Vortices in Superfluid Fermi Gases through the BEC to BCS Crossover
We have analyzed a single vortex at T=0 in a 3D superfluid atomic Fermi gas
across a Feshbach resonance. On the BCS side, the order parameter varies on two
scales: and the coherence length , while only variation on
the scale of is seen away from the BCS limit. The circulating current has
a peak value which is a non-monotonic function of
implying a maximum critical velocity at unitarity. The number of
fermionic bound states in the core decreases as we move from the BCS to BEC
regime. Remarkably, a bound state branch persists even on the BEC side
reflecting the composite nature of bosonic molecules.Comment: 4 Pages, 4 Figure
Absence of Three-Loop Four-Point Divergences in N=4 Supergravity
We compute the coefficient of the potential three-loop divergence in pure N=4
supergravity and show that it vanishes, contrary to expectations from symmetry
arguments. The recently uncovered duality between color and kinematics is used
to greatly streamline the calculation. We comment on all-loop cancellations
hinting at further surprises awaiting discovery at higher loops.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures; v2 added references and minor correction
Musical Platonism: A Challenge to Levinson
Musical Platonism’s central thesis is that a musical work is a sound structure and nothing more. Given this, three consequences follow. First, musical works cannot be created. Second, if two musical works have the same sound structure, they are the same musical work. Third, a musical work’s instrumentation is not a necessary feature of its identity. Jerrold Levinson denies these three claims. He argues that musical works are created; that even if two musical works have the same sound structure, they are nevertheless two different musical works; and that a musical work’s instrumentation is a necessary feature of its identity. In this essay, I challenge Levinson’s views, and I make the case for a more feasible alternative
Comparison of chloroquine, sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine, mefloquine and mefloquine-artesunate for the treatment of falciparum malaria in Kachin State, North Myanmar.
Multi-drug resistant falciparum malaria is widespread in Asia. In Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam the national protocols have changed largely to artesunate combined treatment regimens but elsewhere in East and South Asia chloroquine (CQ) and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) are still widely recommended by national malaria control programmes. In Kachin State, northern Myanmar, an area of low seasonal malaria transmission, the efficacy of CQ (25 mg base/kg) and SP (1.25/25 mg/kg), the nationally recommended treatments at the time, were compared with mefloquine alone (M; 15 mg base/kg) and mefloquine combined with artesunate (MA; 15:4 mg/kg). An open randomized controlled trial enrolled 316 patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria, stratified prospectively into three age-groups. Early treatment failures (ETF) occurred in 41% (32/78) of CQ treated patients and in 24% of patients treated with SP (18/75). In young children the ETF rates were 87% after CQ and 35% after SP. Four children (two CQ, two SP) developed symptoms of cerebral malaria within 3 days after treatment. By day 42, failure rates (uncorrected for reinfections) had increased to 79% for CQ and 81% for SP. ETF rates were 2.5% after treatment with M and 3.9% after treatment with MA (P > 0.2). Overall uncorrected treatment failure rates at day 42 following M and MA were 23% and 21%, respectively. Chloroquine and SP are completely ineffective for the treatment of falciparum malaria in northern Myanmar. Mefloquine treatment is much more effective, but three day combination regimens with artesunate will be needed for optimum efficacy and protection against resistance

Co-doping red-emitting Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ into yellow-emitting phosphor-packaging for enhancing the optical properties of the 8500 K remote-phosphor packaging wleds
In the last decades, WLEDs attract more and more consideration in both academic and industrial purposes because of its advantages such as fast response time, environment friendliness, small size, long lifetime, and high efficiency. In this research, by doping the red-emitting Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ phosphor particles into yellow-emitting YAG:Ce phosphor-packaging, a new recommendation for enhancing the optical properties (color uniformity, color rendering index, and lumen output) of the 8500 K remote-phosphor packaging WLEDs is presented, investigated, and demonstrated. By using Mat Lab and Light Tools software based on Mie Theory, the obtained results show that the optical properties of the 8500 K remote-phosphor packaging WLEDs significantly depended on Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ concentration. The results have provided a potential practical recommendation for manufacturing remote-phosphor W-LEDs.Web of Science1341034102
Analisis Perkembangan Riset Akuntansi Keperilakuan Studi Pada Jurnal Behavioral Research in Accounting (1998-2003)
This research aims to analyze growth direction of research in journal of BRIA period 1998-2003. Growth analysis is done at topic / article content, research method, and research subject used by writer of article of BRIA 1998-2003. Topic /article content is classified using taxonomy of Birnberg and Shield (1989) which have been modified by Meyer and Rigsby (2001). Technics of descriptive analysis were used to analyze data. The results show that the most frequent topics written in BRIA as long as 1998-2003 is Accounting Information Processing, Auditing, and Managerial Control. Most research method used are experiment (29 articles) and survey/questionaire/interview (21 articles). Type of subject most often used is accountant /auditor and student S-1. As a whole, this result not far differ from result of research of Meyer and Rigsby (2001). Thereby, until 14 year publication of BRIA, there are not growth mean in the case of topic, method, and used research subject. This results show that we still have opportunities of doing new research in order to development of behavioral accountancy science.
Remarks on QCD 4 with fundamental and adjoint matter
We study 4-dimensional SU(N) gauge theory with one adjoint Weyl fermion and fundamental matter — either bosonic or fermionic. Symmetries, their ’t Hooft anomalies, and the Vafa-Witten-Weingarten theorems strongly constrain the possible bulk phases. The first part of the paper is dedicated to a single fundamental fermion or boson. As long as the adjoint Weyl fermion is massless, this theory always possesses a ℤ2Nχ chiral symmetry, which breaks spontaneously, supporting N vacua and domain walls between them for a generic mass of the matter fields. We argue, however, that the domain walls generically undergo a phase transition, and we establish the corresponding 3d gauge theories on the walls. The rest of the paper is dedicated to studying the multi-flavor fundamental matter. Here, the phases crucially depend on the ratio of the number of colors and the number of fundamental flavors. We also discuss the limiting scenarios of heavy adjoint and fundamentals, which align neatly with our current understanding of QCD and N = 1 super Yang-Mills theory
