Effectiveness of a participatory approach for collection of economic data in aquaculture systems at farm level in Brazil.
This paper aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a participatory approach which is currently being applied by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) in aquaculture sector in Brazil

A Verilog-A Based Fractional Frequency Synthesizer Model for Fast and Accurate Noise Assessment
This paper presents a new strategy to simulate fractional frequency synthesizer behavioral models with better performance and reduced simulation time. The models are described in Verilog-A with accurate phase noise predictions and they are based on a time jitter to power spectral density transformation of the principal noise sources in a synthesizer. The results of a fractional frequency synthesizer simulation is compared with state of the art Verilog-A descriptions showing a reduction of nearly 20 times. In addition, experimental results of a fractional frequency synthesizer are compared to the simulation results to validate the proposed model
Gene therapy with Angiotensin-(1-9) preserves left ventricular systolic function after myocardial infarction
BACKGROUND: Angiotensin-(1-9) [Ang-(1-9)] is a novel peptide of the counter-regulatory axis of the renin angiotensin system previously demonstrated to have therapeutic potential in hypertensive cardiomyopathy when administered via osmotic minipump in mice. Here, we investigate whether gene transfer of Ang-(1-9) is cardioprotective in a murine model of myocardial infarction (MI).
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate effects of Ang-(1-9) gene therapy on myocardial structural and functional remodeling post infarction.
METHODS: C57BL/6 mice underwent permanent left anterior descending coronary artery ligation and cardiac function was assessed using echocardiography for 8 weeks followed by a terminal measurement of left ventricular (LV) pressure-volume loops. Ang-(1-9) was delivered by adeno-associated viral vector via single tail vein injection immediately following induction of MI. Direct effects of Ang-(1-9) on cardiomyocyte excitation–contraction coupling and cardiac contraction were evaluated in isolated mouse and human cardiomyocytes and in an ex vivo Langendorff perfused whole heart model.
RESULTS: Gene delivery of Ang-(1-9) significantly reduced sudden cardiac death post-MI. Pressure–volume measurements revealed complete restoration of end systolic pressure, ejection fraction, end systolic volume and the end diastolic pressure–volume relationship by Ang-(1-9) treatment. Stroke volume and cardiac output were significantly increased versus sham. Histological analysis revealed only mild effects on cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis, but a significant increase in scar thickness. Direct assessment of Ang-(1-9) on isolated cardiomyocytes demonstrated a positive inotropic effect via increasing calcium transient amplitude and increasing contractility. Ang-(1-9) increased contraction in the Langendorff model through a protein kinase A-dependent mechanism.
CONCLUSIONS: Our novel findings show that Ang-(1-9) gene therapy preserves LV systolic function post-MI, restoring cardiac function. Furthermore, Ang-(1-9) has a direct effect on cardiomyocyte

calcium handling through a protein kinase A-dependent mechanism. These data highlight Ang-(1-9) gene therapy as a potential new strategy in the context of MI
Analysis of a participatory approach for collection of economic data in aquaculture systems at farm level in Brazil.
Economic assessment at the farm level requires a robust methodology in order to assure reliability. This paper describes an innovative methodology and analyzes its ability to fill a gap regarding economic methodology for farm level aquaculture in Brazil. This methodology consists of collection of technical parameters, production costs and other economic information by expert panels with value chain agents. Variables are obtained through consensus among panel participants considering the typical farm approach (TFA). All collected data are presented to producers in order to improve comprehension about their performance. A benefit of this methodology includes highly reliable data because information is provided by a representative sample of producers that confirm it in a consensus process. Moreover, data collection costs are low in comparison to individual interviews or survey methods. Continuous updating of inputs prices and the high level of participation of producers are other assets of this method. Despite its effectiveness the method presents some challenges including: (a) the heterogeneity of producer profiles and consequent difficulty in standardizing data, (b) the logistic requirements related to organization of meetings, and (c) mobilization of producers and other panel participants in order to assure their representative presence in the meeting
Fractional-order projection of a chaotic system with hidden attractors and its passivity-based synchronization
This paper presents the fractional-order projection of a chaotic system, which delivers a collection of self-excited and hidden chaotic attractors as a function of a single system parameter. Based on an integer-order chaotic system and the proposed transformation, the fractional-order chaotic system obtains when the divergence of integer and fractional vector fields flows in the same direction. Phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams, and Lyapunov exponents validate the chaos generation. Apart from these results, two passivity-based fractional control laws are designed effectively for the integer and fractional-order chaotic systems. In both cases, the synchronization schemes depend on suitable storage functions given by the fractional Lyapunov theory. Several numerical experiments confirm the proposed approach and agree well with the mathematical deductions
