A new method for quantification of hepatobiliary scintigraphy using 99mTc-mebrofenin. A comparative study

A method based upon the application of mathematical techniques of deconvolution on the classical compartmental model for the quantitative study of liver function from hepatobiliary scintigraphy using 99mTc-mebrofenin data is proposed. The theory in which the method is based upon is presented and a comparison with a published methodology of obtaining the hepatic extraction after scintigraphic sudies has been performed using the results on 36 rats studies obtained with the two methods. A highly significant correlation between the two techniques was verified. The characteristics of the two methodologies, the proposed one based upon a theoretical approach and the other one on an empirical approximation are discussed. Comments are made on the interest and limitations of the presented technique that may be an useful tool for the evaluation of hepatic insufficiency

Using the Portuguese case to establish lines of differentiation

UID/CCI/04667/2016While a far from recent phenomenon, fake news has acquired a very special significance in the wake of the latest US elections. Against a broad background of different definitions and subtypes that require us to find a new, broader definition of the concept of fake news, the main debate about it concerns its scope and reach, which vary primarily in terms of intentionality and exactly how it disrupts the information process. With the discussion also focusing on the threats to (McChesney, 2014; Fisher, 2018) and opportunities for (Beckett, 2017) journalism itself, we seek to expand the debate on fake news to its impact on the dimension of trust in news. The starting point is Fletcher and Nielsen’s (2017) idea that, because they don’t make a clear distinction between real and fake news, Internet users feel a generalised sense of distrust in the media. Using data from the latest (2018) Reuters Digital News Report survey of a representative sample of the Portuguese Internet-using population, we describe the main reasons why the Portuguese (increasingly familiar with fake news and disinformation and their impacts) have been displaying higher levels of trust in news than counterparts in other countries, such as the United States –reasons that are linked to Portugal’s media system and historical context.publishersversionpublishe

Computer-controlled ion-selective electrode switch

The construction of a microcomputer-controlled electrode switch for use in potentiometric determinations is described. This can be coupled to most of the analytical equipment usually found in laboratories, to enable a setting up of automatic systems capable of performing sequential determinations with several ion-selective electrodes. Evaluation of the central activity of the ethanolic extract of Acosmium subelegans (Mohlenbr) in mice

The ethanolic extract (EE) of Acosmium subelegans (Mohlenbr) Yakovl (perobinha-do-campo) was tested to behavioral paradigms in mice to investigate its putative central depressant effect. Oral pretreatment with the EE significantly reduced in a dose-dependent way the locomotor activity and increased by 30-55% the barbiturate sleep duration relatively to control values. At the highest dose (1,0 g.kg-1) it decreased the extension time/flexion time ratio of the maximal electroshockinduced convulsions, enhanced the latency to the pentylenetetrazol-induced convulsions and diminished by 26% the number of seizures, indicating an anticonvulsant action. No changes were observed in the motor coordination, the core temperature, climbing behavior, catalepsy and the plus-maze performance. “O LUGAR DE MULHER É NO LAR. O TRABALHO FORA DE CASA MASCULINIZA”: UMA ANÁLISE DISCURSIVA DO LAR FEMININO NO JORNAL DAS MOÇAS NA DÉCADA DE 50

A pesquisa realizada investiga a construção discursiva da mulher associada ao lar na revista Jornal das Moças na década de 1950. Através do aparato teórico da Análise do Discurso de Linha Francesa (ADLF), que relaciona sujeito, história, ideologia e língua, analiso como se constrói a imagem da mulher submissa ao homem, relegada ao lar e responsável pela moral e manutenção dos bons costume e boa aparência social da família.A ADLF, surgida na década de 60, redireciona a concepção de discurso, considerando-o a materialização da ideologia. Michel Pêcheux (1969) situa os estudos do discurso entre três áreas do conhecimento: o materialismo histórico, como teoria das formações sociais e de suas transformações, compreendida aí a teoria das ideologias; a linguística como teoria dos mecanismos sintáticos e dos processos de enunciação ao mesmo tempo; a teoria do discurso, como teoria da determinação histórica dos processos semânticos. Tudo isso aliado ao princípio de inconsciente trazido da psicanálise e que constitui os sujeitos.Para Pêcheux, o discurso é “efeito de sentido entre os pontos A e B”, sendo A e B compreendidos como a projeção do lugar ocupado pelos sujeitos no discurso. O discurso é, assim, a materialização da ideologia através da linguagem. Dessa forma, é necessário compreender que o indivíduo é interpelado em sujeito pela ideologia. Assim, inconsciente e ideologia funcionam para produzir determinado discurso, a partir de uma posição dada, em uma conjuntura dada, isto é, numa certa relação de lugares no interior de um aparelho ideológico, e inscrita numa relação de classes.À luz da ADLF, analiso o periódico Jornal das Moças, que foi uma revista de circulação no Brasil entre 1914 e 1968. Destinada ao público feminino, a revista abordava temas considerados “de mulher” como moda, cozinha, decoração do lar, afazeres domésticos, casamento, costura, vida das celebridades, educação familiar entre outros assuntos.Utilizo também nas análises a contribuição de Louis Althusser e sua concepção de Aparelhos Ideológicos de Estado, essencial para compreender o funcionamento da ideologia e a difusão das ideias dominantes. Para o autor, cabe aos Aparelhos Ideológicos a difusão da ideologia dominante que funciona de modo a homogeneizar os sujeitos.Dito isto, não busco desvendar a materialidade discursiva da revista, no sentido de descobrir o que está por trás do discurso, ou o que este “quer dizer”, mas procuro evidenciar como se constrói a imagem discursiva da mulher no lar no corpus utilizado para análise

O Papel da leitura no ensino de língua estrangeira

The present essay discusses the process of foreign language literacy, understanding that the four skills must have space in LE teaching and learning, but focuses on reading and enlightenment. For the discussion about reading, we rely mainly on Freire (2009) and Leffa (2006); for discussions on approaches to this approach, we rely on Almeida Filho (2010), and seek relevant data in government documents on the subject, such as PCN, BNCC and LDBEN. In this new theoretical context, working with language as a process of interaction requires a redefinition of roles: the teacher is no longer seen as the exclusive agent of information and training of students and starts to act as mediator, having the role of polemizing, discussing, listening to the several voices, to challenge.O presente ensaio discute o processo de letramento em língua estrangeira, compreendendo que as quatro habilidades devem ter espaço assegurado no ensino-aprendizagem em LE, mas foca seu olhar na leitura e no enleituramento. Para a discussão sobre leitura, apoiamo-nos principalmente em Freire (2009) e Leffa (2006); para as discussões sobre abordagens para esse enfoque, apoiamo-nos em Almeida Filho (2010), além de buscar dados relevantes nos documentos governamentais sobre o assunto, tais como PCN, BNCC e LDBEN.
