany scholars in improving their engagement with society. These gateways include dissemination strategies; teaching and public engagement; and formats of "engaged" research that comprise action research and collaboration with non-academic actors. Research limitations/implications The alternative and critical marketing theory on space and place comprises different specific domains, some of which appear to be closer to practice than others. Because of the author's background, place branding and destination marketing are granted preferential attention. Originality/value The figure of the craftsman depicted by Sennet (2008) is identified as a source of inspiration for marketing scholars interested in space and place. The metaphor of the craftsperson could be useful for business and marketing scholar alike while reflecting on their roles and positionalities
Stellar structures in the outer regions of M33
We present Subaru/Suprime-Cam deep V and I imaging of seven fields in the
outer regions of M33. Our aim is to search for stellar structures corresponding
to extended HI clouds found in a recent 21-cm survey of the galaxy. Three
fields probe a large HI complex to the southeastern (SE) side of the galaxy. An
additional three fields cover the northwestern (NW) side of the galaxy along
the HI warp. A final target field was chosen further north, at a projected
distance of approximately 25 kpc, to study part of the large stellar plume
recently discovered around M33. We analyse the stellar population at R > 10 kpc
by means of V, I colour magnitude diagrams reaching the red clump. Evolved
stellar populations are found in all fields out to 120' (~ 30 kpc), while a
diffuse population of young stars (~ 200 Myr) is detected out to a
galactocentric radius of 15 kpc. The mean metallicity in the southern fields
remains approximately constant at [M/H] = -0.7 beyond the edge of the optical
disc, from 40' out to 80'. Along the northern fields probing the outer \hi
disc, we also find a metallicity of [M/H] = -0.7 between 35' and 70' from the
centre, which decreases to [M/H] = -1.0 at larger angular radii out to 120'. In
the northernmost field, outside the disc extent, the stellar population of the
large stellar feature possibly related to a M33-M31 interaction is on average
more metal-poor ([M/H] = -1.3) and older (> 6 Gyr). An exponential disc with a
large scale-length (~ 7 kpc) fits well the average distribution of stars
detected in both the SE and NW regions from a galactocentric distance of 11 kpc
out to 30 kpc. The stellar distribution at large radii is disturbed and,
although there is no clear correlation between the stellar substructures and
the location of the HI clouds, this gives evidence for tidal interaction or

The SWOT of Damocles: challenges in shaping inclusive place marketing audits
This paper extends existing research on inclusive place marketing by advancing methodological reflections on how to rework research instruments toward greater inclusivity. Our methodological reflections intend to encourage the dialogue between place marketing theory and practice, as well as reflections on the role that academic researchers take on while co-creating territorial development and promotion projects with a variety of non-academic stakeholders. This is done in the form of a self-reflective account of the multi-disciplinary tourism research team engaged in "RECOLOR" (Reviving and EnhanCing artwOrks and Landscapes Of the adRiatic). This is an INTERREG project funded by the European Commission that aims to enhance the tourist potential of secondary urban and natural resources in Croatia and Italy, with a view to generating sustainable development. Academics and consultants can replicate the research methods suggested in this paper when conducting participatory audits in other destinations
Magnetoelectrochemistry and asymmetric electrochemical reactions
Magnetoelectrochemistry is a branch of electrochemistry where magnetic fields play a vital role in the oxidation and reduction process of the molecules. When it comes to spin-dependent electrochemistry (SDE), becomes a new paradigm. This work presents electrochemical response during the “chiral imprinting” on working electrodes and the effects of potentiostatic and galvanostatic methods. We explore the use of the SDE concept, which is implemented for chiral-ferromagnetic (CFM) hybrid working electrodes, and we compare various electrochemical parameters affecting the quality of deposition. We electrochemically co-deposited nickel (Ni) with a chiral compound (tartaric acid) in its enantiopure forms (L and D), which allows us to obtain a chiral co-deposited nickel-tartaric acid (Ni-LTA or Ni-DTA) working electrode
The HI distribution in the outskirts of M33 with the ALFALFA survey
Spiral galaxies appear to be dynamical systems whose disks are still forming
at the current epoch and which continue to accrete mass. The presence of
extraplanar gas in spirals indicates that galactic halos can contain at least
part of the material needed to fuel the star formation activity in their disks.
