    The Comparison of Metronidazole, Clindamycin, and Amoxicillin Againts Streptococcus sanguinis

      Introduction: Viridans streptococci group such as Streptococcus sanguinis (S. sanguinis), an anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria is a well-known for its involvement in dry socket (alveolar osteitis)-associated infection. Systemic amoxicillin, clindamycin and metronidazole have all been shown to be effective to inhibit this bacterium. However, there has been a lack of studies identifying which are the most effective amongst these antibiotics toward Streptococcus sanguinis.   Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of metronidazole, clindamycin, and amoxicillin in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus sanguinis in vitro.   Methods: This effectiveness was done by using agar well diffusion methods. S. sanguinis ATCC 10556 were cultured in Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) broth at 37°C under anaerobic condition. After 48h, bacterial cells were harvested and counted using microplate reader (490 nm) to achieve optical density of 0.25-0.30 (107 CFU/mL). Subsequently, 100 μL of bacterial suspension was cultured on BHI agar and each antibiotic suspension was added into each agar well, incubated for 72h at 37°C. The inhibition zone diameters were measured with electronic caliper. All experiments were done in triplicate, and repeated two times in separated occasions. The obtained data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA test. A  p<0.05 was considered as significance.   Result: The results showed that there was a significant difference in the effectiveness, clindamycin and amoxicillin in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus sanguinis (p<0.05), compared to metronidazole. The inhibition zone diameter with mean±SD (mm) are 13.50±2.0, 34.67±2.3 and 32.67±1.7 for metronidazole, clindamycin and amoxicillin, respectively.   Conclusion: Clindamycin and amoxicillin are more effective in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus sanguinis compared to metronidazole in this study. However, future studies are needed to confirm this result in vivo

    On Evaluation of Document Classification using RVL-CDIP

    The RVL-CDIP benchmark is widely used for measuring performance on the task of document classification. Despite its widespread use, we reveal several undesirable characteristics of the RVL-CDIP benchmark. These include (1) substantial amounts of label noise, which we estimate to be 8.1% (ranging between 1.6% to 16.9% per document category); (2) presence of many ambiguous or multi-label documents; (3) a large overlap between test and train splits, which can inflate model performance metrics; and (4) presence of sensitive personally-identifiable information like US Social Security numbers (SSNs). We argue that there is a risk in using RVL-CDIP for benchmarking document classifiers, as its limited scope, presence of errors (state-of-the-art models now achieve accuracy error rates that are within our estimated label error rate), and lack of diversity make it less than ideal for benchmarking. We further advocate for the creation of a new document classification benchmark, and provide recommendations for what characteristics such a resource should include.Comment: EACL 202

    The Effect of Identity Disclosure on Reliability and Efforts Provision in Online Review Systems

    As consumers rely on online customer reviews to assess the quality of products, firms often try to manipulate the reviews to attract consumers. If review sites fail to maintain reliability, firms are less likely to be motivated in improving quality of products. To alleviate fakery, online review providers have designed several identity disclosure mechanisms. The purpose of this research is to explore the role of identity disclosure on (1) reliability of online review systems and (2) subsequent efforts provision. We employ an incentive-aligned laboratory experiment based on a simple model of review systems. As theory of social pressure predicts, our results show that identity disclosure hurt the reliability of review systems, but not necessarily efforts provision. The current paper is a research in progress that aims to better understand the role of identity disclosure in online review systems

    The Internet of Things (IoT) is happening now. By implementing IoT, we can build smart home system. Smart home is an application that is a combination of technology and services that specialize in the home environment with specific functions aimed at improving the efficiency, comfort and security of the occupants. Smart homes filled with connected products are loaded with possibilities to make our lives easier, more convenient, and more comfortable. This intelligent home system uses a microcontroller to process functions that provided by smart home system, such functions as RFID for door access and PIR sensors for motion detection. By using Android users could control the sensors anytime and anywhere. Microcontroller used is Arduino IDE with WeMos D1R2 board. Based on the testing process, there was a successful communication between the components of the device, sensors, and Android devices. Users could open or close the solenoid, users can also turn off or turn on electronic devices using Android

    Evaluating the Evaluators: Which UDA validation methods are most effective? Can they be improved?

    This paper compares and ranks 8 UDA validation methods. Validators estimate model accuracy, which makes them an essential component of any UDA train-test pipeline. We rank these validators to indicate which of them are most useful for the purpose of selecting optimal model checkpoints and hyperparameters. To the best of our knowledge, this large-scale benchmark study is the first of its kind in the UDA field. In addition, we propose three new validators that outperform all the existing checkpoint-based validators that we were able to find in the existing literature.
