The present study investigated the effect of graphic organizers and instructional scaffolding on argumentative writing performance among TESL undergraduates. The study employed a quasi-experimental research using the pre-test and post-test design involving 90 TESL undergraduates being placed equally in three different groups underwent lessons on argumentative essay writing using different delivery modes, modes comprising of four stages of learning for a duration of four weeks. During the intervention period, three small groups of TESL undergraduates from the GOIS and GONI delivery modes were video-recorded to investigate on how they communicate in their groups. After the intervention, a semi-structured interview was carried out. A total of 9 students (GOIS, n=3; GONI, n=3; NGNI, n=3) were interviewed and the interviews were audio-recorded. The one-way ANCOVA was used to analyse the argumentative writing performance among the TESL undergraduates. The percentages were used to compare the overall percentages of Comm between the GOIS and GONI delivery modes while the qualitative data from the semi-structured interview of the three delivery modes were analysed using the constant comparative approach. Results showed that the group which underwent the GOIS delivery mode performed significantly better in the overall argumentative essay writing performance (p<.05) compared to their counterparts in the GONI and NGNI delivery modes. Additionally, in terms of the overall frequency of conjunctions and overall frequency of argumentative elements, the results indicated that both the GOIS and GONI groups performed significantly better (p<.05) than the NGNI group. In terms of overall percentages of , the GONI group outperformed the GOIS group. The findings from the semi-structured interview revealed that the GOIS group experienced learning better compared to the GONI and NGNI groups. The research confirmed that the GOIS and GONI delivery modes are effective in enhancing argumentative writing performance among TESL undergraduates. In line with this, the research ends with a recommendation for educators to adopt these delivery modes in t argumentative writing skills are enhanced. (Abstract by Author

The quantity of test that is added to the web in the digital form continues to grow and the quest for tools that can process this huge amount of data to retrieve the data of our interest is an ongoing process. Moreover, observing these large volumes of data over a period of time is a tedious task for any human being. Text mining is very helpful in performing these kinds of tasks. Text mining is a process of observing patterns in the text data using sophisticated statistical measures both quantitatively and qualitatively. Using these text mining techniques and the power of the internet and its technologies, we have developed a tool that retrieves documents concerning topics of interest, which utilizes novel and sensitive classification tools.;This thesis presents an intelligent web crawler, named Intel-Crawl. This tool identifies web pages of interest without the user\u27s guidance or monitoring. Documents of interest are logged (by URL or file name). This package uses automatically generated semantic signatures to identify documents with content of interest. The tool also produces a vector that is a quantification of a document\u27s content based on the semantic signatures. This provides a rich and sensitive characterization of the document\u27s content. Documents are classified according to content and presented to the user for further analysis and investigation.;Intel-Crawl may be applied to any area of interest. It is likely to be very useful in areas such as law enforcement, intelligence gathering, and monitoring changes in web site contents over time. It is well-suited for scrutinizing the web activity of large collection of web pages pertaining to similar content. The utility of Intel-Crawl is demonstrated in various situations using different parameters and classification techniques

Recent infectious disease outbreaks, such as Ebola in 2013, highlight the need for fast and accurate diagnostic tools to combat the global spread of the disease. Detection and identification of the disease-causing viruses and bacteria at the genetic level is required for accurate diagnosis of the disease. Nucleic acid analysis systems have shown promise in identifying diseases such as HIV, anthrax, and Ebola in the past. Conventional nucleic acid analysis systems are still time consuming, and are not suitable for point-ofcare applications. Miniaturized nucleic acid systems has shown great promise for rapid analysis, but they have not been commercialized due to several factors such as footprint, complexity, portability, and power consumption. This dissertation presents the development of technologies and methods for a labon-a-chip nucleic acid analysis towards point-of-care applications. An oscillatory-flow PCR methodology in a thermal gradient is developed which provides real-time analysis of nucleic-acid samples. Oscillating flow PCR was performed in the microfluidic device under thermal gradient in 40 minutes. Reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) was achieved in the system without an additional heating element for incubation to perform reverse transcription step. A novel method is developed for the simultaneous pattering and bonding of all-glass microfluidic devices in a microwave oven. Glass microfluidic devices were fabricated in less than 4 minutes. Towards an integrated system for the detection of amplified products, a thermal sensing method is studied for the optimization of the sensor output. Calorimetric sensing method is characterized to identify design considerations and optimal parameters such as placement of the sensor, steady state response, and flow velocity for improved performance. An understanding of these developed technologies and methods will facilitate the development of lab-on-a-chip systems for point-of-care analysis

This makes it particularly attractive for high power applications. Collapsed H-conductor inverter (CHB) has a geometry designed from the H-conduction cell formation association. Enhanced pulse width balance strategies are equipped, for example, special symphonic terminal or special static modeling (SHM-PWM) of the waveform produced from the programmed symphonic profile Presets across a wide range of control files. These modulation strategies may not work well unless the DC connections in the CHB are modified. Present this Another SHM-PWM control method is equipped to satisfy the matrix codes in large part under unequal DC interface voltage. This method is based on breaking points of different groups obtained for clear non-horizontal positions. Reactivation and testing results are included to agree on the proposed control strategy

