    Impact of astigmatism and high-order aberrations on subjective best focus

We studied the role of native astigmatism and ocular aberrations on best-focus setting and its shift upon induction of astigmatism in 42 subjects (emmetropes, myopes, hyperopes, with-the-rule [WTR] and against-the-rule [ATR] myopic astigmats). Stimuli were presented in a custom-developed adaptive optics simulator, allowing correction for native aberrations and astigmatism induction (+1 D; 6-mm pupil). Best-focus search consisted on randomized-step interleaved staircase method. Each subject searched best focus for four different images, and four different conditions (with/without aberration correction, with/without astigmatism induction). The presence of aberrations induced a significant shift in subjective best focus (0.4 D; p < 0.01), significantly correlated (p = 0.005) with the best-focus shift predicted from optical simulations. The induction of astigmatism produced a statistically significant shift of the best-focus setting in all groups under natural aberrations (p = 0.001), and in emmetropes and in WTR astigmats under corrected aberrations (p < 0.0001). Best-focus shift upon induced astigmatism was significantly different across groups, both for natural aberrations and AO-correction (p < 0.0001). Best focus shifted in opposite directions in WTR and ATR astigmats upon induction of astigmatism, symmetrically with respect to the best-focus shift in nonastigmatic myopes. The shifts are consistent with a bias towards vertical and horizontal retinal blur in WTR and ATR astigmats, respectively, indicating adaptation to native astigmatism.The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Research Council under the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP/2007-2013)/ERC Grant Agreement n.     Tangential-flow membrane clarification of Malvar (Vitis vinifera L.) wine: incidence on chemical composition and sensorial expression

    Malvar white wine (Vilis vinifera L.) was cold settled (CSW) and clarified by tangential-flow membrane filtration (TFMF). A 500 kDa molecular mass cut-off membrane was used. Filtration flux of 49-48 L/hm(2) was achieved at transmembrane pressure of 0.7 bar. The treatment produced a completely clarified wine with turbidity of 0.11 NTU, but also a 10.3 % loss of proteins, which could be related to the decrease of some flavour compounds. The CSW and the membrane filtered wines (MFW) were assessed by means of their aroma and phenolic composition, as well as their sensory properties. The results showed that the general physicochemical parameters and most of the analysed phenolic compounds were not or slightly (up to 7.6 %) affected by the TFMF process. Nevertheless, the treatment produced an important loss of some key aroma compounds: up to 43 % of fatty acid and alcohol esters and up to 26 % of higher alcohols. Most affected were aroma species with higher molecular masses and lower polarities. Sensory analysis confirmed the global decrease in wine aroma. TFMF treatment produced also an increase of 52 % of the wine benzaldehyde content

The series provides morphological descriptions, information about the pathology, distribution, hosts and disease symptoms for the treated genera, as well as primary and secondary DNA barcodes for the currently accepted species included in these. This third paper in the GOPHY series treats 21 genera of phytopathogenic fungi and their relatives including: Allophoma, Alternaria, Brunneosphaerella, Elsinoe, Exserohilum, Neosetophoma, Neostagonospora, Nothophoma, Parastagonospora, Phaeosphaeriopsis, Pleiocarpon, Pyrenophora, Ramichloridium, Seifertia, Seiridium, Septoriella, Setophoma, Stagonosporopsis, Stemphylium, Tubakia and Zasmidium.     Multimodal treatment of myophasal chronic pelvic pain in women: institutional experience

    Background: Chronic pelvic pain of myofascial origin is an underdiagnosed condition and with partial responses to the different treatment modalities. The objective of this study was to report the results of the multimodal management of Myofascial Chronic Pelvic Pain.Methods: Retrospective cohort of 33 patients with myofascial chronic pelvic pain, during the period 01 January 2016 to August 31, 2018, who were treated based on trigger point infiltration and analgesic vaginal electrostimulation. The analogous visual pain scale (VAS) was used at the beginning, sixth, twelfth and six months after the last electrostimulation session, in order to measure the effect of the treatment.Results: During the study period, 32 patients with chronic myofascial pelvic pain were found who received the multimodal scheme that is offered in our clinic. The average score of the EVA before starting the treatment was 8.5 points, at the sixth session of the treatment the average EVA was 3.6 points, at the twelfth session of 1.3 points and the average score of the EVA at six months after the last session of the multimodal treatment was 2.9 points. A significant difference was demonstrated in the average EVA score in the first with respect to the sixth, twelfth and six months (p = <0.000). There were no complications or adverse effects secondary to the multimodal treatment.Conclusions: Multimodal treatment was associated with progressive improvement in 80% of patients with miofascial chronic pelvic pain

