    Co-presentation of Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome in a patient with Post Dural Puncture Headache

    INTRODUCTION: Post Dural Puncture Headache (PDPH) is a well-known complication of neuraxial anesthesia, however the occurrence of seizures and vision loss within few days after dural puncture could be alarming. Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) is associated with reversible edema and leukoencephalopathy in the posterior parieto-occipital cortex. We report the co-presentation of PRES and PDPH after labor epidural analgesia. CASE PRESENTATION: 25-year-old multiparous African-American woman was admitted for evaluation of new onset seizures and headache in the postpartum period. She had a recent history of multiple needle insertion attempts and inadvertent dural puncture during epidural analgesia for delivery. Soon after delivery, she was diagnosed with PDPH and was treated with epidural blood patch, with no relief of symptoms. Six days later, she developed sudden onset transient blindness, seizures and altered sensorium and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain revealed white matter changes suggestive of PRES. CONCLUSION: PRES is an uncommon complication of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak and intracranial hypotension. We report the occurrence of PRES in a patient with no known risk factors, except a traumatic dural tap. Is it important to expand the differentials for headache after dural puncture to encompass PRES as a possibility, especially in patients with a delayed presentation of seizures and cortical blindness

    Trypanosoma brucei RAP1 Has Essential Functional Domains That Are Required for Different Protein Interactions

    RAP1 is a telomere protein that is well conserved from protozoa to mammals. It plays important roles in chromosome end protection, telomere length control, and gene expression/silencing at both telomeric and nontelomeric loci. Interaction with different partners is an important mechanism by which RAP1 executes its different functions in yeast. The RAP1 ortholog in Trypanosoma brucei is essential for variant surface glycoprotein (VSG) monoallelic expression, an important aspect of antigenic variation, where T. brucei regularly switches its major surface antigen, VSG, to evade the host immune response. Like other RAP1 orthologs, T. brucei RAP1 (TbRAP1) has conserved functional domains, including BRCA1 C terminus (BRCT), Myb, MybLike, and RAP1 C terminus (RCT). To study functions of various TbRAP1 domains, we established a strain in which one endogenous allele of TbRAP1 is flanked by loxP repeats, enabling its conditional deletion by Cre-mediated recombination. We replaced the other TbRAP1 allele with various mutant alleles lacking individual functional domains and examined their nuclear localization and protein interaction abilities. The N terminus, BRCT, and RCT of TbRAP1 are required for normal protein levels, while the Myb and MybLike domains are essential for normal cell growth. Additionally, the Myb domain of TbRAP1 is required for its interaction with T. brucei TTAGGG repeat-binding factor (TbTRF), while the BRCT domain is required for its self-interaction. Furthermore, the TbRAP1 MybLike domain contains a bipartite nuclear localization signal that is required for its interaction with importin α and its nuclear localization. Interestingly, RAP1\u27s self-interaction and the interaction between RAP1 and TRF are conserved from kinetoplastids to mammals.     Consumer Perception of Online Marketplace in Bangladesh: An Empirical Study on Dhaka City

    Bangladesh is one of the growing economically developing countries, where the online marketplace is becoming popular in recent days. Besides the traditional market or super shops, online marketplaces grab the eyeballs of the consumers, because of avoiding a heavy traffic jam, huge time consuming, public gathering, and recent Covid-19 lockdown. This paper conducted an empirical study to measure the consumer perception of the online marketplace. The relationship between consumer preference and demographic data is also analyzed. It has been found that major responders are young in age, male in gender, and student and jobholders in occupation. Whereas, books and foods are the main preferred product to purchase online because those twos are reliable and easy to ensure quality rather than clothing, cosmetics, and other products. A suggestion would be concluded by this paper is that products in the online marketplace must increase the quality and reliability to ensure the purchasing preference by the consumers. &nbsp

    Financial Profitability and Resource Use Efficiency of Broiler Farming in a Selected Area of Bangladesh

    The present study was undertaken to investigate the socio-economic characteristics of the broiler farmers, to estimate the costs, returns and profitability of broiler enterprise and to determine the contribution of the key variables to the production of broiler farms in some selected locations of Dhaka district, Bangladesh. It was mainly done on primary data which were collected through face to face interview from the respondents of broiler production in 2014. 80 broiler farm owners were selected by using simple sample randomly technique.  Both tabular and econometric techniques were used to find out the results. The results of the analysis showed that on average total cost of broilers per farm per year was Tk. 301142.103. It was found that the variable cost per farm per year stood at Tk. 238728.73 which accounted for 79.28 percent of total cost. The total fixed cost per farm per year accounted to Tk. 62413.373. The net return over total cost per farm per year was calculated at Tk. 130257.90. The benefit cost ratios of broiler farming were 1.80 on variable cost basis and 1.43 on total cost basis. The functional analysis indicated that most of the selected variables had significant impact on the production of broiler farms. This study also identified some economic, marketing, technical, social and natural problems in broiler production. Finally, on the basis of findings of this study, some recommendations were made for the development of broiler farming in Bangladesh

    Calibration of the LIGO displacement actuators via laser frequency modulation

    We present a frequency modulation technique for calibration of the displacement actuators of the LIGO 4-km-long interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. With the interferometer locked in a single-arm configuration, we modulate the frequency of the laser light, creating an effective length variation that we calibrate by measuring the amplitude of the frequency modulation. By simultaneously driving the voice coil actuators that control the length of the arm cavity, we calibrate the voice coil actuation coefficient with an estimated 1-sigma uncertainty of less than one percent. This technique enables a force-free, single-step actuator calibration using a displacement fiducial that is fundamentally different from those employed in other calibration methods.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Classical and Quantum Gravit

    The hypoglycemic effect of Momordica charantia (Karela) has been reported from many laboratories. To our knowledge, the underlying biochemical mechanism of action of this important clinical effect has not been reported. During the course of investigation of this aspect of the herbal fruit, it was reported from our laboratory that ethanolic extract of Momordica charantia suppressed gluconeogenesis in normal and streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats by depressing the hepatic gluconeogenic enzymes fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase and glucose-6-phosphatase. The herbal extract had also enhanced the activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, the rate-limiting enzyme of hexose monophosphate shunt (a pathway for the oxidation of glucose)

Bangladesh is an agriculture based country and production of rice is increasing in tremendous amount in the last decade. Rice husk based power plants are already installed in India, Indonesia and South Korea. However there are some locations in which rice husk based power station projects could be feasible in Bangladesh. By analyzing the previously collected data on the selected location, this work has been carried out to predict if these resources are sufficient for rice husk power, in the hope to extract electrical power.     Controlling calibration errors in gravitational-wave detectors by precise location of calibration forces

    We present results of finite element analysis simulations which could lead to more accurate calibration of interferometric gravitational wave detectors. Calibration and actuation forces applied to the interferometer test masses cause elastic deformation, inducing errors in the calibration. These errors increase with actuation frequency, and can be greater than 50% at frequencies above a few kilohertz. We show that they can be reduced significantly by optimizing the position at which the forces are applied. The Advanced LIGO [1] photon calibrators use a two-beam configuration to reduce the impact of local deformations of the test mass surface. The position of the beams over the test mass can be chosen such both the local and the bulk induced elastic deformation are minimized. Our finite element modeling indicates that with two beams positioned within ±1 mm of their optimal locations, calibration errors due to test mass elastic deformation can be kept below 1% for frequencies up to 3.5 kHz. We thus show that precise control of the location of calibration forces could considerably improve calibration accuracy, especially at high frequencies
