Data Breach Notification: Issues and Challenges for Security Management

    Get PDF
Several high-profile personal data breaches have triggered a discussion among privacy advocates, security practitioners, corporate managers and politicians on what role regulation should play in how companies and organisations protect data. The self-regulation paradigm fails to reinforce individuals’ right to information and foster proactive risk management as incident-related information is communicated informally and on a voluntary basis. Lately (April 2016) the European Parliament adopted a reformed General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which regulates data breach notification. This paper analyzes the current status in information security incident management, describes the data breach notification mandate introduced by the GDPR and discusses its impact on the accountability and transparency of organisations, the amplification of the security function in organisations and the security market and the reinforcement of situational awareness. This paper also identifies enablers and barriers to compliance and highlights the key challenges that governments and organisations need to address for effective incident management, in the context of the new regulation paradigm

The results showed the strengthening of physical exercise, healthy eating and assertive behaviors by participants, as well as greater emphasis on beliefs about the benefits of health-promoting behaviors. The intervention was useful to maximize healthy habits, although it has larger effects to sensitize and maintain than to change behaviors

Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) oil stability: Study of the effect of natural antioxidants

    Get PDF
The chia seed (Salvia hispanica L.) is globally popular and valued for its nutritional and health attributes. Chia oil is mainly composed of triglycerides, in which polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs, linoleic and α-linolenic acids) are found in high amounts. Although it seems evident that such fatty acid composition is favorable from a nutritional point of view, a higher content of linoleic and linolenic acids results in poorer oxidative stability and shorter shelf life of the oil. The aim of this study was to evaluate the combined effects of the storage condition (300 days under fluorescent light - 800 Lux - or in the dark, both at room temperature) with the addition of natural antioxidants (rosemary extract, RE; tocopherol, TOC; ascorbyl palmitate, AP). In the dark, the combined addition of AP and TOC significantly reduced lipid oxidation and improved oil shelf life. Moreover, this combination maintained an acceptable quality of at least up to 300 storage days. Results from this work highlight the influence of illumination condition on chia oil oxidative stability, suggesting that this oil should be stored in containers with light-barrier properties, and probably added to the antioxidants examined in the current study.Fil: Bodoira, Romina Mariana. OBJECTIVE: To develop, implement and validate a framework and protocol directed to pharmacists regarding prescription of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NS AIDs) and to propose a documentation system to be used when prescribing NS AIDs. METHOD: A module highlighting the information on NS AID use and on pharmacists prescribing of NS AIDs was developed to be used as a tool for development of pharmacists’ knowledge to participate in the framework of pharmacist prescribing of NS AIDs. A protocol to be used when prescribing NS AIDs was developed. The developed protocol is concise and includes all relevant data. Evaluation of the proposed module and protocol was carried out by an expert panel consisting of 14 professionals. The readability of the module was assessed. A documentation system was set up using Microsoft Excel® 2007. KEY FINDINGS: A module named ‘Supplementary Prescribing for Pharmacists’ was developed as a Power point Presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint® 2007. The final version of the module scored 55 in the Flesch Reading Ease formula. The expert panel rated the overall presentation as very good. The module was considered a good tool of information for its intended purpose. Eleven healthcare professionals found the module very helpful and 7 found it very practical for its intended use. A protocol named: ‘Protocol for Prescribing NS AIDs’ was developed. Twelve health care professionals found the protocol easy to use while 5 of the participants thought it was time consuming. CONCLUSION: The module and protocol were very well accepted by the expert panel. Up till now there was a lack of protocols regarding NS AID use in Malta and that some potential side effects pertaining to this class of drugs were not always taken into consideration while dispensing. This study is now proposing a module to establish a safe and standard practice for recommendation of use of NS AIDs.peer-reviewe

OBJECTIVES: To develop a ‘Patient Monitoring Tool’ (PMT) to evaluate the quality of pharmaceutical care provided to patients in a psychiatric setting and to determine benefits of ward-based pharmacist services in this setting. METHOD: A PMT consisting of ‘Patient Monitoring Guidelines’ (PMG) and a ‘Pharmaceutical Care Issues Documentation Sheet’ (PCIDS) was developed. The tool was tested for validity, applicability, practicality and reliability and used to monitor 30 patients in an acute psychiatric ward. The PMT was implemented and evaluation was carried out after 4 weeks using a self-administered evaluation questionnaire. KEY FINDINGS: The developed PMT was found to be valid, applicable, practical and reliable for use in the psychiatric setting. A total of 75 pharmaceutical care issues (PCIs) were identified; 55 involved psychotropic medications. A positive evaluation of the tool was obtained. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that the proposed tool can be implemented in an acute psychiatric setting and patient monitoring may lead to optimisation of patient care. Pharmacist incorporation into the multidisciplinary healthcare team and direct patient involvement may further enhance the value of such services.peer-reviewe

