The detailed mechanism of the eta production in pp scattering up to the Tlab = 4.5 GeV
Contrary to very early beliefs, the experimental cross section data for the
eta production in proton-proton scattering are well described if pi and only
eta meson exchange diagrams are used to calculate the Born term. The inclusion
of initial and final state interactions is done in the factorization
approximation by using the inverse square of the Jost function. The two body
Jost functions are obtained from the S matrices in the low energy effective
range approximation. The danger of double counting in the p-eta final state
interaction is discussed. It is shown that higher partial waves in
meson-nucleon amplitudes do not contribute significantly bellow excess energy
of Q=100 MeV. Known difficulties of reducing the multi resonance model to a

Interval training normalizes cCardiomyocyte function, diastolic Ca<sup>2+</sup> control, and SR Ca<sup>2+</sup> release synchronicity in a mouse model of diabetic cardiomyopathy
In the present study we explored the mechanisms behind excitation-contraction (EC)-coupling defects in cardiomyocytes from mice with type-2 diabetes (db/db), and determined whether 13-weeks of aerobic interval training could restore cardiomyocyte Ca2+ cycling and EC-coupling. Reduced contractility in cardiomyocytes isolated from sedentary db/db was associated with increased diastolic sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR)-Ca2+ leak, reduced synchrony of Ca2+ release, reduced transverse (T)-tubule density, and lower peak systolic and diastolic Ca2+ and caffeine-induced Ca2+ release. Additionally, the rate of SR Ca2+ ATPase (SERCA2a)-mediated Ca2+ uptake during diastole was reduced, whereas a faster recovery from caffeine-induced Ca2+ release indicated increased Na+/Ca2+- exchanger (NCX) activity. The increased SR-Ca2+ leak was attributed to increased Ca2+-calmodulindependent protein kinase (CaMKIIδ) phosphorylation, supported by the normalization of SR-Ca2+ leak upon inhibition of CaMKIIδ (AIP). Exercise training restored contractile function associated with restored SR Ca2+ release synchronicity, T-tubule density, twitch Ca2+ amplitude, SERCA2a and NCX activities, and SR-Ca2+ leak. The latter was associated with reduced phosphorylation of cytosolic CaMKIIδ. Despite normal contractile function and Ca2+ handling after the training period, phospholamban was hyperphosphorylated at Serine-16. Protein kinase A (PKA) inhibition (H-89) in cardiomyocytes from the exercised db/db group abolished the differences in SR-Ca2+ load when compared with the sedentary db/db mice. EC-coupling changes were observed without changes in serum insulin or glucose levels, suggesting that the exercise training-induced effects are not via normalization of the diabetic condition. These data demonstrate that aerobic interval training almost completely restored the contractile function of the diabetic cardiomyocyte to levels close to sedentary wild type (WT)
Phenomenology of pp->pp eta reaction close to threshold
The recent high statistics measurement of the pp -> pp eta reaction at an
excess energy Q=15.5 MeV has been analysed by means of partial wave
decomposition of the cross section. Guided by the dominance of the final state
1S0 pp interaction (FSI), we keep only terms involving the FSI enhancement
factor. The measured p-p and p-eta effective mass spectra can be well
reproduced by lifting the standard on-shell approximation in the enhancement
factor and by allowing for a linear energy dependence in the leading 3P0->1S0,s
partial wave amplitude. Higher partial waves seem to play only a marginal role
Efficacy of the probiotic strain Enterococcus faecalis CECT7121 in diarrhoea prevention in newborn foals
The aim of this work was to assess the effectiveness of the probiotic strain Enterococcus faecalis CECT7121 for the prevention of neonatal diarrhea in one to three day-old foals. Fecal samples from twenty foals divided randomly in experimental and control groups were studied. The experimental group (n=10) received E. faecalis CECT7121 (1 x 1010 CFU/ml) orally in the first day of life and for a 6 days period. The control group (n=10) received distilled water for the same period. In 4/10 of the foals from the control group diarrhea was observed, conversely diarrhea cases were not observed in any of the foals belonging to the experimental group. The differences between groups were statistically significant (p&lt;0.001).
