The desecuritization of drug trafficking in Mexico under the AMLO administration.

The present paper analyzes, from the perspective of desecuritization theory, the manner in which Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) changed the policy of the Mexican government for tackling drug trafficking in the country from a military to a social approach. The aim is to establish whether this strategy has been successful in comparison with the open war waged against the drug cartels over the twelve years preceding the AMLO administration. Given that this desecuritization strategy resulted from political decision-making rather than social pressure, the analysis presented here focuses on the President’s position and the actions he has taken

Space, Time and Nature: The process and the myth

The article fits into the debate regarding space, time and nature in dialogue with the world lived by subjects that build up themselves or are built as mythological heroes, source of speech and spacial concrete practices. It's a poorly explored field in Geography that recently approaches to the cultural dynamic debate, to the symbolic field and also to their spacialization processes. The aim is to discuss the possibility of understanding in the present time about the space organization processes related to the society's previous moments, in a space/time dialectics which articulate the present and past times in a complex and non linear way. Methodologically, starting from a literature review about the theme, the present study was linked to the field and documental research about migration to the vicinal ways of Transamazônica Highway (BR-230 Highway), the creation of the "Centro Espírita União do Vegetal", a religion that arises in the Amazon and set up its headquarters in Brasília and the construction of Brasilia as a modern metropolis without a past. The conclusion points at the possibility of space/time nexuses linking the Myth of Nature to the Creation of Heroes, constantly appropriated and with new meanings, in order to support speeches and new actions dialectically throughout the Brazilian contemporaneous space

CUSTOS DE MENSURAÇÃO E GOVERNANÇA NO AGRONEGÓCIO: UM ESTUDO DE CASOS MÚLTIPLOS NO SISTEMA AGROINDUSTRIAL DA CARNE BOVINA

Measurement Cost Theory (MCT) and Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) are both theoretical frameworks applied to the study of economic transactions. In the MCT, the attributes’ measurability is a key variable for identifying efficient modes of governance. The application of MCT to agri systems coordination is the context of this work, whose objective is to identify the governance mechanisms adopted in the beef chain. The transaction attributes of five beef chain subsystems and their degree of measurability (MCT) were analyzed according to TCE. An increasing gradient of coordination in function of the increase of asset specificity was observed, moving from one extreme of the spot market, exemplified by the commodity subsystem, to vertical integration, exemplified by organic beef. The same gradient is observed when the attributes’ measurability is considered as the explanatory variable, with the exception of the organic beef subsystem. It was concluded that the MCT is a theoretical framework that can be applied to the study of agri systems, as its analysis that is in line with that offered by the TCE, but is also more flexible and operational.beef, governance mode, competitiveness, transaction cost economics, measurement costs theory., Agribusiness, Agricultural Finance, Industrial Organization,

Comparative evaluation of the effects of a new biological adhesive (Colagel) on the tensile strength and healing of intestinal anastomoses

The effects of a new biological adhesive based on a mixture of gelatin-resorcin and formaldehyde (Colagel) for use as an adjuvant in the reinforcement, impermeabilization and healing of intestinal anastomoses were evaluated and compared to those obtained with omentun fixation, the standard procedure used for this purpose. Two ileal anastomoses were performed in each of 12 experimental dogs using an extramucosal technique and single plane sutures. One of the anastomoses in each animal was covered with adhesive and the other with omentun, in random order. The anastomosed intestinal segments were tested for tensile strength and analysed histopathologically 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after surgery. The tensile strength of the anastomoses treated by the two different procedures was statistically identical. Histopathology revealed normal healing evolution for both procedures on days 1, 3 and 7, and greater exudation in the adhesive group on days 14, 21 and 28 after surgery.

IMPROVEMENT OF PICK-UP ROUTES FOR AN INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING ENTERPRISE BY USING A HEURISTIC METHOD

    Get PDF
Route design is an important factor for the management of supply and logistics operations required by production processes. In this work the re-design of pick-up/delivery routes for an international shipping enterprise was performed to improve vehicle utilization for pick-up/delivery operations and reduce transportation time. The re-design of the routes was accomplished by using a random heuristic method. As a result, it was obtained that pickup/delivery for all clients can be performed with a small number of vehicles. Also, vehicle utilization can be maximized over 90.00% with a significant reduction in total transportation time which leads to decrease operational cost. The additional available time then can be used to cover a higher number of clients, increasing the presence of the enterprise in the market

Cross-Boundary Energy-Resources Assessment for an Integrated Sources Harnessing and Sustainable Development

The objective of this study is to evaluate the energy resources (ER) and the regulatory framework of the South American countries aiming at the sustainable development and to develop the South America Energy Integration (SAEI) in the long term focusing on structures such as transmission lines and pipelines. The methodology is based on the IERP (Integrated Energy-Resources Planning) and the analysis of the EI existing in South America. As result, the regulatory assessment provided evidence that the current structure is already in place with binational hydroelectric plants and transnational pipelines that promote energy integration. On the other hand, SAIE still needs an institutional evolution that gives more integration and quicker solutions to international arbitration. Finally, the construction of the attributes and sub-attributes and their respective valuations aiming at a SAEI strategy is not trivial, there is a need for the complete assessment of all the attributes and sub-attributes of the four dimensions established in the IERP methodology of the expansion of the SSERs analyzed to provide a strategy for the SAEI
