The reform operated in the regime of civil appeals by the Decree-law 303/2007, from 24 August 2007, introduced a new basis for an extraordinary appeal for review. This paper states our views on the (in)conformity with EU law of the solution put forward by the Portuguese legislator in order to ensure, on the one hand, the legal certainty and, on the other hand, the validity (here entailed in the jurisprudence of the CJEU), by establishing for the extraordinary appeal for review a maximum preclusion time limit of five years from the moment the ruling under review is passed, in cases in which the decision was made by a court of last resort, that failed to fulfill its obligation to ask for a preliminary ruling

Discrete Dynamical Systems: A Brief Survey

    Get PDF
Dynamical system is a mathematical formalization for any fixed rule that is described in time dependent fashion. The time can be measured by either of the number systems - integers, real numbers, complex numbers. A discrete dynamical system is a dynamical system whose state evolves over a state space in discrete time steps according to a fixed rule. This brief survey paper is concerned with the part of the work done by José Sousa Ramos [2] and some of his research students. We present the general theory of discrete dynamical systems and present results from applications to geometry, graph theory and synchronization

The rising demand for new destinations, for different cultures and realities, the search for authentic heritage, and the need for real and genuine experiences is setting the course for the development of tourism in the future. A tourism destination where a strong image is associated with the cultural heritage can display forms of culture interpretation and communicate symbolisms that activate the minds of tourists awakening them to the historical and cultural specificities of territories. Coastal tourism in rural areas, as a diverse territory of peculiar features that combines sea culture and tradition with the simplicity and genuineness of the sparsely-populated territories can be strongly stimulated by a unique and transversal communication and interpretation culture, promoting a new image of the territory. The aim of this study is to understand how cultural tourism can contribute to the leveraging of development opportunities for this territory (rural coastal) based on new forms of governance and spatial planning, and whether these can contribute effectively to its development and to, consequently, reduce the effects of seasonality. The study that we intend to/will develop is based on the model of development of coastal tourism in rural areas proposed by Ramos (2014), which coupled with the knowledge and study of cultural heritage sites through questionnaires and interviews, can might respond to our question and serve as a valuable input to the knowledge and development of this type of tourism. Cultural heritage, as a center for the representation and promotion of cultures, allows for a richer human experience and an inspiring source of knowledge and perpetuation of traditions. It constitutes, in our view, a strong contribution to the development of the rural coastal territories.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

attractiveness and (re)construction of the territories – the case of cante alentejano

UID/ANT/04038/2013The use of cultural heritage is closely linked to an effort of conservation and valorisation, for its symbolism and importance in strengthening the sense of identity and collective memory. The recognition of the historical and cultural importance of intangible heritage and its legal protection through the convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage of UNESCO (2003), reinforces its classification and safeguarding. There is long since culture is one of the most important reasons for the visit of tourists to Portugal where the intangible cultural heritage is greatly appreciated, by the approach of “experiencing sensations and emotions” which provides the opportunity for authentic cultural exchange between visitors and the communities. In this framework, we intend to give as an example the Cante Alentejano (CA), distinguished on the 27th of November 2014 by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (ICH). The activation of the intangible cultural heritage of Cante Alentejano, is part of a Regional Entity’s Strategy of Tourism of Alentejo and Ribatejo (ERTAR)) and the operationalisation of the CA as a tourist product, results from the Diagnostic Study of the Strategic Plan for the Development of Cultural and Scenic Touring of Alentejo and Ribatejo (DTCPAR). In order to present some measures which enrich the valorization of the Cante Alentejano as a cultural tourism product, the methodology which was used included the direct observation of the phenomenon in different contexts and interviews with several relevant intervenients related with the CA. The results obtained on the CA, point to a favourable recognition to the safeguard of this intangible cultural heritage as a tourist product, improving local sustainable development and enhance the (re)construction of the territorry.publishersversionpublishe

The type of advertising appeals on consumer responses : a study on green advertising

    Get PDF
The present dissertation aims to understand the impact of the type of advertising appeals (high vs low visually emotional) on consumer responses (Attention to the advertisement, Likelihood of Purchase and Willingness to Pay) to green advertising. Additionally, the mediating role of type of emotions was tested in the relationship between the type of advertising appeals and consumers’ responses. Based on a review of the academic literature, an experimental study was conducted, and results show that consumer responses, especially attention to the advertisement, are more impacted when a high visually emotional advertisement is presented. Additionally, negative rather than positive emotions show to mediate the relationship between visually emotional advertising appeals and consumers’ attention to the advertisement, as well as, the likelihood of purchase a sustainable product, such as bamboo toothbrush.

The consultancy field in Europe: A comparative approach

    Get PDF
A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Management from the NOVA – School of Business and EconomicsThis paper analyses the European consultancy industry and its evolution during the last decade. The current situation of the European consulting industry is compared with its long-term development since the 1980s, as well as with some perspective on its future evolution. Former literature on the field suggested that consulting in Europe would become less diverse in the early twentieth century (“convergence hypothesis”) and dominated by global American firms (“Americanization hypothesis”). The main conclusions point in a different direction. The European consulting market still has much national diversity and there is not a clear convergence trend in the industry. On the contrary, there is evidence suggesting an increasing diversity between countries over the last decade. Finally, the “Americanization hypothesis” is not confirmed. The European firms increased their number among the largest consultancies operating in Europe