Three-dimensional photoelastic study of the load-carrying capacity/face width ratio of Wildhaber-Novikov gears for automotive applications

Wildhaber-Novikov gears are becoming more and more popular for heavy load applications. They have been tried as speed-reducing gears, in spite of heavy noise generation, in aircraft jet engines, marine engines and agricultural machinery. These circular-arc gears, though stronger than involute geras, have the disadvantage of needing larger face width. Axial face width required can be minimized only at the expense of load-carrying capacity. This is not a serious disadvantage with stationary engines. But in the case of automotive applications, this fact limits the load-carrying capacity of Wildhaber-Novikov gears, since space problem is very critical in these applications and large face widths, therefore, cannot be used for such gear-reduction units. The face width is determined by the helix angle and, therefore, a thorough investigation of the dependence of the load-carrying capacity on helix angle is necessary, if these special types of gears have to make headway into the automotive field. In this experimental investigation, three-dimensional photoelastic technique has been employed to study the load-carrying capacity/face width ratio. Three-dimensional gear models made of epoxy castings (Araldite B) were loaded in a specially built gear-loading fixture and were stress frozen. Gear cutters of Wildhaber-Novikov gears developed at the laboratory were used for the preparation of these three-dimensional gear models. The stress-frozen models were analyzed using the conventional slicing technique to study the contact and bending-stress distribution along the face width. The load-carrying capacity in terms of contact stress and bending stress has been studied for different face widths and helix angles. Twenty-deg pressure angle, 14-mm module gears of alladdendum type of Wildhaber-Novikov gears with different helix angles up to 40 deg were tested. The helical-overlap ratio used was 1.0. The conventional profile parameters were employed for the manufacture of gear cutters of end-mill type. The decrease in contact and bending strength with increase in the helix angle or decrease in the face width, as obtained from this photoelastic method of stress analysis has been compared with existing theoretical results. © 1977 Society for Experimental Mechanics, Inc

The device is used to convert wind energy into dual fuel injection (DFIG) and a gas bank is connected to a standard DC pathway to them. Photovoltaic (PV) electricity is used to convert solar energy, which is transferred to a conventional DFIG bus using a DC-DC boost converter at a cost-effective rate. The voltage and frequency are regulated by the uncontrolled vector control of the variable side line, which is combined below the characteristics. It changes the position of the set time based on the solid state of the stone, slowing down the feeding or discharging of the battery. The system can also be operated in the event that wind power is not available. Wind and Sun blocks have a high electrical conductivity test (MPPT) in their regulatory algorithm. The system is designed for fully automated processes to evaluate all beneficial conditions. The program is also available with a power source for the battery to operate without any additional need

The performance of the third phase of the inverter was measured using the MATLAB / Simulink software. To measure, pulses of inverter gates are made. A three-phase inverter device was implemented and test results were shown to be similar to those for measurement. Among all electric engines, import engines are the most widely used due to their reliability, low cost and power. Among the many import speed control methods, the V / f speed control method is widely used due to its simplicity. In this method, a continuous V / f ratio is maintained which maintains a constant magnetizing flux so that the maximum torque remains constant

Mannich Reactions of Carbohydrate Derivatives with Ketones To Afford Polyoxy-Functionalized Piperidines

Mannich reactions of carbohydrate derivatives with ketones that afford polyoxy-functionalized piperidines are reported. Ketone nucleophiles (enamines/enolates) were generated in the presence of the amines used for the formation of the iminium ions of sugar derivatives with or without an additive. Conditions to preferentially generate piperidine derivatives rather than tetrahydrofurans were identified. Products from the reactions of allyl ketones were readily transformed to bicyclic piperidines

Housetop photovoltaic panels are the focus areas for large areas of PV forms. The PV housing frame is generally integrated and increases the mesh load while increasing the battery. A strategic framework should ensure the full emission of generated energy and high transformational outcomes, and utilize appropriate assets to increase utilization efficiency. This paper proposes a single-phase PWM-controlled (SRF) modified electric motor (VSC) module to accommodate more power by storing non-compliant DC power without battery support, sinusoidal synchronous current of THD, Power forcing bound depending on the unused limit of the inverter. Photovoltaic power continues to be monitored in MPP by static conduction (IC) strategy

Morphological diversity of three Camellia (Theaceae) taxa conserved in an ex situ gene bank was studied and the importance of different descriptors in categorising accessions into distinct groups was also determined. Twelve accessions were characterised using 15 morphological descriptors of IPGRI guidelines. The results of principal component analysis (PCA) on morphological characters showed that the first two principal components accounted for 44.77 % of the total variance. In the evaluated quantitative characters, all three taxa had a coefficient of variation (CV) greater than 24.85%, and within the taxon the CV was greater than 9.59%. The qualitative characters showed a wide range of variations and yielded significant differences (p<0.05). Phenotypic data had high contributing component loadings from characters such as leaf area, weight of harvested shoots, stem colour, leaf pubescence and young shoot colour. Cluster analysis delineated the accessions into three groups. The implications of our results hold promise for assessing genetic diversity in germplasm collections, which is a prerequisite for their utilisation, effective management and crop improvement
