    Does Fundamental Analysis Lead to a Rudimentary Momentum Strategy for the Inexperienced Investor? Evidence from a Student Investment Fund

    Using the Student Investment Fund at Claremont McKenna College as a proxy for inexperienced investors, I demonstrate that inexperienced investors using fundamental analysis produce momentum-like buying patterns. The results show that the Student Investment Fund is on average buying stocks that outperform Carhart’s four-factor asset pricing model in the year before purchase. As a result, the Student Investment Fund has, on average, underperformed the S&P500 by .48% per year since 1996. My thesis explores why the Student Investment Fund may have adopted momentum-like purchasing patterns and what steps can be taken to remedy it

    [FIRST PARAGRAPH] Hemp (Cannabissativa L.)— whose origins as a domesticated plant probably lie in C.Asia — has been cultivated in England since at least a.d.800 (and before this perhaps in the Roman Period), mainly for its ¿bre, which was used to make sails, ropes, ¿shing nets and clothes, as well as for the oil from hempseed. Hemp cultivation may have reached a peak during the early 16th century, when Henry VIII decreed that increased hemp production was required to supply the expanding navy. Evidence for the locations where the crop was cultivated and processed is available in several different forms, including written evidence in parish records and government reports, place-name evidence (e.g.Hempholme and some instances of Hempstead), and features on old maps, such as Hempis¿eld (hemp¿eld)

    Top Compositeness at the Tevatron and LHC

    We explore the possibility that the right-handed top quark is composite. We examine the consequences that compositeness would have on ttˉt \bar{t} production at the Tevatron, and derive a weak constraint on the scale of compositeness of order a few hundred GeV from the ttˉt \bar{t} inclusive cross section. More detailed studies of differential properties of ttˉt \bar{t} production could potentially improve this limit. We find that a composite top can result in an enhancement of the ttˉttˉt \bar{t} t \bar{t} production rate at the LHC (of as much as 10310^3 compared to the Standatd Model four top rate). We explore observables which allow us to extract the four top rate from the backgrounds, and show that the LHC can either discover or constrain top compositeness for wide ranges of parameter space.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
