Evaluating the Effect of Interpersonal Responding on Emotional Sensitivity and Reactivity in Borderline Personality Disorder

Major theoretical models of the development and maintenance of borderline personality disorder (BPD) contend that difficulties with affect regulation is the key feature of BPD. These models suggest that chronic problems with affect regulation develop through a transaction between individual vulnerabilities, including emotionalsensitivity and reactivity, and invalidating interpersonal environments. In addition, these models suggest the proximal interpersonal factors may influence emotional sensitivity and reactivity in BPD. However, the research on emotional responding in BPD has not directly examined the impact of interpersonal responses on emotional sensitivity or reactivity. The primary aim of the current study was to examine the effect of validating and invalidating experimental conditions on emotional sensitivity and emotional reactivity with a sample of individuals with a range of borderline personality disorder (BPD) features. A sample of 130 individuals with a range of BPD features were randomly assigned to receiving either validating or invalidating interpersonal feedbackabout their emotional experiences while completing a stressful mental arithmetic task. Participants reported their emotional arousal throughout the task, and then completed a morphing facial affect task, which provided a behavioral measure of emotionalsensitivity. Results indicated that although BPD features did not predict emotional sensitivity within the validation condition, participants with greater BPD features had longer response latencies (slower responses) for identifying emotions within theinvalidation condition. Individuals with greater BPD features also demonstrated greater emotional reactivity in both the validating and invalidation conditions. Overall, this study provides general support for Linehan's biopsychosocial theory of BPD. In addition, emotional sensitivity in BPD does not appear to be a static feature of BPD, butrather appears to be context dependent, with invalidating (but not validating) interpersonal feedback resulting in delayed recognition of emotional stimuli

    Hadronic molecules: meson-baryon hybrids

The existence of hadronic molecular-type hybrids consisting of a baryon and a meson is argued. Long-range interactions due to one-pion exchange is shown to be strong enough to produce a loosely bound state. Specific features of a molecular hybrid are discussed.Comment: 7 pages in RevTeX plus 1 figure (available upon request

Six Districts Begin the Principal Pipeline Initiative

This first report of an ongoing evaluation of The Wallace Foundation's Principal Pipeline Initiative describes the six participating school districts' plans and activities during the first year of their grants. The evaluation, conducted by Policy Studies Associates and the RAND Corporation, isintended to inform policy makers and practitioners about the process of carrying out new policies and practices for school leadership and about the results of investments in the Principal Pipeline Initiative. This report is based on collection and analysis of qualitative data, including the districts' proposals, work plans, and progress reports and semi-structured interviews in spring 2012 with 91 administrators employed by districts and their partner institutions. Leaders in all districts report wanting to enlarge their pools of strong applicants for principal positions and to identify and cultivate leadership talent as early as possible in educators' careers.Districts are actively working on allrequired pipeline components: (1) with stakeholder participation, they have developed standards and identified competencies for principals, which they plan to use to guide principal training, hiring, evaluation, and support; (2) they are initiating or strengthening partnerships with university training programs; (3) for hiring, they have standard performance tasks and are developing systems to capture data on candidates' experience; (4) they have diagnostic evaluation tools and are working to build the capacity of principals' supervisors and mentors to support principals' skill development. In addition, all are also bolstering district-run training programs for graduates of university training programs who aspire to become principals

Examines the results to date of a Wallace-supported project to help principals delegate some administrative and managerial tasks to school administration managers and spend more time interacting with teachers, students and others on instructional matters

Canning Corn Production: Cost and Net Return in Northern Utah 1962

    Get PDF
Sweet corn for canning purposes has been grown commercially in Utah for more than 40 years. For two decades before 1940, the acreage varied between 400 and 800 acres. It increased from 600 acres in 1942 to 6,300 in 1949 and was down to 4,470 acres in 1959. In 1959, there were five counties in Utah where farmers grew more than 100 acres of canning corn. This accounted for 98 percent of all canning corn reported. Of these, Utah County had 2,468 acres or 55 percent of the total, Cache had 1,059 acres or 23 percent, Box Elder had 483 acres or 11 percent, Davis 217 acres or 5 percent, and Salt Lake had 161 acres or 4 percent

Legal Protection of Hospital Patients in the Corona Virus Pandemic Period

This study aims to explain the legal protection for patients during the Covid-19 pandemic and the protection mechanism for patients as consumers. This research used doctrinal research. Basically, health development involves all aspects of life, physical, mental and socio-economic. In the growth of health development so far, there has been a change in orientation, both value and thought, especially regarding effort to solve problem in the health sector which are influenced by politic, economic, socio-cultural, defence and security as well as science and technology. The change of orientation will affect the implementation process of health development. Health development, which is basically the responsibility of the state, becomes very important because the private sector also participates in creating a product in the health sector. This society is generally referred to as consumer. Indonesia and all over the world are currently in a pandemic of the Covid-19 virus, where the virus is spreading so fast. Not yet found anti-virus against this virus, the only way is that everyone is obliged to maintain immunity in the body. But it is very unfair for other patients, currently the focus of medical personnel and hospital is to deal with the Covid-19 outbreak, so that the rights of other patients cannot be fulfilled

The purpose of this study was to determine the efforts of Catholic Religious Education teachers in developing the affective abilities of students at RK Deli Murni Bandar Baru Junior High School. The informants in this study were PAK teachers, school principals, peer teachers and students. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with observation techniques, interviews and documentation. The findings of this study are the teacher presenting interesting material, looking neat while teaching, motivating students while teaching, building students' self-confidence by involving students taking turns leading prayers and singing when studying Catholicism. Students focus their attention on the teacher when explaining learning material

Structure and dynamics of a model glass: influence of long-range forces

We vary the amplitude of the long-range Coulomb forces within a classical potential describing a model silica glass and study the consequences on the structure and dynamics of the glass, via molecular dynamics simulations. This model allows us to follow the variation of specific features such as the First Sharp Diffraction Peak and the Boson Peak in a system going continuously from a fragile (no Coulomb forces) to a strong (with Coulomb forces) glass. In particular we show that the characteristic features of a strong glass (existence of medium range order, bell-shaped ring size distribution, sharp Boson peak) appear as soon as tetrahedral units are formed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures.
