Village Library Empowerment in an Effort to Increase Reading Interest in Children in Aman Damai Village, Sirapit District Langkat Regency

The low interest in children to read books is a problem that must be overcome by village apparatus in Aman Damai Village of Sirapit District.  In addition, the management of the library is still very simple so that it is not able to attract the community, especially children to come, besides the lack of facilities and infrastructure. The purpose of providing solutions offered is to improve the administration and management system of village libraries in an effort to increase reading interest in children. This community service is addressed to the village apparatus as library manager and children. Methods used in achieving these goals include socialization to children and parents about the importance of reading interest in children and training in improving village apparatus skills in managing village libraries, providing books of various types such as textbooks to comic books for children. This community service is also done to train village apparatus in managing library through the provision of codes and numbers on books, drafting, to the lending system that can be done by children. The conclusion of this community service is that nowadays children visit the library more often because the available books can attract children’s interest to read. Moreover, the management and administration of library has become more organized than before

Empowering Youth of Productive Age in the Midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic Through Entrepreneurial Skills in Limau Mungkur Village, Binjai City

The problem faced is the number of productive age youth who cannot increase their income because the Covid-19 pandemic makes limited mobility of the community. In addition, a lot of time spent at home without doing productive activities so that entrepreneurship activities through online media become one of the solutions to increase income. The purpose of this community service is to provide business skills to young people of productive age during the Covid-19 Pandemic through online media. This community service is addressed to young people of productive age in Limau Mungkur Village of Binjai City. The method used in achieving these goals is by socializing and lecturing about business management through Facebook and Instagram and practicing making dimsum and tumpeng mini. This skill training is used to make online sales to social media users and is used to create a strategy to sell dimsum and nasi tumpeng mini to be purchased by the community.  Through empowerment carried out, young people of productive age become very enthusiastic to do entrepreneurial activities by utilizing social media such as Facebook and Instagram

We document that macroeconomic announcements affect VIX significantly and slope at a lesser extent. The government shows its seriousness in developing the creative economy sector to support the economy. Fashion as a part of the creative economy today can not only be worked on by people who live in urban areas but also people who live in villages, especially with the even distribution and growth of information technology in the country. People who live in the village do not always have to be farmers or workers in the agrarian sector, but also have to have job options that can be a lifestyle to continue to show their existence even though they are from the village, especially young people who choose to stay in the village. Through this service, we will provide screen printing and digital printing training, as well as provide all information about the potential and opportunities of this kind of business to young people in Bahorok Village, Bahorok District, Langkat Regency. By understanding printing techniques digitally, it is hoped that it will be able to facilitate printing in larger quantities, and of course will provide better economic benefits as well. We will also involve speakers and business actors who have succeeded in this screen printing business so that participants can directly deal with business actors and get more in-depth experience and training. In the future, further service is needed which will be focused on better marketing strategies to continue to support this sustainable and effective service activity

Empowerment of women households group of poor families to increase income through training to make dimsum in Padang Bulan Village, Medan

Community service activities are carried out through training on how to make dim sum which is carried out for mothers from poor family groups located in Padang Bulan Village, Medan City. Based on data and observations that mothers from poor groups who do not have a job other than taking care of their family, the purpose of this service is to provide training to mothers from poor family groups to make decent dim sum for sale so that they can increase family income. The method in this activity is carried out by socializing and giving lectures to training participants as well as doing hands-on practice on how to make dough for dim sum ingredients and form dim sum properly to sell to consumers. Through the dim sum-making training activities, mothers from poor family groups will become skilled and have the expertise to make and sell dim sum to the community which in turn will increase family income

Community service activities aim at increasing the competitiveness of fostered partners in dealing with market developments. The potential of developing frozen food UMKM products is still very open because it is very popular among many people in the City of Medan. Royal Food also experiences the same thing as most UKMKs in Medan, which generally have limited human resource quality of education. The workforce in UKMK is dominated by workers with low education and do not have good financial management and the low utilization of technology. This community service activity was carried out over a period of six months. Activities carried out in the form of socialization and counseling to partners, training in business development and marketing, safe and hygienic production practices and designing more attractive packaging, carrying out production and marketing to partner monitoring and evaluation. After getting a touch of good design, proper management, modernization of production equipment, attractive promotional media, UMKM Royal Food is able to experience business development with increasingly high sales and more competitive products

Generalised Decision Level Ensemble Method for Classifying Multi-media Data

In recent decades, multimedia data have been commonly generated and used in various domains, such as in healthcare and social media due to their ability of capturing rich information. But as they are unstructured and separated, how to fuse and integrate multimedia datasets and then learn from them eectively have been a main challenge to machine learning. We present a novel generalised decision level ensemble method (GDLEM) that combines the multimedia datasets at decision level. After extracting features from each of multimedia datasets separately, the method trains models independently on each media dataset and then employs a generalised selection function to choose the appropriate models to construct a heterogeneous ensemble. The selection function is dened as a weighted combination of two criteria: the accuracy of individual models and the diversity among the models. The framework is tested on multimedia data and compared with other heterogeneous ensembles. The results show that the GDLEM is more exible and eective

Growing Out of the Experience: How Subjective Experiences of Effort and Learning Influence the Use of Interleaved Practice

In higher education, many students make poor learning strategy decisions. This, in part, results from the counterintuitive nature of effective learning strategies: they enhance long-term learning but also cost high initial effort and appear to not improve learning (immediately). This mixed-method study investigated how students make learning strategy decisions in category learning, and whether students can be supported to make effective strategy decisions through a metacognitive prompt, designed to support accurate monitoring of effort and learning. Participants (N = 150) studied painting styles through blocked and interleaved practice, rated their perceived effort and perceived learning across time, and chose between either blocked or interleaved practice. Half of the participants (N = 74) were provided with a metacognitive prompt that showed them how their subjective experiences per strategy changed across time and required them to relate these experiences to the efficacy of learning strategies. Results indicated that subjective experiences with interleaved practice improved across time: students’ perceived learning increased as their perceived effort decreased. Mediation analysis revealed that the increased feeling of learning increased the likelihood to select interleaved practice. The percentage of students who chose interleaved practice increased from 13 to 40%. Students’ learning strategy decisions, however, did not benefit from the metacognitive prompt. Qualitative results revealed that students initially had inaccurate beliefs about the efficacy of learning strategies, but on-task experiences overrode the influence of prior beliefs in learning strategy decisions. This study suggests that repeated monitoring of effort and learning have the potential to improve the use of interleaved practice