E. faecalis CECT7121 was isolated in faeces from the second day of treatment until six days after the end of the probiotic administration. Therefore, E. faecalis CECT 7121 may be considered as a biological tool for the prevention of neonatal diarrhea in foals. Any adverse effects, at least under the conditions of this assay, but more efficacy studies should be performed to evaluate this organism in the prevention or treatment of diseases in foals.El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la eficacia del probiótico Enterococcus faecalis CECT7121 en la prevención de la diarrea neonatal en potrillos de uno a tres días de edad. Se estudiaron muestras de materia fecal de veinte potrillos divididas al azar en grupos experimental y control. Los animales del grupo experimental (n=10) recibieron E. faecalis CECT7121 (1 x 1010 UFC/ml) por vía oral en el primer día de vida y por un período de 6 días. El grupo control (n=10) recibió agua destilada por el mismo período. Se observó que el 40% de los potrillos del grupo control presentaron diarrea, mientras que no se observaron casos de diarrea en ninguno de los potrillos pertenecientes al grupo experimental.
Las diferencias entre los grupos fueron estadísticamente significativas (p&lt;0,001). E. faecalis CECT7121 se aisló en heces desde el segundo día de tratamiento hasta seis días después del final de la administración del probiótico. Por lo tanto este hallazgo indicaría que E. faecalis CECT7121 podría ser considerado como una herramienta biológica para la prevención de la diarrea neonatal en potrillos sin ningún efecto adverso, al menos bajo las condiciones del presente ensayo, aunque más estudios de eficacia se deberían realizar para evaluar este organismo en la prevención o el tratamiento de enfermedades de los potrillos en los haras
Stability of the Zagreb Carnegie-Mellon-Berkeley model
In ref. [1] we have used the Zagreb realization of Carnegie-Melon-Berkeley
coupled-channel, unitary model as a tool for extracting pole positions from the
world collection of partial wave data, with the aim of eliminating model
dependence in pole-search procedures. In order that the method is sensible, we
in this paper discuss the stability of the method with respect to the strong
variation of different model ingredients. We show that the Zagreb CMB procedure
is very stable with strong variation of the model assumptions, and that it can
reliably predict the pole positions of the fitted partial wave amplitudes.Comment: 25 pages, 12 figures, 19 table
Poles, the only true resonant-state signals, are extracted from a worldwide collection of partial wave amplitudes using only one, well controlled pole-extraction method
Each and every energy dependent partial-wave analysis is parameterizing the
pole positions in a procedure defined by the way how the continuous energy
dependence is implemented. These pole positions are, henceforth, inherently
model dependent. To reduce this model dependence, we use only one,
coupled-channel, unitary, fully analytic method based on the isobar
approximation to extract the pole positions from the each available member of
the worldwide collection of partial wave amplitudes which are understood as
nothing more but a good energy dependent representation of genuine experimental
numbers assembled in a form of partial-wave data. In that way, the model
dependence related to the different assumptions on the analytic form of the
partial-wave amplitudes is avoided, and the true confidence limit for the
existence of a particular resonant state, at least in one model, is
established. The way how the method works, and first results are demonstrated

Migration on request, a practical technique for preservation
Maintaining a digital object in a usable state over time is a crucial aspect of digital preservation. Existing methods of preserving have many drawbacks. This paper describes advanced techniques of data migration which can be used to support preservation more accurately and cost effectively.
To ensure that preserved works can be rendered on current computer systems over time, “traditional migration” has been used to convert data into current formats. As the new format becomes obsolete another conversion is performed, etcetera. Traditional migration has many inherent problems as errors during transformation propagate throughout future transformations.
CAMiLEON’s software longevity principles can be applied to a migration strategy, offering improvements over traditional migration. This new approach is named “Migration on Request.” Migration on Request shifts the burden of preservation onto a single tool, which is maintained over time. Always returning to the original format enables potential errors to be significantly reduced
