    Pilot Solar-PV Rural Electrification Scheme for Isalu Community in Ota Nigeria

    This paper discusses an overview and field experience of a pilot rural electrification project which took place at Isalu Community, Ota, Nigeria. This community is energy insufficient and rely mainly on self-generated power from mini – petrol engine and medium – diesel powered generators. They are not connected to the National grid and this may not happen in two decades from now. The first stage of the pilot project involved accessing the feasibility of the project and performing a load audit. This community wide initiative saw to the phasing out of kerosene lanterns, incandescent light bulbs and other fossil based energy sources. The community was enlightened about the different alternative (renewable) sources available to them. Furthermore, the community was introduced to different solar products that outperformed the currently exploited energy sources economically and environmentally.     This paper explores different payment models for Renewable Energy (RE) schemes that have been implemented in different rural, urban and peri - urban areas in Sub-Saharan Africa. We discuss their mode of operations, successes accrued and challenges encountered. We give reasons why some have failed while others still exist and are growing stronger. The paper proffers solutions to the challenges and provides alternate models that could be adopted. The importance of providing sustainable payment models is that it would allow for the wide spread adoption/acceptability of renewable energy technologies and also ensure that RE service providers are well advised on the advantages involved in engaging with the rural poor, who are low income earners and at the bottom of the income pyramid

    The Effect of Power factor Improvement on Switching Transients: A Case of FUMMAN Agricultural Products Industry Plc.

    Industrial loads are mostly inductive and hence operate at low power factor. Several methods including the installation of capacitor banks are available for improving power factor in order to reduce the kilovolt ampere (kVA) demand of the load and power loss from the power supply system. However, literatures have shown that improvement of power factor has effect on switching transients which is dangerous for industrial loads and operating personnel. In this work, we investigated the effect of improving the power factor of a power system beyond 0.8 (lagging) on switching transient levels using FUMMAN industry power network as a case study. A power factor measuring tool was modelled using the mathematical relation between power factor, reactive power and active power. The modelled equations were simulated Matlab/Simulink software (Version 7.9.0.529 ‘R2009b’). The characteristics of the system under study namely root mean square (r.m.s) voltage, peak steady state voltage, peak transient voltage and kVA demand were measured during the simulation with and without parallel connection of capacitor bank across the system. The result from the analysis showed that FUMMAN industry power network was operating at a lagging power factor of 0.8 with r.m.s voltage of 412.1 V, peak steady state voltage of 582.8 V, peak transient voltage of 701.9 V and kVA demand of 1878 kVA without the capacitor bank. However, when a capacitor bank was connected across the system and the power factor increased from 0.8 (lagging) to 0.9098 (lagging), optimised performance of the system was obtained with a capacitor bank size of 440 kVar. At lagging power factor of 0.9098, the kVA demand of the system was 1650 kVA, r.m.s voltage was 415.5 V and peak transient voltage was 749.5 V. The analysis therefore showed that increasing power factor beyond 0.8 (lagging) using capacitor banks though improves the r.m.s voltage and reduces the power loss but invariably leads to increase in switching transients which is undesired for optimised system performance

    Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah memberikan pemahaman kepada guru matematika bagaimana pemanfaatan teknologi yang benar dalam pembelajaran matematika serta keterampilan menggunakan software pembelajaran dinamis seperti GeoGebra dalam pembelajaran matematika. Jumlah guru yang terlibat dalam kegiatan ini sebanyak 30 guru. Metode kegiatan ini adalah ceramah, diskusi, tanyajawab, dan latihan mandiri. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini akan dilaksanakan dalam beberapa tahapan, yaitu 1) penyampaian materi oleh narasumber mengenai pembelajaran abad 21, pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran matematika, serta penggunaan GeoGebra sebagai media pembelajaran visual; 2) latihan mandiri penggunaan GeoGebra, 3) pengisian angket pemahaman tentang pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran, serta 4) rencana tindak lanjut. Selama kegiatan, para guru antusias mengikuti materi, berdiskusi, dan mencoba menggunakan GeoGebra. Pemanfaatan teknologi khususnya penggunaan GeoGebra dalam pembelajaran matematika merupakan sesuatu yang baru bagi guru sehingga sangat membantu mereka mengembangkan pembelajaran yang inovatif sesuai tuntutan pembelajaran saat ini. Berdasarkan angket pemahaman pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran, hasil pelatihan dipahami dengan baik oleh para guru dalam kategori sangat baik

    Pengembangan Model Self Massage Untuk Penyembuhan Migraine.

