    No full text
Technetium nitrides with various ideal stoichiometries have been investigated with the first-principle method at the pressures between 0–60 GPa. It have been found that there could be many stable technetium nitrides including Tc₃N, Tc₂N, TcN, Tc₂N₃, TcN₂, TcN₃, and TcN₄, among which Tc₃N and Tc₂N sub-nitrides are synthesizable at zero pressure and could be applied to nuclear waste management, such as separate radioactive 99Tc from nuclear fuel cycle. Moreover, N-rich TcN₃ and TcN₄ exhibit remarkable bulk properties and can be potential ultrastiff and hard materials. Objective classification of fabric pilling based on the two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform

A number of methods for automated objective ratings of fabric pilling based on image analysis are described in the literature. The periodic structure of fabrics makes them suitable candidates for frequency domain analysis. We propose a new method of frequency domain analysis based on the two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform to objectively measure pilling intensity in sample images. We present a preliminary evaluation of the proposed method based on analysis of two series of standard pilling evaluation test images. The initial results suggest that the proposed method is feasible, and that the ability of the method to discriminate between levels of pilling intensity depends on the wavelet analysis scale being closely matched to the fabric interyarn pitch. We also present a heuristic method for optimal selection of an analysis wavelet and associated analysis scale. <br /

System-size dependence of the pion freeze-out volume as a potential signature for the phase transition to a Quark Gluon Plasma

Hanburry-Brown-Twiss (HBT) correlation functions and radii of negatively charged pions from C+C, Si+Si, Cu+Cu, and In+In at lower RHIC/SPS energies are calculated with the UrQMD transport model and the CRAB analyzing program. We find a minimum in the excitation function of the pion freeze-out volume at low transverse momenta and around Elab2030AE_{lab}\sim 20-30AGeV which can be related to the transition from hadronic to string matter (which might be interpreted as a pre-cursor of the QGP). The existence of the minimum is explained by the competition of two mechanisms of the particle production, resonance decays and string formation/fragmentation.Comment: 12 pages, 4 fig

    Bi 2 (Li 0.5 Ta 1.5 )O 7 + xBi 2 O 3 (x = 0, 0.01 and 0.02) ceramics were prepared using a solid state reaction method. All compositions were crystallized in a single Bi 2 (Li 0.5 Ta 1.5 )O 7 phase without secondary peaks in X-ray diffraction patterns. Bi 2 (Li 0.5 Ta 1.5 )O 7 ceramics were densified at 1025 °C with a permittivity (ϵ r ) of ∼ 65.1, Q f ∼ 15500 GHz (Q ∼ microwave quality factor; f ∼ resonant frequency; 16780 GHz when annealed in O 2 ) and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (TCF) was ∼ -17.5 ppm °C -1 . The sintering temperature was lowered to ∼920 °C by the addition of 2 mol% excess Bi 2 O 3 (ϵ r ∼ 64.1, a Q f ∼ 11200 GHz/11650 GHz when annealed in O 2 and at a TCF of ∼ -19 ppm °C -1 ) with compositions chemically compatible with Ag electrodes. Bi 2 (Li 0.5 Ta 1.5 )O 7 + xBi 2 O 3 are ideal for application as dielectric resonators in 5G mobile base station technology for which ceramics with 60 < ϵ r < 70, high Q f and close to zero TCF are commercially unavailable. They may additionally prove to be useful as high ϵ r and high Q f materials in low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology

    Fractional Langevin equation

We investigate fractional Brownian motion with a microscopic random-matrix model and introduce a fractional Langevin equation. We use the latter to study both sub- and superdiffusion of a free particle coupled to a fractal heat bath. We further compare fractional Brownian motion with the fractal time process. The respective mean-square displacements of these two forms of anomalous diffusion exhibit the same power-law behavior. Here we show that their lowest moments are actually all identical, except the second moment of the velocity. This provides a simple criterion which enables to distinguish these two non-Markovian processes.Comment: 4 page

Longitudinal broadening of near side jets due to parton cascade

Longitudinal broadening along Δη\Delta\eta direction on near side in two-dimensional (Δϕ×Δη\Delta\phi \times \Delta\eta) di-hadron correlation distribution has been studied for central Au+Au collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV, within a dynamical multi-phase transport model. It was found that the longitudinal broadening is generated by a longitudinal flow induced by strong parton cascade in central Au+Au collisions, in comparison with p+p collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV. The longitudinal broadening may shed light on the information about strongly interacting partonic matter at RHIC.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; accepted by Eur. Phys. J.

Electronic symptom monitoring in pediatric patients hospitalized for chemotherapy

Background: Using patient-reported outcomes for symptom monitoring in oncology has resulted in significant benefits for adult patients with cancer. The feasibility of this approach has not been established in the routine care of children with cancer. Methods: The Pediatric Patient-Reported Outcomes version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (Ped-PRO-CTCAE) is an item library that enables children and caregivers to self-report symptoms. Ten symptom items from the Ped-PRO-CTCAE were uploaded to an online platform. Patients at least 7 years old and their caregivers were prompted by text/email message to electronically self-report daily during a planned hospitalization for chemotherapy administration. Symptom reports were emailed to the clinical team caring for the patient, but no instructions were given regarding the use of this information. Rates of patient participation and clinician responses to reports were systematically tracked. Results: The median age of the participating patients (n = 52) was 11 years (range, 7-18 years). All patients and caregivers completed an initial login, with 92% of dyads completing at least 1 additional symptom assessment during hospitalization (median, 3 assessments; range, 0-40). Eighty-one percent of participating dyads submitted symptom reports on at least half of hospital days, and 54% submitted reports on all hospital days. Clinical actions were taken in response to symptom reports 21% of the time. Most patients felt that the system was easy (73%) and important (79%). Most clinicians found symptom reports easy to understand and useful (97%). Conclusions: Symptom monitoring using patient-reported outcome measures for hospitalized pediatric oncology patients is feasible and generates data valued by clinicians and patients

On the fourth-order accurate compact ADI scheme for solving the unsteady Nonlinear Coupled Burgers' Equations

The two-dimensional unsteady coupled Burgers' equations with moderate to severe gradients, are solved numerically using higher-order accurate finite difference schemes; namely the fourth-order accurate compact ADI scheme, and the fourth-order accurate Du Fort Frankel scheme. The question of numerical stability and convergence are presented. Comparisons are made between the present schemes in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency for solving problems with severe internal and boundary gradients. The present study shows that the fourth-order compact ADI scheme is stable and efficient
