    Pancreatitis aguda como causa de muerte en autopsias médico legales : ¿Patología o artefacto postmortem?.

    La pancreatitis aguda es una enfermedad de variada etiología y presentación clínica, que va desde casos muy leves y autolimitados hasta casos graves de falla multiorgánica y muerte. Morfológicamente, la forma leve de la enfermedad se manifiesta por edema del órgano, mientras que en la grave, se encuentran desde focos de hemorragia y necrosis grasa, hasta un masivo hematoma retroperitoneal. Por otra parte, el páncreas autolizado también suele presentar un aspecto hemorrágico, posible causa de confusión y error diagnóstico. La diferencia se puede determinar mediante el estudio microscópico del tejido pancreático: en la autólisis hay una pérdida completa de la arquitectura histológica, sin cambios inflamatorios, mientras que en la pancreatitis aguda se observa infiltrado inflamatorio agudo, necrosis de células acinares, extravasación de eritrocitos y ocasionalmente, depósitos de calcio. Este trabajo tuvo como finalidad determinar si las muertes por pancreatitis aguda diagnosticadas a través de autopsias médico legales en Panamá durante los años 2009 a 2011, correspondieron a hallazgos patológicos o a cambios autolíticos postmortem

    Sedimentology and fluvial styles of the uppermost Cretaceous continental deposits of the Austral-Magallanes Basin, Patagonia, Argentina

    The sedimentary infill of the Austral-Magallanes Basin since the onset of its foreland stage in the Lago Argentino region is dominated by deep-marine and coastal deposits. However, during the Late Cretaceous the basin accumulated a thick and poorly known continental sedimentary succession, which has received different lithostratigraphic names. The aim of this work is to characterize the here defined Uppermost Cretaceous Continental Deposits (UCCD) from a detailed facies and architectural analysis, as well as the resulting stacking pattern. Seven Facies Associations (FAs) were discriminated in order to define the sedimentary paleoenvironments: FA1, gravelly sheet bodies; FA2, tabular bodies of conglomerates with mud rip-up clasts; FA3, complex tabular sandy bodies; FA4, simple tabular sandy bodies; FA5, tabular bodies of structureless sandstones; FA6, heterolithic deposits; and FA7, fine-grained deposits. Three different fluvial styles were recognized: meandering systems dominated by avulsion and meander abandonment processes (fluvial style a), braided systems (fluvial style b), and meandering systems dominated by overbank flood processes (fluvial style c). The stacking pattern of the FAs allowed to divide the UCCD into two major depositional stages related to the accommodation space vs sediment supply (A/S) ratio. Stage I is characterized by the alternation of fluvial styles a and b, while the Stage II is represented by the alternation of fluvial styles c and b, and the Stage III is characterized entirely by fluvial style c deposits. Although the UCCD are considered as a whole within a framework of low A/S ratio, several high frequency variations were recognized. The Stage I records seven high frequency intervals of which four are characterized by high A/S ratio interrupted by three events of low A/S. While the stage II is represented by six high frequency periods of low A/S ratio and other five high frequency events of high A/S ratio. The Stage II is considered as deposited in a relative higher A/S context in comparison with the Stage I, based on the behavior of the moderate to high sinuosity meander fluvial systems.     ICD-data collection features: an international survey

    Background:  The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is globally used for coding morbidity and mortality statistics, however, its use, as well as the data collection features vary greatly across countries. Objective: To characterize hospital ICD-coded data collection worldwide. Methods: After an in-depth grey and academic literature review, an online survey was created to poll the 194 World Health Organization (WHO) member countries. Questions focused on hospital data collection systems and ICD-coded data features. The survey was distributed, using different methods, to potential participants that met the specific criteria, as well as organizations specialized in the topic, such as WHO Collaborating Centers (WHO-CC) or International Federation of Health Information Management Association (IFHIMA), to be forwarded to their representatives. Answers were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Data from 48 respondents from 26 different countries has been collected. Results reveal worldwide use of ICD, with variations in the maximum allowable coding fields for diagnoses and interventions. For instance, in some countries there is an unlimited number of coding fields (Netherlands, Thailand and Iran), as opposed to others with only 1-6 available (Guatemala or Mauritius). Disparities also exist in the definition of a main condition, as 60% of the countries use “reason for admission” and 40% utilize “resource use”. Additionally, the mandatory type of data fields in the hospital morbidity database (e.g. patient demographics, admission type, discharge disposition, diagnoses, …) differ among countries, with diagnosis timing and physician information being the least frequently required. Conclusion: These survey data will establish the current state of ICD use internationally, which will ultimately be valuable to the WHO for the promotion of ICD and the rollout of ICD-11. Additionally, it will improve international comparisons of health data, and encourage further research on how to improve ICD coding

