A new genus and species of the family Phoxocephalidae is here described with material collected during the Mini Biological Trawl Project at 224 and 500 m depth off Brazil’s southeastern coast in the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Atlantiphoxus wajapi n. gen., n. sp. can be grouped in the subfamily Phoxocephalinae and seems to be morphologically close to Fuegiphoxus Barnard and Barnard, 1980 and Parharpinia Stebbing, 1899. However it can be easily distinguished within the phoxocephalids by the following characters: deep pereonites with small coxae; rostrum unconstricted; eyes absent; mandible molar not triturative, but as a small hump with 3 multicuspidate stout setae; pereopods 3-4 with stout dactylus; pereopod 5 basis strongly tapering distally; pereopod 7 basis anterodistal corner with a row of long plumose setae; dactylus elongate. Epimeral plate 3 posteroventral margin strongly produced.

Gold in sericite-quartz hydrothermalites controled by brasiliano conjugate shear zones in the cavalcante (gq) region, central, Brazil

    Get PDF
In the Cavalcante area, north-northeastern part of the Goiás State, Central Brazil(coordinates 47° 30 - 47° 20 W and 13° 40 -13° 50 S), about eighty lens-shaped bodies of sericite-quartz S-C mylonites have been mapped andmost of them are along dextral, ENE- and sinistrai WNW-trending, sub-vertical, ductile-brittle shear zones that intercept each other and cross-cutboth the Archean-Paleoproterozoic basement and the Mesoproterozoic Araí Group. The shear zones stretch for 1-5 km whereas the Au-bearing bodies are much shorter and have an average width about 20-30 m. Seventy of these bodies have been sampled and contain gold in variableamounts, whereas the remaining ten bodies have not been prospected yet.The Cavalcante shear zone (dextral) is one of such structures and encloses the Cavalcante Mine, which has been producing gold (and platinum)since 1750, from underground operations in a 60 m-long segment of the Cavalcante sericite-quartz mylonite body, which is about 500 m-long,20-25 m-wide and displays a sub-vertical, N60°-70°E trending C foliation, and a N10°-30°E trending S foliation dipping around 75° -80° to ESE. Abundant geology and chemistry data from drill holes and underground galleries have allowed to state that the Cavalcante orebody is anamalgamation of several lenses displaying a map-view sigmoidal geometry with 10-20 m-long axis parallel to the S foliation and a 3-5 m-longshort axis in the perpendicular direction. They plunge about 80° to ENE and are continuous at depth for several tens of meters, as demonstratedby the mining operations. Gold occurs as generally sub-mm flattened grains controlled along the foliation planes and the higher grades areassociated with ore displaying a hydrothermal alteration characterized at least by pyrite, tourmaline, magnetite and carbonate minerals. Detailedstructural relationships clearly demonstrate that the mineralisation is syntectonic and the deformation was progressive, as Aubearing syn tectonicsiliceous veins emplaced subparallel to the S-C planes or along synthetic R planes (possibly R' planes as well) were also sheared and washedby Bobearing fluids. An absolute age determination of the mineralisation is still missing, but the conjugate pair of shear zones fits well with a nearly E-W trendingmaximum horizontal stress that is entirely compatible with the Brasiliano event already documented in the surroundings of Cavalcante. The tensof Aubearing bodies of hydrothermalite along the shear zones places the Cavalcante area in the rank of those with a very high potential for goldexploration

