    Novel substrate integrated waveguide filters and circuits

    The main work in this thesis is to explore novel microwave filters with more compact size and improved performance by taking advantage of new substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structures, such as the ridge substrate integrated waveguide, half mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) and SIW with complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs). This thesis therefore presents the following topics: 1. Development of a design strategy to convert from a conventional ridge waveguide configuration with solid walls to the SIW counterpart, and the design of a bandpass filter based on the ridge SIW with the proposed design method. 2. Development of a ridged HMSIW to reduce the physical size of the HMSIW by loading the HMSIW with a ridge, and application of the ridged HMSIW to the design of compact bandpass filters. 3. Development of a broadside-coupled complementary split ring resonator and a capacitively-loaded complementary single split ring resonator to reduce the size of SIW with conventional CSRRs, and application of the proposed modified structures in the design of SIW and HMSIW filters with improved compactness and performance. 4. Investigation of the application of the complementary electric-LC (CELC) resonator in SIW filters with improved stopband performance, and development of a cascaded CELC resonator to further enhance the out-of-band performance

    Risk Assessment of Nautical Navigational Environment Based on Grey Fixed Weight Cluster

    In order to set up a mathematical model suitable for nautical navigational environment risk evaluation and systematically master the navigational environment risk characteristics of the Qiongzhou Strait in a quantitative way, a risk assessment model with approach steps is set up based on the grey fixed weight cluster (GFWC). The evaluation index system is structured scientifically through both literature review and expert investigation. The relative weight of each index is designed to be obtained via fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP); Index membership degree of every grey class is proposed to be achieved by fuzzy statistics (FS) to avoid the difficulty of building whiten weight functions. By using the model, nautical navigational environment risk of the Qiongzhou Strait is determined at a “moderate” level according to the principle of maximum membership degree. The comprehensive risk evaluation of the Qiongzhou Strait nautical navigational environment can provide theoretical reference for implementing targeted risk control measures. It shows that the constructed GFWC risk assessment model as well as the presented steps are workable in case of incomplete information. The proposed strategy can excavate the collected experts’ knowledge mathematically, quantify the weight of each index and risk level, and finally lead to a comprehensive risk evaluation result. Besides, the adoptions of probability and statistic theory, fuzzy theory, aiming at solving the bottlenecks in case of uncertainty, will give the model a better adaptability and executability.</p

    LncRNA ZFAS1 contributes to osteosarcoma progression via miR-520b and miR-520e-mediated inhibition of RHOC signaling

    Objectives: We examined the expression of Lnc-ZFAS1 in osteosarcoma and comprehensively evaluated its effects on osteosarcoma in vitro and vivo. Moreover, we revealed the regulatory mechanism between Lnc-ZFAS1 and miR-520b/miR-520e-mediated RHOC and provided a novel clue for ameliorating osteosarcoma. Method: The expression of Long non-coding RNA Zinc Finger Antisense 1 (LncRNA ZFAS1) osteosarcoma tissues and normal tissues in the TCGA database was analyzed. Then, LncRNA ZFAS1 expression was further verified in clinical samples and osteosarcoma cell lines (U2OS and KHOS), as well as the human osteoblast cell line hFOB1.19 by qRT-PCR. Thereafter, LncRNA ZFAS1 was overexpressed or silenced to explore its effects on cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, and Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT). The fundamental mechanism through which Lnc-ZFAS1 affects osteosarcoma progression was further investigated and verified. Results: We found that LncRNA ZFAS1 was upregulated in osteosarcoma, and Lnc-ZFAS1 overexpression facilitated osteosarcoma cells proliferation, migration, invasion and EMT, while Lnc-ZFAS1 silence exerted reverse influence. Mechanistically, Lnc-ZFAS1 functionally acted as a sponger of microRNA-520b (miR-520b) and microRNA-520e (miR-520e) to up-regulate Ras Homologue C (RHOC). In addition, depleted Lnc-ZFAS1 restrained osteosarcoma cells proliferation, migration, and invasion, which could be rescued by RHOC overexpression. Lnc-ZFAS1 was upregulated in osteosarcoma and Lnc-ZFAS1 could exert promoted impact upon osteosarcoma cells proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT in vitro. Conclusions: Lnc-ZFAS1 acted sponger of miR-520b and miR-520e to promote RHOC, indicating that Lnc-ZFAS1/miR-520b/RHOC and Lnc-ZFAS1/miR-520e/RHOC axes might serve as potential therapeutic strategies against osteosarcoma

    Possible Roles of Membrane Trafficking Components for Lipid Droplet Dynamics in Higher Plants and Green Algae

    Lipid droplets are ubiquitous dynamic organelles that contain neutral lipids surrounded by a phospholipid monolayer. They can store and supply lipids for energy metabolism and membrane synthesis. In addition, protein transport and lipid exchange often occur between LDs and various organelles to control lipid homeostasis in response to multiple stress responses and cellular signaling. In recent years, multiple membrane trafficking proteins have been identified through LD proteomics and genetic analyses. These membrane trafficking machineries are emerging as critical regulators to function in different LD-organelle interactions, e.g., for LD dynamics, biogenesis and turnover. In this review, we will summarize recent advances in regard to LD-related membrane trafficking proteins and discuss future investigations in higher plants and green algae

    A simplified model for acoustic focalization in environments with seabed uncertainties

    Introduction: Parameter mismatch poses a challenge to source localization in cases involving environments with seabed uncertainties. By including environmental parameters in the search space, focalization can be used to estimate the location of the source using environmental information that is limited a priori. Methods: To reduce the number of parameters, a simplified seabed model is proposed here for such focalization. Only two geoacoustic parameters—the amplitude F and phase cF of reflection—are used to describe the seabed. Focalization is generally tested using genetic algorithms for the colored noise case (COLNOISE) benchmark problem. Results: The proposed simplified model can obtain the location of the source more easily than a layered model. Due to its advantage in terms of parameter sensitivity and inter-coupling, the simplified model can ensure the robustness of the results of inversion. The proposed method was tested on a broadband signal in the Asian Seas International Acoustics Experiment (ASIAEX2001), where both the location and the geoacoustic parameters were easily inverted. Discussion: The simplified model provides a sufficiently high acoustic resolution for focalization, and its reduction of the geoacoustic parameters helpes solve the problem of inversion

    Electron Bunch Train Excited Higher-Order Modes in a Superconducting RF Cavity

    Higher-order mode (HOM) based intra-cavity beam diagnostics has been proved effectively and conveniently in superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) accelerators. Our recent research shows that the beam harmonics in the bunch train excited HOM spectrum, which have much higher signal-to-noise ratio than the intrinsic HOM peaks, may also be useful for beam diagnostics.     Saturation of water reflectance in extremely turbid media based on field measurements, satellite data and bio-optical modelling

    International audienceEvidence of water reflectance saturation in extremely turbid media is highlighted based on both field measurements and satellite data corrected for atmospheric effects. This saturation is obvious in visible spectral bands, i.e., in the blue, green and even red spectral regions when the concentration of suspended particulate matter (SPM) reaches then exceeds 100 to 1000 g.m −3. The validity of several bio-optical semi-analytical models is assessed in the case of highly turbid waters, based on comparisons with outputs of the Hydrolight radiative transfer model. The most suitable models allow to reproduce the observed saturation and, by inversion, to retrieve information on the SPM mass-specific inherent optical properties
