Intensity correlations and entanglement by frequency doubling in a dual ported resonator
We show that non-classical intensity correlations and quadrature entanglement
can be generated by frequency doubling in a resonator with two output ports. We
predict twin-beam intensity correlations 6 dB below the coherent state limit,
and that the product of the inference variances of the quadrature fluctuations
gives an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlation coefficient of V_EPR = 0.6 <
1. Comparison with an entanglement source based on combining two frequency
doublers with a beam splitter shows that the dual ported resonator provides
stronger entanglement at lower levels of individual beam squeezing.
Calculations are performed using a self-consistent propagation method that does
not invoke a mean field approximation. Results are given for physically
realistic parameters that account for the Gaussian shape of the intracavity

Free Form Lensing Implications for the Collision of Dark Matter and Gas in the Frontier Fields Cluster MACSJ0416.1-2403
We present a free form mass reconstruction of the massive lensing cluster
MACSJ0416.1-2403 using the latest Hubble Frontier Fields data. Our model
independent method finds that the extended lensing pattern is generated by two
elongated, closely projected clusters of similar mass. Our lens model
identifies new lensed images with which we improve the accuracy of the dark
matter distribution. We find that the bimodal mass distribution is nearly
coincident with the bimodal X-ray emission, but with the two dark matter peaks
lying closer together than the centroids of the X-ray emisison. We show this
can be achieved if the collision has occurred close to the plane and such that
the cores are deflected around each other. The projected mass profiles of both
clusters are well constrained because of the many interior lensed images,
leading to surprisingly flat mass profiles of both components in the region
15-100 kpc. We discuss the extent to which this may be generated by tidal
forces in our dynamical model which are large during an encounter of this type
as the cores "graze" each other. The relative velocity between the two cores is
estimated to be about 1200 km/s and mostly along the line of sight so that our
model is consistent with the relative redshift difference between the two cD

Puzzled out? The unsurprising outcomes of the Greek bailout negotiations
While to date the Eurozone debt crisis is one of the most important and consequential events in world politics of the twenty-first century, the actions taken by states to negotiate a cooperative resolution do not seem particularly puzzling. In this article, we employ the analytic explanation approach to process tracing to test whether the most protracted and high-profile case ā negotiations between creditors led by Germany, and Greece as debtor state ā indeed validate three central hypotheses of basic cooperation theory regarding the sources of bargaining strength. We conclude that while bargaining leverage did emerge primarily from the ability to withstand non-agreement, the weaker Greece was able to achieve marginal concessions reflecting terms that departed from Germanyās initial win-set. This leverage stemmed however not from a threat based on domestic political constraints, but from the realization that Greeceās structural economic weakness rendered the strictest austerity measures untenable. The policy implication is that the credibility of the weaker sideās negotiating signal arose not from domestic politics, but the impartial assessments of international technocrats and private rating agencies
Enhancement of plasticity in Ti-based metallic glass matrix composites by controlling characteristic and volume fraction of primary phase
In this study, Ti-based metallic glass matrix composites with high plasticity have been developed by controlling characteristic and volume fraction of primary phase embedded in the glass matrix. By careful alloy design procedure, the compositions of Ć/glass phases, which are in metastable equilibrium have been properly selected, therefore the mechanical properties can be tailored by selecting the alloy compositions between the composition of Ć and glass phases. The relation between the compressive yield strength and volume fraction of Ć phase is well described using the rule of mixtures
Optical studies of carrier and phonon dynamics in Ga_{1-x}Mn_{x}As
We present a time-resolved optical study of the dynamics of carriers and
phonons in Ga_{1-x}Mn_{x}As layers for a series of Mn and hole concentrations.
While band filling is the dominant effect in transient optical absorption in
low-temperature-grown (LT) GaAs, band gap renormalization effects become
important with increasing Mn concentration in Ga_{1-x}Mn_{x}As, as inferred
from the sign of the absorption change. We also report direct observation on
lattice vibrations in Ga1-xMnxAs layers via reflective electro-optic sampling
technique. The data show increasingly fast dephasing of LO phonon oscillations
for samples with increasing Mn and hole concentration, which can be understood

New explicit spike solution -- non-local component of the generalized Mixmaster attractor
By applying a standard solution-generating transformation to an arbitrary
vacuum Bianchi type II solution, one generates a new solution with spikes
commonly observed in numerical simulations. It is conjectured that the spike

Screening nuclear field fluctuations in quantum dots for indistinguishable photon generation
A semiconductor quantum dot can generate highly coherent and
indistinguishable single photons. However, intrinsic semiconductor dephasing
mechanisms can reduce the visibility of two-photon interference. For an
electron in a quantum dot, a fundamental dephasing process is the hyperfine
interaction with the nuclear spin bath. Here we directly probe the consequence
of the fluctuating nuclear spins on the elastic and inelastic scattered photon
spectra from a resident electron in a single dot. We find the nuclear spin
fluctuations lead to detuned Raman scattered photons which are distinguishable
from both the elastic and incoherent components of the resonance fluorescence.
This significantly reduces two-photon interference visibility. However, we
demonstrate successful screening of the nuclear spin noise which enables the
generation of coherent single photons that exhibit high visibility two-photon

Population-scale organization of cerebellar granule neuron signaling during a visuomotor behavior.
Granule cells at the input layer of the cerebellum comprise over half the neurons in the human brain and are thought to be critical for learning. However, little is known about granule neuron signaling at the population scale during behavior. We used calcium imaging in awake zebrafish during optokinetic behavior to record transgenically identified granule neurons throughout a cerebellar population. A significant fraction of the population was responsive at any given time. In contrast to core precerebellar populations, granule neuron responses were relatively heterogeneous, with variation in the degree of rectification and the balance of positive versus negative changes in activity. Functional correlations were strongest for nearby cells, with weak spatial gradients in the degree of rectification and the average sign of response. These data open a new window upon cerebellar function and suggest granule layer signals represent elementary building blocks under-represented in core sensorimotor pathways, thereby enabling the construction of novel patterns of activity for learning