It is of our interest, in this article, to expose reflections built during the development of the doctorate thesis in education, when the (auto)biographic narrative approach  was chosen as pathway of investigation of research on lettering agents in border schools, considering human rationality, sensible and shared (BRAGANÇA, 2011) presented by this theoretical-methodology addressing. The ideas rooted in the approach presented experimental dimensions, which allowed us to understand the faculty formation and savoir-faire from reflexive linguistic techniques. In addition, it has been observed that the knowledge construction is straight implied in the subject engagement with their biocognitive process, allowing them to integrate to their conscience, discoveries, significances and learning, which are primary in a research. We will support theses reflections in bibliographic studies that provide the formative potential of the subject in a research to the narrative, linking action and thoughts through a subjective and self-reflective movement. A new species of Foxiphalus Barnard, 1979 is described. The material examined was collected as part of the project "Avaliação da biota bentônica e planctônica da Bacia Potiguar e Ceará" (BPOT), off northeastern Brazilian continental slope on the state of Rio Grande do Norte at depths ranging from 135 to 283 meters. Foxiphalus potiguara sp. nov. is recognized among its congeners by: rostrum slightly exceeding the article 2 of antenna 1; lower lip outer lobes with strong shoulder cusps; maxilliped inner plate with two apical robust setae; gnathopod 2 carpus shortened; pereopod 5 basis tapering distally; and epimeral plate 3 posterior margin weakly crenulated. This is the first record of Foxiphalus for the Atlantic Ocean and we provide an amended diagnosis of the genus and an identification key to its world species. In addition, two new records of Phoxocephalidae are reported from northeastern Brazil: Heterophoxus shoemakeri Andrade & Senna, 2020 and Metharpinia dentiurosoma Alonso de Pina, 2003

Developing Bus Rapid Transit Systems In Brazil Through Public Private Partnerships

    Get PDF
By the end of the 1970’s, Brazil was leading the implementation of high-flow bus priority schemes. Busways were introduced in cities like São Paulo, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte and Goiânia under the coordination of a Federal agency. But the constitutional reform of 1988 delegated most of the Federal attributions back to States and Cities including those related to urban transit transportation, causing the curtailment of a successful national program. Many Brazilian cities are incapable of contracting financial debts to implement public infrastructures and private investments geared towards implementing new urban transport infrastructure are still very limited. In Brazil, there is a great predominance of buses over rail-based technologies in the provision of transit services. The operation of the transit systems is mostly private, with fares covering vehicle capital and operating costs whereas the public sector provides and maintains the infrastructure for operating the bus services. This paper explores new dimensions for the participation of the private sector in the provision of the transit infrastructure based on publicprivate partnership (PPP) schemes conceived for bus rapid transit (BRT) projects in São Paulo and Porto Alegre. The regulatory-normative framework in Brazil is based on the concept that the State should provide only infrastructure services that are essential and when no other source is available. The 1995 Concessions’ Law provided the legal-institutional framework for private participation to proceed on a wider scale in the country. A 2004 law establishes the general rules for PPP and provides for solid public payment guarantees as part of an additional effort to attract the private sector to invest in infrastructure and to eliminate the existing bottlenecks that have put the Brazilian economic development on hold. BRT systems, as opposed to rail-based technologies, have the ability to deliver a high-quality mass transit system within the budgets of even the low income municipalities. It is estimated that only the Brazilian cities with more than 1 million inhabitants present a potential for implementing 590 km of bus corridors. Most of the already existing busway corridors in Brazil need renovation and BRT systems offer the opportunity of increasing transit productivity while overcoming the problems generated by the irrationality of multiple superimposed radial routes converging to terminals located at the city centres. The BRT project of Porto Alegre consists of a diametral route crossing the city centre and linking trunk and feeding interchange terminals being planned to accommodate areas dedicated to retail and service activities. It is expected that these areas shall generate enough revenues to remunerate private investors, under a PPP scheme, for the construction of the terminals and most of the infrastructure required to upgrade some sections of the existing busways to BRT standards. The BRT project for the East-Northeast zone of São Paulo proposes to use value capture mechanisms made legal by the Statute of the Cities, enacted in 2001. These include the concept of an urban operation – a legally defined set of interventions and projects to be carried out within a specific area – and the issue of tradable certificates of additional building rights in the area. In combination, these mechanisms allow the anticipation of the financial resources required to execute the proposed projects needed to raise property values in the region.Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies.
