“College students don’t have to be music majors to participate in [band]. Only about quarter of the membership in [band] are music majors; the rest are students majoring in a variety of academic subjects...These enthusiastic students choose [band] to play their instruments1,” Doris Valliant, author of Going to College , explains. To choose to be a part of the band program at a university may be about fulfilling one’s enjoyment of playing their instrument, but it is also about the service and important role they provide, influencing and impacting the university. La teoría de redes sociales

La teoría de redes sociales constituye un buen ejemplo de un tipo de aproximación en que, en teoría, aparato conceptual métodos y tècnicas de investigación han estado mútuamente sostenidos y generados. La perspectiva innovadora que aporta esta teoría es la relacional dentro de una vocación claramente estructural, es decir, aquella en que los vínculos o las relaciones entre entidades son unidades básicas de recogida de información y del anàlisis. En este artículo se hace una introducción general a la teoría de redes; más adelante, en otros números de la revista, se aportarán análisis empíricos.The theory of Social Networks is an approach where the theory, conceptual machinery, methods and research techniques are reciprocally supported. The new perspective that this theory introduces in Sociology is the relational one with a structural orientation, that is to say, that one where the links or relationships between entities are basic unities of getting information and of doing analysis. Las representaciones fácticas y cognitivas del relato de entrevistas biográficas : un análisis reticular del discurso

Este artículo trata de identificar y relacionar las dimensiones fácticas y cognitivas de un relato biográfico, entendido como una representación narrativa. El entrevistado construye su narración entreverando ambas dimensiones a lo largo del relato. Este artículo propone un método de análisis reticular del discurso como un procedimiento eficaz para poner de relieve y relacionar ambas dimensiones. A partir de teorías lingüísticas ad hoc y de la teoría de las Redes Sociales se enmarca, analiza y hace emerger el discurso del relato.This article tries to identify and to relate the factual to the cognitive dimensions of a biographical history understood as a narrative representation. It is constructed by the interviewed from the combination of both dimensions. This paper proposes reticular discourse analysis as an effective method for putting forward both dimensions in a related fashion. La unidad de análisis, sus agentes y contextos y los modos de interacción en los procesos de trabajo : un estudio de caso

Uno de los problemas que acompaña a toda investigación sociológica, y concretamente en lo que se refiere a los procesos de trabajo, consiste en identificar la unidad de análisis y sus contextos. Este artículo analiza dicha problemática a partir del estudio de caso del servicio de esterilización de un hospital. El objetivo consiste en proponer un modelo descriptivo que, primero, establezca los diferentes niveles implicados en los procesos sociales, y concretamente en los de trabajo; segundo, que identifique entre dichos niveles la unidad de análisis más pertinente, así como su contenido y sus fronteras, siempre flexibles, y, tercero, que identifique también, dentro de dichas unidades, los agentes internos y externos, poniendo en evidencia sus mecanismos y sus modos de intervención.One of the problems that accompanies all sociological research, especially the work processes, consists in identifying the unit of analysis and its contexts. This paper analyzes this problem from the case study of the sterilization service at a hospital. The objective of this paper is to propose a descriptive model that, first of all, establishes the different levels implied in the social and work processes; secondly, it identifies, among these levels, the most relevant unit of analysis as well as his content and flexible limits, and thirdly, it also identifies for this units the internal and external agents, showing his mechanisms and ways of intervention

La tipología en sociología, más allá de la simple taxonomía : conceptualización y cálculo

Los conceptos de tipología y tipo son de uso corriente en sociología. En esta primera entrega se trata, además, de resaltar la importancia metodológica que tal concepto posee, de delimitar su contenido y mostrar las diversas aplicaciones de esa utilización. Se presenta el concepto de tipología como superador de la mera taxonomía al situarlo posicionalmente en el campo de las dimensiones fundamentales de las variables. Finalmente, se insiste en la forma de construir los tipos concretos. En una segunda parte de un artículo futuro se ejemplificará en estudios concretos lo aquí desarrollado

La simulación social, ¿una nueva manera de investigar en ciencia social?

