Arbitrary Orientations of Hamilton Cycles in Digraphs

    Get PDF
Let nn be sufficiently large and suppose that GG is a digraph on nn vertices where every vertex has in- and outdegree at least n/2n/2. We show that GG contains every orientation of a Hamilton cycle except, possibly, the antidirected one. The antidirected case was settled by DeBiasio and Molla, where the threshold is n/2+1n/2+1. Our result is best possible and improves on an approximate result by H\"aggkvist and Thomason.Comment: Final version, to appear in SIAM Journal Discrete Mathematics (SIDMA

Evaluation of adult education in vocational agriculture during 1952-53

General Introduction The Smith-Hughes Act that originally introduced vocational agriculture in 1917 contains the statement that the controlling purpose of such education shall be to fit for useful employment; that such education shall be of less than college grade be designated to meet the needs of persons ever fourteen years of age have entered upon or who are preparing to enter upon the work the fans or of the farm home. This provides the basis for acceptance by any teachers of vocational agriculture that teaching adults is part of their jobs. In Tennessee, interest has increased greatly in recent years but no study has been made to determine either the practices used in carrying out this part of the program or in establishing practices to be used. Statement of the Problem It was the purpose of this study to determine what practices are followed by Tennessee teachers of vocational agriculture in planning, conducting and evaluating educational programs for adult farmers in Tennessee and to evaluate those practices in light of criteria selected by the investigator from writings on the subject, discussion with people intimately acquainted with the work and his own judgment. Importance of the Study Since the study determined the practices teachers of vocational agriculture are presently using in their adult program, it willl emphasize the situation to supervisors of agricultural education. It also provides supervisors with a tool for improving adult education in vocational agriculture in Tennessee. Teacher educators will find material assistance in organizing courses in adult education both on the graduate and undergraduate levels for those who are preparing to teach vocational agriculture. Present teachers of vocational agriculture will be provided with a basis for setting up new adult programs or improving existing ones. Teachers in other fields will be able to use some of the same practices for organizing programs of adult education in their own field. Finally, study has value to the investigator in establishing a pattern for organizing future programs of adult education in vocational agriculture

World Rabies Day - a decade of raising awareness

    Get PDF
World Rabies Day was set up in 2007 to raise global awareness about rabies, to provide information on how to prevent the disease in at-risk communities and support advocacy for increased efforts in rabies control. It is held annually on September 28th, with events, media outreach and other initiatives carried out by individuals, professionals, organisations and governments from the local to the international level. The Global Alliance for Rabies Control coordinates World Rabies Day, amplifying the campaign's reach through the provision of a central event platform and resources to support events across the world, the promotion of messages through key rabies stakeholders, and the implementation of specific activities to highlight particular issues. Over the last decade, more than 1,700 registered events have been held across the world and shared with others in the global rabies community. Events in canine rabies endemic countries, particularly in Africa and Asia, have increased over time. Beyond the individual events, World Rabies Day has gained the support of governments and international agencies that recognise its value in supporting existing rabies control initiatives and advocating for improvements. As the rabies landscape has changed, World Rabies Day remains a general day of awareness but has also become an integral part of national, regional and global rabies elimination strategies. The global adoption of 2030 as the goal for the elimination of rabies as a public health threat has led to even greater opportunities for World Rabies Day to make a sustainable impact on rabies, by bringing the attention of policy makers and donors to the ongoing situation and elimination efforts in rabies-endemic countries

Difficulties in estimating the human burden of canine rabies

    Get PDF
Current passive surveillance data for canine rabies, particularly for the regions where the burden is highest, are inadequate for appropriate decision making on control efforts. Poor enforcement of existing legislation and poor implementation of international guidance reduce the effectiveness of surveillance systems, but another set of problems relates to the fact that canine rabies is an untreatable condition which affects very poor sectors of society. This results in an unknown, but potentially large proportion of rabies victims dying outside the health system, deaths that are unlikely to be recorded by surveillance systems based on health center records. This article critically evaluates the potential sources of information on the number of human deaths attributable to canine rabies, and how we might improve the estimates required to move towards the goal of global canine rabies elimination

COVID-19, Stay-at-Home Orders and Employment: Evidence from CPS Data

In this paper, we document the short-term impact of COVID-19 on labour market outcomes in Canada. Following a pre-analysis plan, we investigate the negative impact of the pandemic on unemployment, labour force participation, hours and wages in Canada. We find that COVID-19 had drastic negative effects on labour market outcomes, with the largest effects for younger, not married, and less educated workers. We investigate whether the economic consequences of this pandemic were larger for certain occupations. We then built indices for whether (1) workers are relatively more exposed to disease, (2) work with proximity to coworkers, (3) are essential workers, and (4) can easily work remotely. Our estimates suggest that the impact of the pandemic was significantly more severe for workers more exposed to disease and workers that work in proximity to coworkers, while the effects are significantly less severe for essential workers and workers that can work remotely.Last, we rely on a unique survey, the Canadian Perspective Survey, and show that reported mental health is significantly lower among the most affected workers during the pandemic. We also find that those who were absent form work because of COVID-19 are more concerned with meeting their financial obligations and with losing their job than those who remain working outside of home, while those who transition from working outside the home to from home are not as concerned with job loss

    Raytheon Cable Stability

    Get PDF
Stable Cable has been tasked by Raytheon to create a universal, modular, vibration resistant cable management system. This design report highlights the steps taken to research, conceptualize, evaluate, and construct a working version of our product. This cable management system must be seismic zone 4 compliant and provide a serviceable solution in a small footprint. To evaluate our product’s ability to perform Stable Cable completed a cost analysis, as well running various computer simulations on CAD, Computer Aided Design, models. An prototype was also assembled to provide real world vision into the size of the product and was load and vibrationally tested. The goal of product is create an easily manufactured cable management solution that can be applied to Raytheon projects in the future. The concept prototype was created after extensive market research in the fall semester and consisted of three main parts, two vertical and one horizontal piece. Both parts attached using the Electronic Industries Alliance, EIA, standard rack specifications. The vertical pieces are an L shape with repeating slotted elliptical holes. The horizontal piece is a U-shaped bracket with repeating semi-circles holes across its face. Three-dimensional CAD models were drawn using Solidworks and tested using simulation software in Abaqus. A cost analysis was also created to find how expensive the manufacturing costs would be and still be a competitive price
