Magnetization reversal in mesoscopic Ni80Fe20 wires: A magnetic domain launching device
The magnetization reversal process in mesoscopic permalloy (Ni80Fe20) wire structures has been investigated using scanning Kerr microscopy, magnetic force microscopy (MFM) and micromagnetic calculations. We find that the junction offers a site for reversed domain wall nucleation in the narrow part of the wires. As a consequence, the switching field is dominated by the domain nucleation field and the junction region initiates reversal by the wall motion following the nucleation of domains. Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay and CP Violation
We study the relation between the Majorana neutrino mass matrices and the
neutrinoless double beta decay when CP is not conserved. We give an explicit
form of the decay rate in terms of a rephasing invariant quantity and
demonstrate that in the presence of CP violation it is impossible to have
vanishing neutrinoless double beta decay in the case of two neutrino
generations (or when the third generation leptons do not mix with other leptons

Broadening of band-gap in photonic crystals with optically saturated media
Due to strong absorption of the incident light, the media with high
refractive index are considered restrictive for applications in photonic
crystals (PhCs). The possibility to resolve this problem by optical saturation
effectively minimizing the absorption of the PhC medium is discussed. Such
approach might be promising for the significant broadening of the photonic

A framework for bounding nonlocality of state discrimination
We consider the class of protocols that can be implemented by local quantum
operations and classical communication (LOCC) between two parties. In
particular, we focus on the task of discriminating a known set of quantum
states by LOCC. Building on the work in the paper "Quantum nonlocality without
entanglement" [BDF+99], we provide a framework for bounding the amount of
nonlocality in a given set of bipartite quantum states in terms of a lower
bound on the probability of error in any LOCC discrimination protocol. We apply
our framework to an orthonormal product basis known as the domino states and
obtain an alternative and simplified proof that quantifies its nonlocality. We
generalize this result for similar bases in larger dimensions, as well as the

Searching for Anomalous Higgs Couplings in Peripheral Heavy Ion Collisions at the LHC
We investigate the sensitivity of the heavy ion mode of the LHC to anomalous
Higgs boson couplings to photons, H-photon-photon, through the analysis of the
processes photon photon to b anti-b and photon photon to photon photon in
peripheral heavy ion collisions. We suggest cuts to improve the signal over
background ratio and determine the capability of LHC to impose bounds on

Top-quark spin correlation at Linear Colliders with anomalous couplings
We investigate the feasibility of probing anomalous top-quark couplings of
, , and in terms of an effective
Lagrangian with dimension-six operators at future linear colliders
with a c. m. energy GeV. We first examine the
constraints on these anomalous couplings from the data at LEP
I and from unitarity considerations. We then consider in detail the effects of
anomalous couplings on spin correlations in the top-pair production
and decay with three spin bases: the helicity, beamline and off-diagonal bases.
Our results show that the polarized beams are more suitable for exploring the
effects of different new operators. For polarized beams, the helicity basis

Moment-To-moment affective dynamics in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
Background: Affective disturbances in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder may represent a transdiagnostic etiological process as well as a target of intervention. Hypotheses on similarities and differences in various parameters of affective dynamics (intensity, successive/acute changes, variability, and reactivity to stress) between the two disorders were tested.Methods: Experience sampling method was used to assess dynamics of positive and negative affect, 10 times a day over 6 consecutive days. Patients with schizophrenia (n = 46) and patients with bipolar disorder (n = 46) were compared against age-matched healthy controls (n = 46).Results: Compared to controls, the schizophrenia group had significantly more intense momentary negative affect, a lower likelihood of acute changes in positive affect, and reduced within-person variability of positive affect. The bipolar disorder group was not significantly different from either the schizophrenia group or the healthy control group on any affect indexes. Within the schizophrenia group, level of depression was associated with weaker reactivity to stress for negative affect. Within the bipolar disorder group, level of depression was associated with lower positive affect.Conclusions: Patients with schizophrenia endured a more stable and negative affective state than healthy individuals, and were less likely to be uplifted in response to happenings in daily life. There is little evidence that these affective constructs characterize the psychopathology of bipolar disorder; such investigation may have been limited by the heterogeneity within group. Our findings supported the clinical importance of assessing multiple facets of affective dynamics beyond the mean levels of intensity.</p
Extrinsic CPT Violation in Neutrino Oscillations in Matter
We investigate matter-induced (or extrinsic) CPT violation effects in
neutrino oscillations in matter. Especially, we present approximate analytical
formulas for the CPT-violating probability differences for three flavor
neutrino oscillations in matter with an arbitrary matter density profile. Note
that we assume that the CPT invariance theorem holds, which means that the CPT
violation effects arise entirely because of the presence of matter. As special
cases of matter density profiles, we consider constant and step-function matter
density profiles, which are relevant for neutrino oscillation physics in
accelerator and reactor long baseline experiments as well as neutrino
factories. Finally, the implications of extrinsic CPT violation on neutrino
oscillations in matter for several past, present, and future long baseline
