Purpose: To prepare some 2-amino 4- (7-substituted/unsubstitutedcoumarin-3-yl)-6-(chlorosubstitute dphenyl) pyrimidines as antimicrobial agents. Methods: Some 2-amino-4-(7-substituted/unsubstitutedcoumarin-3-yl)-6-(chlorosubstitutedphenyl) pyrimidines were prepared by reacting 3-chlorosubstitutedphenyl-1-(7-substituted/unsubstituted coumarin 3-yl)prop-2-ene-1-ones with guanidine carbonate. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were elucidated by Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds were investigated for their antimicrobial activity against four bacteria and five fungi by serial plate dilution method using ofloxacin and ketoconazole as reference antimicrobial drugs, respectively, and their minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined. Results: Compounds 1 (p < 0.0001), 2 (p < 0.0001), 6 (p < 0.0001) and 8 (p < 0.0001) were the most active antibacterial agents among the synthesized compounds compared to control and standard agents. Structure-activity relationship revealed that substitution of chlorine atoms at 2- and 6- positions of the phenyl ring are critical for antibacterial activity in the case of dichlorophenyl derivatives, while for monochlorophenyl derivatives, the positions 2 and 4 of the phenyl ring were critical for antibacterial activity. None of the compounds exhibited comparable antifungal activity to the standard antifungal drug, ketoconazole, even at high concentrations. Conclusion: It is evident that the synthesized compounds are relatively very active antibacterial agents but are weak antifungal agents. However, these compounds need further evaluation of their antibacterial activity against other bacterial strains to ascertain their broad spectrum antibacterial activity. Keywords: Pyrimidine, Coumarin, Antibacterial, Antifungal, Structure-activity Relationshi

Background: Mucormycosis is an angio-invasive disease caused by fungi prevalence of which in India is approximately 0.14 cases per 1000 population. The incidence of mucor in COVID 19 patients has increased to greater extent. Probable cause of which is increased serum ferritin among these patients and Iron is required by virtually all microbial pathogens for growth and virulence. Hence, we had conducted a study to estimate serum iron profile and association of iron profile with mucor mycosis in covid-19 associated mucormycosis. Methods: Cross sectional study conducted from May 2021 to July 2021 by the department of general medicine, Banglore medical college and research centre, Karnataka. The data collected was analyzed statistically using descriptive statistics. Results: We observed increased prevalence of mucor cases among the patients aged between 41 to 60 years and those who were not vaccinated. Hyperglycaemia had strong correlation with development of mucor. There was lower UIBC, lower TIBC, high ferritin and serum Iron levels among those who had developed mucormycosis. Conclusions: By our observations, we concluded that the increased serum iron, ferritin, transferrin and reduced TIBC and UIBC are the associated risk factor in the development of COVID 19 associated invasive mucor mycosis. Patients with HbA1c >7 are at higher risk of developing COVID 19 associated mucor mycosis

Building a Text Collection for Urdu Information Retrieval

    Get PDF
Urdu is a widely spoken language in the Indian subcontinent with over 300 million speakers worldwide. However, linguistic advancements in Urdu are rare compared to those in other European and Asian languages. Therefore, by following Text Retrieval Conference standards, we attempted to construct an extensive text collection of 85 304 documents from diverse categories covering over 52 topics with relevance judgment sets at 100 pool depth. We also present several applications to demonstrate the effectiveness of our collection. Although this collection is primarily intended for text retrieval, it can also be used for named entity recognition, text summarization, and other linguistic applications with suitable modifications. Ours is the most extensive existing collection for the Urdu language, and it will be freely available for future research and academic education

Netted radar modelling, design and optimisation

Networks of phased array radars are able to provide better counter stealth target detection and classification. Each radar sensor/node generates information which requires transmission to a central control authority who is able to evaluate the information. This requires a communications network to be established to allow transmission of information to and from any node. Each radar node is limited by range and degree and relies on the formation of a multi-hop network to facilitate this transmission. This thesis investigates a method whereby the radar beam itself is used in the formation of a multi-hop network. The phased array's multifunctional nature allows rapid switching between communications and radar function. A complete model of how the communication system could operate is included in this thesis. In order to simulate radar function and network communication, a custom built simulation platform was used. Two different approaches to the formation of the radar networks are derived, one involving a global design method using the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm (SPEA) and another using a local method specifically tailored to radar network formation, Distributed Algorithm for Radar Topology Control (DARTC). Both of these techniques can be used in the formation of radar networks. The thesis goes further to suggest modifications to the model itself that could result in improved radar network communication performance.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo

Audio, image and video signals produce a vast amount of data. The only solution of this problem is to compress data before storage and transmission. In general there is the three crucial terms as, Bit Rate Reduction, Fast Data Transfer and Reduction in Storage. Rate control is a vigorous factor in video coding. In video communications, rate control must ensure the coded bitstream can be transmitted effectively and make full use of the narrow bandwidth. There are various test models usually suggested by a standard during the development of video codes models in order to video coding which should be suffienciently be efficient based on H.264 at very low bit rate. These models are Test Model Number 5 (TMN5), Test Model Number 8 for H.263, and Verification Model 8 (VM8) for MPEG-4 and H.264 etc. In this work, Rate control analysis for H.264, MPEG-4 performed. For Rate control analysis test model verification model version 8.0 is adopted