Here we present the analysis of the ALFALFA survey data in the region of M33
aimed at searching high velocity clouds around this Local Group galaxy. We find
a varied population of HI clouds with masses ranging between 4 x 10^4 and few
times 10^6 M_sun. We also detect an extended HI complex at anomalous
velocities, whose extragalactic nature cannot be firmly established. We
estimate that the total amount of neutral hydrogen mass associated to these

Pulsed Current Effect on the Hard Anodizing of an AlSi10Mg Aluminum Alloy Obtained via Additive Manufacturing
The hard anodizing treatments of cast Al-Si alloys are notoriously difficult. Indeed, their microstructural features hinder the growth of a uniform, compact, and defect-free anodic oxide. In this paper, AlSi10Mg samples, produced via Gravity Casting (GC) and Additive Manufacturing, i.e., Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF), were hard anodized in a sulfuric acid bath, in order to verify how the particular microstructure obtained via L-PBF affects the thickness, hardness, compactness, and defectiveness of the anodic oxide. Moreover, for the first time, Pulsed Direct Current (PDC) procedures were used to perform the hard anodizing treatments on additively manufactured AlSi10Mg alloy. Several combinations of temperature and electrical parameters, i.e., current density, frequency, and Duty Cycle, were tested. The anodized samples were characterized through optical microscopy analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis, and accelerated corrosion tests, i.e., Potentiodynamic Polarization (POL) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The PDC procedures allowed improvement of the compromise between evenness, compactness, and defectiveness. Among the attempted PDC procedures, a specific combination of electrical parameters and temperature allowed the best results to be obtained, i.e., the highest hardness and the lowest volumetric expansion values without compromising the oxide quality rating and the corrosion resistance behavior. However, none of the attempted PCD strategies allowed the hardness values obtained on samples produced via GC to be reached
Challenges in delivering a brand promise - focusing on municipal healthcare organisations
Purpose To investigate how healthcare professionals understand a new organisational brand and examine the ideas discussed in relation to it within health care organisations. Design/methodology/approach The research is based on a discursive approach that facilitates understanding how the informants perceived a new organisation brand and how that might shape their activities in the enterprise. Findings The study identified four distinct interpretative repertoires: the organisational brand as an economic solution, the magic wand, the factory, and a servant to the customer. The new brand was understood in terms of economic and business-like functions marked by external branding and its signs (logos etc.). The brand is not communicated to patients or colleagues, and the factory metaphor is applied to work practices. Hence, several potential dilemmas arise concerning the brand promise, customer expectations, economic and efficiency gains and the professional values of employees. Research limitations/implications Adoption of private-sector practices in semi-public or public-sector organisations is common. This study focuses on how private-sector ideas diffuse into the organisations and how they are translated within them. Practical implications We suggest a stronger emphasis on internal branding as a reconciliation to enhance legitimacy, high-quality customer service and staff wellbeing. Originality/value Theoretically, the unique contribution of the study is drawing upon health care branding, dilemma theory and discursive institutionalism in its interpretation. Consequently, it demonstrates how ideas about the brand and public health care are translated and communicated in the examined discourses and how those ideas reconstruct understanding and change behaviour within the organisations
Surface behaviour of the pairing gap in a slab of nuclear matter
The surface behaviour of the pairing gap previously studied for semi-infinite
nuclear matter is analyzed in the slab geometry. The gap-shape function is
calculated in two cases: (a) pairing with the Gogny force in a hard-wall
potential and (b) pairing with the separable Paris interaction in a Saxon-Woods
mean-field potential. It is shown that the surface features are preserved in
the case of slab geometry, being almost independent of the width of the slab.
It is also demonstrated that the surface enhancement is strengthened as the
absolute value of chemical potential decreases which simulates the
