Present progress in the characterization of Triticum aestivum/Aegilops ventricosa transfer lines

In the laboratory of M. Metzlaff, genome specific DNA probes from Hordeum vulgare were cloned and characterized by H. Junghans. Regarding repeated DNA sequences our further investigations will concéntrate on the proofof alien chromatin in the wheat -Ae. markgrafii crossing material and on the enlargement of the investigation to their distribution in Poaceae species

Comment on the paper I. M. Suslov: Finite Size Scaling from the Self Consistent Theory of Localization

In the recent paper [I.M.Suslov, JETP {\bf 114} (2012) 107] a new scaling theory of electron localization was proposed. We show that numerical data for the quasi-one dimensional Anderson model do not support predictions of this theory.Comment: Comment on the paper arXiv 1104.043

Introgression of Aegilops triuncialis into Triticum aestivum. A progress report.

    A. Delibes, I. López-Braña, M. Mena y F. García-Olmedo. 1988. Introgression of Aegüops triuncialis into Triticum aestivum. A progress report. An. Aula Dei 19 (1-2): 189-194. The wild grass Aegüops triuncialis (genomes CCUU) has been crossed with the tetraploid wheat Triticum turgidum (AABB) and the resulting ABCU sterile hybrid has been rescued with pollen from the hexaploid T. aestivum (AABBDD). Seven spikes from two hybrid plants were pollinated with pollen from T. aestivum cv. Almatense and 8 kernels were obtained. After five rounds of selfing, plants with 28 to 41 chromosomes have been derived. Low fertility (3-5 viable kernels per plant) was observed throughout the process. Further crosses to T. aestivum will be performed to obtain stable lines that will be screened for Ae. triuncialis genetic material with the aid of previously identified biochemical chromosome markers and specially developed DNA probes

Mirror matter admixtures and isospin breaking in the \Delta I=1/2 rule in \Omega^- two body non-leptonic decays

We discuss a description of \Omega^- two body non-leptonic decays based on possible, albeit tiny, admixtures of mirror matter in ordinary hadrons. The \Delta I=1/2 rule enhancement is obtained as a result of isospin symmetry and, more importantly, the rather large observed deviations from this rule result from small isospin breaking. This analysis lends support to the possibility that the enhancement phenomenon observed in low energy weak interactions may be systematically described by mirror matter admixtures in ordinary hadrons.Comment: Changed conten

On First-Passage Times and Sojourn Times in Finite QBD Processes and Their Applications in Epidemics

In this paper, we revisit level-dependent quasi-birth-death processes with finitely many possible values of the level and phase variables by complementing the work of Gaver, Jacobs, and Latouche (Adv. Appl. Probab. 1984), where the emphasis is upon obtaining numerical methods for evaluating stationary probabilities and moments of first-passage times to higher and lower levels. We provide a matrix-analytic scheme for numerically computing hitting probabilities, the number of upcrossings, sojourn time analysis, and the random area under the level trajectory. Our algorithmic solution is inspired from Gaussian elimination, which is applicable in all our descriptors since the underlying rate matrices have a block-structured form. Using the results obtained, numerical examples are given in the context of varicella-zoster virus infections

QuEChERS-based analytical methods developed for LC-MS/MS multiresidue determination of pesticides in representative crop fatty matrices: Olives and sunflower seeds

Oilseed crops are greatly extended all over the world. Their high fat content can interfere during pesticide multiresidue analysis through liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). This work aimed at overcoming this issue by developing and validating two QuEChERS-based methods for LC-MS/MS determination of 42 pesticides in two fatty food matrices: olives and sunflower seeds. Optimization of the extraction method was achieved following a 26-2 fractional factorial design in a highly cost-effective way. Validation of the multi-residue methods demonstrated improved limits of detection, below the established maximum residue levels (MRLs) for almost all compounds, good precision, and trueness, in compliance with SANTE guidelines. Application of these methods to the analysis of real samples from the Iberian Peninsula showed the presence of some pesticides of relevant environmental concern, including four compounds contained in the Pesticide Action Network International list of highly hazardous pesticides, found at levels between 0.03 ng/g and 104 ng/g
