    A parameterisable FPGA-tailored architecture for YOLOv3-Tiny

    Object detection is the task of detecting the position of objects in an image or video as well as their corresponding class. The current state of the art approach that achieves the highest performance (i.e. fps) without significant penalty in accuracy of detection is the YOLO framework, and more specifically its latest version YOLOv3. When embedded systems are targeted for deployment, YOLOv3-tiny, a lightweight version of YOLOv3, is usually adopted. The presented work is the first to implement a parameterised FPGA-tailored architecture specifically for YOLOv3-tiny. The architecture is optimised for latency-sensitive applications, and is able to be deployed in low-end devices with stringent resource constraints. Experiments demonstrate that when a low-end FPGA device is targeted, the proposed architecture achieves a 290x improvement in latency, compared to the hard core processor of the device, achieving at the same time a reduction in mAP of 2.5 pp (30.9% vs 33.4%) compared to the original model. The presented work opens the way for low-latency object detection on low-end FPGA devices

    Workplace status differences and proactive behaviours:The role of perceived insider status and promotion criterion

    Status difference is prevalent within working groups, profoundly influencing employees' perceptions and behaviours towards coworkers and their groups. Despite this ubiquity, exploring the effects of status difference within groups remains relatively underexamined. Drawing on social identity theory, this study examined how and when horizontal status difference (i.e., status comparison between a focal employee and his/her peers) and vertical status difference (i.e., status comparison between a focal employee and his/her leader) influence employees' perceived insider status and proactive behaviour. Results from 421 employees across 113 working groups indicated that horizontal status difference was positively related to perceived insider status, but vertical status difference had a curvilinear effect on perceived insider status. Furthermore, perceived insider status significantly mediated the impact of horizontal and vertical status differences on proactive behaviour. We also demonstrated that promotion criteria significantly moderated the relationship between horizontal status difference and perceived insider status; in particular, this relationship was stronger when organizations used a relative rather than an absolute promotion criterion

    Critical current of the Sr2RuO4-Sr3Ru2O7 eutectic system

    We report critical current measurements of the Sr2RuO4-Sr3Ru2O7 eutectic system, a solid mixture of the spin-triplet superconductor Sr2RuO4 and the nearly ferromagnetic metal Sr3Ru2O7. Our results reveal that this eutectic forms an unusual superconducting state with features distinct from those of the pure Sr2RuO4 phase. We observe a crossover from Ambegaokar-Baratoff to Ginzburg-Landau type behavior in the temperature dependence of the critical current, similar to the behavior of Josephson weak-link networks in granular highTc cuprates. Our results suggest that large regions of Sr3Ru2O7 in this solid mixture may become superconducting by an unusual proximity effect

    Simultaneous determination of flavonoids and triterpenoids in Cyclocarya paliurus leaves using high-performance liquid chromatography

    Background: Cyclocarya paliurus is an endangered plant and endemic to China. The leaves of C. paliurus have been used in drug formulations and as ingredients in functional foods in China. The aim of this study was to develop an effective method to extract most of the compounds and to establish a simplified HPLC analytical method to determine the contents of major bioactive compounds simultaneously.Materials and methods: High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with a photodiode array detector (PDA) was used for the simultaneous determination of the major flavonoids and triterpenoids in C. paliurus leaves.Results: Ultrasonic extraction in 100% methanol for 30 min was adopted as the optimal extraction method for C. paliurus leaves. The separation conditions were optimized using a Phenomenex C18 ODS column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) with a mobile phase of acetonitrile and 0.02% formic acid and a detection wavelength of 205 nm. The validation data indicated that this new HPLC analytical method successfully quantified the provenance and seasonal variations of seven major compounds (three flavonoids and four triterpenoids) in C. paliurus leaves.Conclusion: The study provided a novel and simplified approach to simultaneously determine the quantity of major flavonoids and triterpenoids in C. paliurus leaves. The results could promote the optimization of silvicultural systems for quality control of C. paliurus.Key words: Cyclocarya paliurus; HPLC; flavonoids; triterpenoid

    Growth of GaSb and GaInAsSb layers for thermophotovoltaic cells by liquid phase epitaxy

    GaSb based cells as receivers in thermophotovoltaic system have attracted great interest and been extensively studied in the recent 15 years. Although nowadays the manufacturing technologies have made a great progress, there are still some details need to make a further study. In this paper, undoped and doped GaSb layers were grown on n-GaSb (100) substrates from both Ga-rich and Sb-rich solutions using liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) technique. The nominal segregation coefficients k of intentional doped Zn were 1.4 and 8.8 determined from the two kinds of GaSb epitaxial layers. Additionally, compared with growing from Ga-rich solutions, the growing processes from Sb-rich solutions were much easier to control and the surface morphologies of epitaxial layers were smoother. Furthermore, in order to broaden the absorbing edge, Ga 1-xInxAsySb1-y quaternary alloys were grown on both GaSb and InAs substrates from In-rich solutions, under different temperature respectively
