    A numerical model for the three dimensional thermal analysis of rocket thrust chambers and nozzles has been developed. The input to the model consists of the composition of the fuel/oxidant mixture and flow rates, chamber pressure, coolant entrance temperature and pressure, dimensions of the engine, materials and the number of nodes in different parts of the engine. The model allows for temperature variation in three dimensions: axial, radial and circumferential directions and by implementing an iterative scheme, it provides nodal temperature distribution, rates of heat transfer, hot gas and coolant thermal and transport properties

    MACHe3 (MAtrix of Cells of superfluid He3) is a project of a new detector for direct Dark Matter (DM) search. A cell of superfluid He3 has been developed and the idea of using a large number of such cells in a high granularity detector is proposed.This contribution presents, after a brief description of the superfluid He3 cell, the simulation of the response of different matrix configurations allowing to define an optimum design as a function of the number of cells and the volume of each cell.     Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for poor-prognosis systemic sclerosis

    Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) following intensive immune suppression has been used in >2000 patients with severe autoimmune diseases for 18 years, including 300 with SSc. The concept is to profoundly reduce the bulk of auto-aggressive immune competent cells and then rescue the patient's ablated haematopoiesis via an autologous HSCT. An early analysis of uncontrolled phase I/II data suggested that approximately one-third of these achieved a substantial improvement, with a relapse rate of 25% and a treatment-related mortality ranging from 6% to 23% across different studies. These early results led to three prospective randomized controlled trials, two of which are completed, confirming that HSCT shows clear advantages over conventional immunosuppression, but with significant toxicity. In some patients, sustained complete normalization of skin changes, reversal of positive autoantibody status and withdrawal of immunosuppressive medication were observed. These results attest to the profound effects of HSC

    Due to the fact that urbanization, as a dominating global development process, has been reached a dramatic measure, series of questions have been arisen about its environmental impacts. The urbanization soaring rate, which its impetus has been provided by unprecedented population growth, has had serious of direct consequences such as inconceivable and unbalanced consumption of natural resources and global warming rate acceleration. In such a dramatic circumstances how urban planning and governance could contribute to climate mitigation and emissions reduction? How urban vulnerability and urban resilience should be managed? Again, how urban transformation should be propelled in order to address these challenges. To demonstrate that sustainability and environmental efficiency is an urban issue this paper shows the application of IMM® (Integrated Modification Methodology) on Shahrak-e Golestan, a newly settled neighborhood located in District 22 of Tehran. Forming this neighborhood for accommodating a part of city’s growing population is a well representative of the common developing manners in Tehran, therefore the transformed model resulted from the study could be considered as a model for further developments of the other districts

    AbstractHip and groin pain is a common condition in professional athletes and may result from an acute injury or from chronic, repetitive trauma. It is responsible for significant morbidity, which leads to time away from training and competition, and may result in a career-ending injury. The anatomic and biomechanical causes for hip and groin injuries are among the most complex and controversial in the musculoskeletal system. This makes clinical differentiation and subsequent management difficult because of the considerable overlap of symptoms and signs. This review article will evaluate several pathologic conditions of the hip and groin in athletes, divided into acute (secondary to single event) and chronic (secondary to altered biomechanical load or repetitive microtrauma) injuries, with an emphasis on imaging in the diagnosis of these injuries. Appropriate use of imaging along with clinical findings can allow accurate diagnosis and subsequent appropriate management of these patients to ultimately allow return to athletic activity

    A fuzzy logic-based video subtitle and caption coloring system

    An approach has been proposed for automatic adaptive subtitle coloring using fuzzy logic-based algorithm. This system changes the color of the video subtitle/caption to "pleasant" color according to color harmony and the visual perception of the image background colors. In the fuzzy analyzer unit, using RGB histograms of background image, the R, G, and B values for the color of the subtitle/caption are computed using fixed fuzzy IF-THEN rules fully driven from the color harmony theories to satisfy complementary color and subtitle-background color harmony conditions. A real-time hardware structure has been proposed for implementation of the front-end processing unit as well as the fuzzy analyzer unit

    Long-term follow-up of residual masses after chemotherapy in patients with non-seminomatous germ cell tumours

    This retrospective study was undertaken to determine the outcome of patients with non-seminomatous germ cell tumour who achieved a serological complete response but who had residual radiologic abnormalities upon completion of primary platinum-based chemotherapy. This was an analysis of 76 consecutive patients treated at Mount Vernon Hospital between 1983 and 1997. The patients were placed into two groups based upon whether they had surgical resection (surgery group, 48 patients) or observation (observation group, 28 patients) of residual radiologic masses on completion of initial chemotherapy (to enter the surgery group, complete surgical resection must have been achieved). The primary end-points were progression-free and overall survival. The percentage of patients alive with median follow-up 66 months was 90% for the surgery group and 80% for the observation group (P= 0.53, not significant). The percentage of patients continuously disease-free was 70% in the surgery group and 80% in the observation group (P= 0.31, not significant). In the small sub-group of patients with differentiated teratoma (TD) in the primary lesion who were observed, there was no excess risk of relapse or death. Patients who achieve a serological complete response after primary chemotherapy, but are left with ≤ 2 cm radiological masses that are not cystic and have responded, can be safely observed with diligent follow-up. © 2000 Cancer ResearchCampaig