    WINGS: a WIde-field nearby Galaxy-cluster survey III. Deep near-infrared photometry of 28 nearby clusters

    Context. This is the third paper of a series devoted to the WIde-field Nearby Galaxy-cluster Survey (WINGS).WINGS is a long term project aimed at gathering wide-field, multiband imaging and spectroscopy of galaxies in a complete sample of 77 X-ray selected nearby clusters (0.04<z<0.07) located far from the galactic plane (b>20deg). The main goal of this project is to establish a local reference sample for evolutionary studies of galaxies and galaxy clusters. Aims. This paper presents the near-infrared (J,K) photometric catalogs of 28 clusters of the WINGS sample and describes the procedures followed to construct them. Methods. The raw data has been reduced at CASU and special care has been devoted to the final coadding, drizzling technique, astrometric solution and magnitude calibration for the WFCAM pipeline processed data. We have constructed the photometric catalogs based on the final calibrated coadded mosaics (0.79 deg2) in J (19 clusters) and K (27 clusters) bands. A customized interactive pipeline has been used to clean the catalogs and to make mock images for photometric errors and completeness estimates. Results. We provide deep near-infrared photometric catalogs (90% complete in detection rate at total magnitudes J =20.5, K =19.4, and in classification rate at J = 19.5 and K = 18.5), giving positions, geometrical parameters, total and aperture magnitudes for all detected sources. For each field we classify the detected sources as stars, galaxies and objects of "unknown" nature.Comment: Published by A&A501.851 - 15 pages, 3 tables, 13 figures.     Hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass produced from domestic sewage treatment in high-rate ponds

    ABSTRACT: This study evaluates the application of biomass produced from the treatment of domestic sewage in high-rate ponds (HRPs) as feedstock for the production of bio-oil via hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL). The effects of reaction time, temperature, and biomass/water ratio on the yield of bio-oil were assessed. In addition, a balance of carbon and nitrogen among the products (bio-oil, aqueous phase, solid residue, and gas) was carried out, in order to evaluate the quality of the bio-oil and possibilities for increasing value from the byproducts. In a 15-min operation at 300 degrees C with biomass/water ratio of 1/10 (w.w(-1)), the bio-oil yield was of 44.4% (Dry Ash Free - daf-basis). Under every condition tested, the solid residue was the most abundant byproduct, mostly due to the high ash content in the biomass. The minimum nitrogen recovery in the bio-oil was 57%, obtained in the operation at 275 degrees C, which is considered the main disadvantage of the process. The use of biomass directly after its production may result in an excessive consumption of energy due to the high water content. However, the need for drying is reduced when compared to other microalgal-based bioenergy production processes, potentially achieving a positive energy balance in the HTL.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Nas crianças, uma baixa autoestima pode desenvolver sentimentos como a angústia, dor, desânimo, preguiça, vergonha, entre tantos outros sentimentos ruins. Em razão disso, auxiliar para que a criança mantenha uma autoestima positiva é uma tarefa fundamental para o crescimento da mesma. O ambiente familiar é o fator que mais influencia na autoestima das crianças. Isso quer dizer que é dentro do ambiente familiar, aonde as crianças vão crescendo e formando sua personalidade. O que sua família pensa dela, é de fundamental importância. Muitos muitas vezes apontam constantemente os pontos negativos da criança, suas falhas e defeitos, e esquecem-se de parabeniza-los diante de suas conquistas e qualidades. Isso pode levar a criança a sentir-se desvalorizada, e, em razão disso, comparar-se com as demais, sempre se vendo como alguém inferior, o que leva a prejuízos na vida pessoal e social da mesma. O presente artigo teve como objetivo principal investigar e analisar a função dos comportamentos apresentados na queixa familiar e escolar, e os objetivos específicos de compreender a baixa autoestima do paciente, identificar a encoprese vinculada a autoestima e abordar a importância familiar no processo terapêutico. Para isso, a formação de vínculo no processo terapêutico, além de os aspectos emocionais, as situações vivenciadas na prática e o processo psicoterapêutico