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan model Self massage yang aman, mudah, dan nyaman untuk penyembuhan migraine ditandai dengan menurunnya tingkat nyeri kepala dan tingkat mual. Self massage merupakan gabungan dari teknik massage dan accupressure. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan dengan langkah-langkah sebagai berikut: (1) analisis kajian lapangan, (2) studi literatur dan kajian teori, (3) draft self massage, (4) validasi ahli, (5) revisi draft self massage, (6) uji coba skala kecil, (7) revisi produk, (8) ujicoba skala besar, (9) revisi produk, (10) uji efektivitas, dan (11) produk akhir. Uji coba skala kecil dan besar menggunakan metode observasi dan wawancara dan uji keefektivan menggunakan metode eksperimen one-group pretest-posttest design. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada Klinik Massage Terapi Plaza Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini diikuti oleh 5 orang subjek uji coba skala kecil dan 15 orang subjek uji coba skala besar dan uji keefektivan. Model Self Massage ini dilakukan pada tanggal 18 – 23 Maret 2019 sebanyak 2 kali sehari setiap hari selama 7 hari. Data dianalisis menggunakan olah data nonparametrik, yaitu wilcoxon dengan bantuan komputer program SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa telah dikembangkan model self massage yang terdiri atas 12 manipulasi dan berdurasi 5 menit, yang tervalidasi dan teruji keamanan, kemudahan serta kenyamanannya untuk menyembuhkan migraine. Model Self Massage terdiri dari 7 penekanan pada titik accupressure yaitu 1) Titik Bailao, 2) Titik Tian Zhu, 3) Belakang kedua telinga yaitu Titik Tian Zhu, 4) Titik Shuai Gu, 5) Titik Zan Zhu, 6) Titik Yin Tang 7)Titik He Gu. Manipulasi massage terdiri dari dua manipulasi yaitu 1) Manipulasi Stroking, 2) Manipulasi Friction. Model self massage yang dilakukan 2x sehari selama 7 hari terbukti dapat menurunkan nyeri kepala dan mual secara signifikan dengan efektivitas penurunan nyeri kepala 83,05% dan penurunan tingkat mual 73,29%

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan matematika dalam aktivitas berladang masyarakat di kecamatan Tobu serta menyusun perangkat pembelajaran sesuai konsep matematika yang ditemukan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Desa Tobu, Kecamatan Tobu dengan informan sebanyak 4 orang. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan berupa penelitian kualitatif eksploratif dengan desain etnografi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat etnomatematika dalam aktivitas berladang masyarakat di kecamatan Tobu berupa aktivitas menghitung, mengukur, melokalisir, merancang dan menjelaskan. Konsep matematika yang terkait dengan aktivitas berladang masyarakat di kecamatan Tobu meliputi penjumlahan berulang atau perkalian, geometri, sistem koordinat, pola bilangan, transformasi geometri, perbandingan, barisan aritmatika dan himpunan. Dengan demikian, berbagai konsep matematika yang terdapat dalam aktivitas berladang dapat dijadikan sebagai referensi dalam pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran matematika di sekolah

    Clinical Outcomes of Intraoperative Radiation Therapy for Extremity Sarcomas

    Purpose. Radiation of extremity lesions, a key component of limb-sparing therapy, presents particular challenges, with significant risks of toxicities. We sought to explore the efficacy of intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) in the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities. Patients. Between 1995 and 2001, 17 patients received IORT for soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities. Indications for IORT included recurrent tumors in a previously radiated field or tumors adjacent to critical structures. Results. Gross total resections were achieved in all 17 patients. Two patients experienced locoregional relapses, six patients recurred at metastatic sites, and one patient died without recurrence. Thirty-six month estimates for locoregional control, disease free survival, and overall survival were 86%, 50%, and 78%, respectively. IORT was extremely well tolerated, with no toxicities referable to IORT. Conclusions. For patients with soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities, IORT used as a boost to EBRT provides excellent local control, with limited acute toxicities
