Theory of charge fluctuations and domain relocation times in semiconductor superlattices
Shot noise affects differently the nonlinear electron transport in
semiconductor superlattices depending on the strength of the coupling among the
superlattice quantum wells. Strongly coupled superlattices can be described by
a miniband Boltzmann-Langevin equation from which a stochastic drift-diffusion
equation is derived by means of a consistent Chapman-Enskog method. Similarly,
shot noise in weakly coupled, highly doped semiconductor superlattices is
described by a stochastic discrete drift-diffusion model. The current-voltage
characteristics of the corresponding deterministic model consist of a number of
stable branches corresponding to electric field profiles displaying two domains
separated by a domain wall. If the initial state corresponds to a voltage on
the middle of a stable branch and is suddenly switched to a final voltage
corresponding to the next branch, the domains relocate after a certain delay
time, called relocation time. The possible scalings of this mean relocation
time are discussed using bifurcation theory and the classical results for
escape of a Brownian particle from a potential well.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figure
Two-Body Cabibbo-Suppressed Charmed Meson Decays
Singly-Cabibbo-suppressed decays of charmed particles governed by the quark
subprocesses and are analyzed using a
flavor-topology approach, based on a previous analysis of the Cabibbo-favored
decays governed by . Decays to and , where is a
pseudoscalar meson and is a vector meson, are considered. We include

Bondi-Sachs metrics and Photon Rockets
We study the Bondi-Sachs rockets with nonzero cosmological constant. We
observe that the acceleration of the systems arises naturally in the asymptotic
symmetries of (anti-) de Sitter spacetimes. Assuming the validity of the
concepts of energy and mass previously introduced in asymptotically flat
spacetimes, we find that the emission of pure radiation energy balances the
loss of the Bondi mass in certain special families of the Bondi-Sachs rockets,

Nonlinear stochastic discrete drift-diffusion theory of charge fluctuations and domain relocation times in semiconductor superlattices
A stochastic discrete drift-diffusion model is proposed to account for the
effects of shot noise in weakly coupled, highly doped semiconductor
superlattices. Their current-voltage characteristics consist of a number stable
multistable branches corresponding to electric field profiles displaying two
domains separated by a domain wall. If the initial state corresponds to a
voltage on the middle of a stable branch and a sudden voltage is switched so
that the final voltage corresponds to the next branch, the domains relocate
after a certain delay time. Shot noise causes the distribution of delay times
to change from a Gaussian to a first passage time distribution as the final
voltage approaches that of the end of the first current branch. These results
agree qualitatively with experiments by Rogozia {\it et al} (Phys. Rev. B {\bf

Charmless Two-body Baryonic B Decays
We study charmless two-body baryonic B decays in a diagramatic approach.
Relations on decay amplitudes are obtained. In general there are more than one
tree and more than one penguin amplitudes. The number of independent amplitudes
can be reduced in the large m_B limit. It leads to more predictive results.

Single crystal XRD study of 4,4'-dipyridyl - p-ethoxybenzoic acid and N,N'-dipyridylpiperazine - p-ethoxybenzoic acid co-crystals: Direct evidence of H-bond interaction in the corresponding liquid-crystalline mesogenic phases
Supramolecular H-bonded complexes formed between p-ethoxybenzoic acid and 4,4'-dipyridyl or N,N'-dipyridylpiperazine were obtained as nematic liquid-crystalline phases. The corresponding crystals suitable for single crystal X-ray analysis were isolated and investigated. The stoichiomtery of complex 1 is (4,4'-dipyridyl)-2(p-ethoxybenzoic acid) and that of complex 2 is (N,N'-dipyridylpiperazine)-2(p-ethoxybenzoic acid). The molecular packing observed in the crystal structures investigated indicates that the mesogenic phases of the complexes are induced by H-bond interactions
Lean Breed Landrace Pigs Harbor Fecal Methanogens at Higher Diversity and Density than Obese Breed Erhualian Pigs
The diversity of fecal methanogens of Erhualian (obese type) and Landrace (lean type) pigs was examined using separate 16S rRNA gene libraries for each breed. A total of 763 clones were analyzed; 381 from the Erhualian library and 382 from the Landrace library were identified belonging to the genus Methanobrevibacter. Others were identified belonging to the genus Methanosphaera. The two libraries showed significant differences in diversity (P <0.05) and composition (P <0.0001). Only two operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were found in both libraries, whereas six OTUs were found only in the Erhualian library and 23 OTUs were found only in the Landrace library. Real-time PCR showed that the abundance of fecal methanogens in Landrace pigs was significantly higher than that in Erhualian pigs (P <0.05). Results showed that the Landrace pig (lean) harbored a greater diversity and higher numbers of methanogen mcrA gene copies than the Erhualian pig (obese). These differences may be related to the fatness or leanness in these two pig breeds. The results provide new leads for further investigations on the fat storage of pigs or even humans
Magnetotransport in Two-Dimensional Electron Systems with Spin-Orbit Interaction
We present magnetotransport calculations for homogeneous two-dimensional
electron systems including the Rashba spin-orbit interaction, which mixes the
spin-eigenstates and leads to a modified fan-chart with crossing Landau levels.
The quantum mechanical Kubo formula is evaluated by taking into account
spin-conserving scatterers in an extension of the self-consistent Born
approximation that considers the spin degree of freedom. The calculated
conductivity exhibits besides the well-known beating in the Shubnikov-de Haas
(SdH) oscillations a modulation which is due to a suppression of scattering
away from the crossing points of Landau levels and does not show up in the
density of states. This modulation, surviving even at elevated temperatures
when the SdH oscillations are damped out, could serve to identify spin-orbit
coupling in magnetotransport experiments. Our magnetotransport calculations are
extended also to lateral superlattices and predictions are made with respect to
1/B periodic oscillations in dependence on carrier density and strength of the

Test of Factorization Hypothesis from Exclusive Non-leptonic B decays
We investigate the possibility of testing factorization hypothesis in
non-leptonic exclusive decays of B-meson. In particular, we considered the non
factorizable \bar{B^0} -> D^{(*)+} D_s^{(*)-} modes and \bar{B^0} -> D^{(*)+}
(\pi^-, \rho^-) known as well-factorizable modes. By taking the ratios
BR(\bar{B^0}-> D^{(*)+}D_s^{(*)-})/BR(\bar{B^0}-> D^{(*)+}(\pi^-,\rho^-)), we
found that under the present theoretical and experimental uncertainties there's
no evidence for the breakdown of factorization description to heavy-heavy
decays of the B meson.Comment: 11 pages; submitted to PR
Charmless decays using flavor SU(3) symmetry
The decays of mesons to a pair of charmless pseudoscalar () mesons are
analyzed within a framework of flavor SU(3). Symmetry breaking is taken into
account in tree () amplitudes through ratios of decay constants; exact SU(3)
is assumed elsewhere. Acceptable fits to and
branching ratios and CP asymmetries are obtained with tree, color-suppressed
(), penguin (), and electroweak penguin () amplitudes. Crucial
additional terms for describing processes involving and include
a large flavor-singlet penguin amplitude () as proposed earlier and a
penguin amplitude associated with intermediate and quarks. For
the mode a term associated with intermediate
and quarks also may be needed. Values of the weak phase are
obtained consistent with an earlier analysis of decays, where