Ab inbev equity research report - impact of a challenging environment on the valuation of the beer market leader

    Get PDF
This report is part of an Equity Research Report for AB InBev. First, a BUY recommendation for investors is given. The optimistic view on AB InBev is mainly based on its deleveraging strategy in order to return to a sustainable capital structure of Net Debt/Equity of 118.00% (pre-SABMiller acquisition level). Further, the shareholders’ return is driven by addressing the main beer market trends (premiumization, preference shifting, legalization of cannabis) through the expansion in to growing segments. The market leader is expected to benefit from the global trends by focusing on premium brands and expanding into new categories such as craft beer. AB InBev’s business in its different regions is analyzed and forecasted based on the drivers for the specific markets

Facebook: Reconstructing Communication And Decostructing Privacy Law?

    Get PDF
The exponential growth of Facebook during the last year, was followed by a vital public discourse and often an alert with regard to the impacts of this popular SNS on communicational and behavioural attitudes and users’ rights. In this Paper we focus on privacy issues relating to Facebook. We attempt to define the “phenomenon Facebook” as a social and communicational ecosystem in the context of Web 2.0. In this perspective we discuss the trust relationships evolved in the Facebook communities to the extent that they affect the perceptions and expectations of privacy. We refer to the privacy issues, focusing on shortcomings of the Facebook privacy policy and practices, on regulatory responses and the problems relating to consent and contract as privacy gatekeepers in SNSs. Finally, we try to identify how SNSs and Facebook pose new challenges to privacy and data protection law

Understanding Industry’s Expectations of Engineering Communication Skills

    Get PDF
The importance of communication in the engineering profession is widely acknowledged by various stakeholders, including industry, academia, professional engineers, and engineering students. Even though alternative strategies to help students improve their ability to communicate professionally have been approached by many engineering programs across the country, research indicates a continued dissatisfaction of employers when it comes to the performance of engineers as communicators in the workplace. This perspective suggests efforts to improve students’ communication skills in universities may be inconsistent with workplace needs, revealing an apparent gap between what is taught and what is expected from engineering professionals. This gap provides an opportunity for additional research to identify the specific communication competencies required for engineers to succeed in the workplace. Particularly, the requirements of industry concerning engineers’ communication skills need to be understood more deeply, so that new educational interventions may be carefully tailored according to employers’ expectations and that both communication and engineering faculty can revisit their strategies to teach students to become better communicators. In order to obtain a deeper understanding of industry’s expectations concerning engineering communication skills, a qualitative research study was implemented to provide a detailed description of the communication skills practicing engineers need while working in industry. The exclusive focus on industry was pursued through the development of case studies. Four industrial segments (High-Tech, Automotive, Aerospace, and Manufacturing) that employ a significant percentage of engineers in the U.S. were selected. Engineers in leadership positions from each of the selected industrial segments participated in in-depth interviews and discussed about the expected engineering communication skills in industry. The results revealed that: 1) oral communication is prevalent in the engineering profession; 2) engineers need to tailor their messages to multiple audiences and to select the most appropriate type of communication medium; 3) written communication is expected to be clear, concise, and precise; 4) global communication is an increasingly demanded requirement in industry

Topological Space Partition for Fast Ray Tracing in Architectural Models

    No full text
International audienceFast ray-tracing requires an efficient acceleration structure. For architectural environment, the most famous is the cells-and-portals one. Many previous works attempt to automatically construct a good cells-and-portals. We propose a new acceleration structure which extends the classical cells-and-portals. It is automatically extracted from the topological model of a given building. It contains a low number of large volumes, all of them linked into a graph model. The scan of our structure is particularly simple and rapid, using all the topological information available from the topological model. The scan can be done for a single ray, or a wide ray packet. We show in this paper that our structure allows an interactive rendering even for large building models, with direct lighting from some thousands of point lights

    Visualisation interactive de grands bâtiments

    No full text