    PO-011 Introducción: El avance en tratamiento del mieloma múltiple en las últimas décadas ha supuesto mejoría en las tasas de supervivencia y en las posibilidades de manejo en pacientes de edad avanzada o con comorbilidad. Estudios realizados han demostrado la eficacia de nuevos esquemas de tratamiento con lenalidomida o bortezomib asociados o no al tratamiento clásico con melfalán. Objetivos: Describir los esquemas de tratamiento utilizados en pacientes con reciente diagnóstico de mieloma sintomático en primera línea en la práctica clínica habitual en pacientes no candidatos a trasplante. Observar la tendencia en los últimos cinco años y asociarla con las guías de práctica clínica. Analizar la supervivencia libre de progresión en primera línea. Métodos: estudio observacional, descriptivo y retrospectivo realizado en el H. U. Miguel Servet de Zaragoza desde abril 2014 hasta abril 2019. Se incluyeron pacientes con nuevo diagnóstico de mieloma múltiple sintomático no candidatos a trasplante en primera línea (según criterios de IMWG).     Evaluation of allergic and serological tests for diagnosing Brucella melitensis infection in sheep

    A total of 291 unvaccinated sheep from Brucella melitensis-infected flocks were examined for delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) responses with Brucellergene commercial allergen and with cold saline extract and cytosol from rough B. melitensis 115, and their sera were tested in the rose bengal test (RBT), complement fixation test (CFT), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with lipopolysaccharide. DTH reactions were maximal after 72 h, with no intensity differences among allergens, inoculation sites (eyelid and tail), and doses tested. There were no differences in the results recorded by visual inspection and palpation of inoculation sites, by measuring skin thickness with a caliper, or by microscopic examination of samples taken at necropsy; Six days after DTH testing, anergy was observed in 100% of the animals, and 100% reactivity was recovered only after 24 days. All animals were necropsied, and thorough bacteriological searches were performed. The sensitivities found with the 140 animals from which B. melitensis was isolated were ELISA, 100%; DTH, 97.1%; RBT, 92.1%; and CFT, 88.6%. Those results put into question the value of RBT and CFT as screening and confirmatory tests for sheep brucellosis and at least indicate that their standardization should be modified. For 151 tested sheep from which B. melitensis was not isolated, the percentages of positive animals were ELISA, 100%; DTH, 94.0%; RBT, 57.6%; and CFT, 53.6%. All tests were negative for 100 tested sheep from Brucella-free flocks. The different results of bacteriological and immunological tests suggest the usefulness of developing indirect tests able to distinguish truly infected animals from those that have developed an immunological response

    Shape model and spin-state analysis of PHA contact binary (85990) 1999 JV6 from combined radar and optical observations

    Context. The potentially hazardous asteroid (85990)1999 JV6 has been a target of previously published thermal-infrared observations and optical photometry. It has been identified as a promising candidate for possible Yarkovsky-O’Keefe-Radzievskii-Paddack (YORP) effect detection. Aims. The YORP effect is a small thermal-radiation torque considered to be a key factor in spin-state evolution of small Solar System bodies. In order to detect YORP on 1999 JV6 we developed a detailed shape model and analysed the spin-state using both optical and radar observations. Methods. For 1999 JV6, we collected optical photometry between 2007 and 2016. Additionally, we obtained radar echo-power spectra and imaging observations with Arecibo and Goldstone planetary radar facilities in 2015, 2016, and 2017. We combined our data with published optical photometry to develop a robust physical model. Results. We determine that the rotation pole resides at negative latitudes in an area with a 5◦ radius close to the south ecliptic pole. The refined sidereal rotation period is 6.536787±0.000007 h. The radar images are best reproduced with a bilobed shape model. Both lobes of 1999 JV6 can be represented as oblate ellipsoids with a smaller, more spherical component resting at the end of a larger, more elongated component. While contact binaries appear to be abundant in the near-Earth population, there are only a few published shape models for asteroids in this particular configuration. By combining the radar-derived shape model with optical light curves we determine a constant-period solution that fits all available data well. Using light-curve data alone we determine an upper limit for YORP of 8.5×10−8 rad day−2. Conclusions. The bifurcated shape of 1999 JV6 might be a result of two ellipsoidal components gently merging with each other, or a deformation of a rubble pile with a weak-tensile-strength core due to spin-up. The physical model of 1999 JV6 presented here will enable future studies of contact binary asteroid formation and evolution