Este artículo ofrece un sucinto panorama de la simulación social, presentándola como un medio para modelar los procesos sociales y como un instrumento para la investigación social. En la introducción, se definen conceptos clave como modelo, modelo matemático, simulación social e inteligencia artificial social. En la segunda parte, se muestra la extensa variedad de modelos de inteligencia artificial social y sus aplicaciones, tanto a partir de la simulación clásica como en sus nuevas manifestaciones. Finalmente, se brindan algunas reflexiones de carácter más metodológico sobre la simulación social.This papers offers a brief review of the social simulation, which can he considered a way to model social processes, and also as an instrument for sociological research. Comparative Study of the Metallurgical Quality of Primary and Secondary AlSi10MnMg Aluminium Alloys

The use of secondary aluminium is increasingly being promoted in the automotive industry for environmental reasons. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate that it is possible to obtain a recycled AlSi10MnMg(Fe) aluminium alloy with equal metallurgical quality to that of a primary AlSi10MnMg alloy when an adequate melt treatment is applied. The melt treatment consisted of deoxidation, degassing and skimming in accordance with the detailed procedure described in this article. The metallurgical qualities of one primary and two secondary alloys were assessed using thermal analysis, the density index test, the macroinclusion test and the microinclusion level test before and after melt treatment. The thermal analysis allowed us to compare the variables of the solidification cooling curve (Al primary temperature and its undercooling; Al-Si eutectic temperature and its predictive modification rate). The density index test was used to evaluate the hydrogen gas content in the melt. The macroinclusion test was used to evaluate the melt cleanliness, while the microinclusion level test was used to perform the inclusion identification and quantification analyses. This study showed the feasibility of manufacturing structural components using 100% recycled secondary aluminium alloy through V-HPDC technology

El poder del ejemplo : un análisis reticular del rodaje de una escena cinematográfica

Este artículo se propone explicar el rodaje de una escena cinematográfica, definido como proceso de representación, integrado por agentes intencionales y recursos representacionales. En concreto, el análisis reticular da una representación externa de una red técnico-funcional, y explicita sus dimensiones de coordinación, sincronización y complejidad, en tanto que proceso productivo. Con relación a la perspectiva sociológica, en la que haremos una síntesis entre el marco conceptual propuesto y el material empírico recogido en el entorno, nos centraremos sobre todo en dos mecanismos de dominación. Estos configuran el rodaje como un intercambio de recursos dominados y dominantes, partiendo de una estructura de distribución desigual entre los agentes. En definitiva, se explora la utilidad de en análisis reticular para entender el desarrollo objetivo del rodaje cinematográfico , a la vez que se reivindica la necesidad de analizar las relaciones de poder presentes en todo proceso social.The present article explains the shooting of a single movie scene, defined as a process of representation, with intentional agents and representational resources. Network Analysis as presented gives us an external representation of a Technical and Functional network. Furthermore, three dimensions of the observed productive process are put forward: coordination, synchronization, and complexity. Two mechanisms of domination are extracted from the suggested synthesis between our theoretical framework and the empirical material gathered. Such mechanisms shape the filmmaking process as an exchange of dominated and dominant resources, given an unequal distribution structure. In all, Network Analysis is seen from a sociological perspective as useful, in order to understand the objective development of the filmmaking process. Nevertheless, it is claimed that power relations need to be analyzed further, as central elements in any social process

Modelos de flexibilidad del trabajo y tiempo productivo : estudio de caso

El contenido del artículo se centra en la influencia que la organización flexible del tiempo en las empresas tiene sobre sus trabajadores y extensivamente sobre la sociedad. El objetivo del mismo consiste en identificar la manera en que la organización productiva del tiempo influye e interactúa con el usos del tiempo en otros dominios de la vida social. Para ello se presentan tres modelos ideales de organización temporal contrastándolos con los datos empíricos queprovienen de un caso de estudio. El caso elegido muestra grandes diferencias en la organización de la producción y del tiempo de trabajo en sus secciones. De esta manera en posible relacionar los diferentes perfiles de trabajadores con las diferencias en sus estrategias de negociación temporal y con su organización y percepciones del tiempo social.__________________________________The article focuses on the influence of companies' flexible organisation of time on their workers and extensively on society. The objective is to identify bow the productive organisation of time influences and interacts with the use of time in other domains of social life. For attaining this objective three ideal models of organisation of time are presented, which are compared with the empirical data coining from a case study. The case choosen shows big differences in the organisation ofproduction and of working time in its sections. Thus it is possible relating the different profiles of workers with the differences in their strategies of time bargaining and with their organisation and perceptions of social time
