The influence of utilising government initiatives, servicing foreign MNCs and internationalisation on strategic planning process of local companies in Singapore
This research focuses on two groups of local companies; namely, high-growth local companies and other local companies, to examine and compare the influence of utilising governmental initiatives, servicing foreign MNCs and internationalisation on their strategic planning process. The theme of this thesis argues that the approach of an organisation towards strategic planning is not only determined by the internal influences; namely, its firm size and the planning behaviour and attitude of an entrepreneur, as revealed in the literature, but it can also be affected by external influences. The theoretical contribution of this research determines this unique situation in Singapore, and tests the robustness of the conventional models of planning in smaller companies. As a result of the external influences, this study reveals that local companies are more likely to undertake a much more formal strategic planning than the conventional Western literature and models would indicate. High-growth local companies, in comparison, however, had undertaken a more formal and rigorous strategic planning process than other local companies
SU(2) Calorons and Magnetic Monopoles
We investigate the self-dual Yang-Mills gauge configurations on when the gauge symmetry SU(2) is broken to U(1) by the Wilson loop. We
construct the explicit field configuration for a single instanton by the Nahm
method and show that an instanton is composed of two self-dual monopoles of
opposite magnetic charge. We normalize the moduli space metric of an instanton
and study various limits of the field configuration and its moduli space
metric.Comment: 17 pages, RevTex, 1 Figur
The prenylated rab GTPase receptor PRA1.F4 contributes to protein exit from the golgi apparatus
Prenylated Rab acceptor1 (PRA1) functions in the recruitment of prenylated Rab proteins to their cognate organelles. Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) contains a large number of proteins belonging to the AtPRA1 family. However, their physiological roles remain largely unknown. Here, we investigated the physiological role of AtPRA1.F4, a member of the AtPRA1 family. A T-DNA insertion knockdown mutant of AtPRA1.F4, atpra1.f4, was smaller in stature than parent plants and possessed shorter roots, whereas transgenic plants overexpressing HA:AtPRA1.F4 showed enhanced development of secondary roots and root hairs. However, both overexpression and knockdown plants exhibited increased sensitivity to high-salt stress, lower vacuolar Na+/K+-ATPase and plasma membrane ATPase activities, lower and higher pH in the vacuole and apoplast, respectively, and highly vesiculated Golgi apparatus. HA:AtPRA1.F4 localized to the Golgi apparatus and assembled into high-molecular-weight complexes. atpra1.f4 plants displayed a defect in vacuolar trafficking, which was complemented by low but not high levels of HA:AtPRA1.F4. Overexpression of HA:AtPRA1.F4 also inhibited protein trafficking at the Golgi apparatus, albeit differentially depending on the final destination or type of protein: trafficking of vacuolar proteins, plasma membrane proteins, and trans-Golgi network (TGN)-localized SYP61 was strongly inhibited; trafficking of TGN-localized SYP51 was slightly inhibited; and trafficking of secretory proteins and TGN-localized SYP41 was negligibly or not significantly inhibited. Based on these results, we propose that Golgi-localized AtPRA1.F4 is involved in the exit of many but not all types of post-Golgi proteins from the Golgi apparatus. Additionally, an appropriate level of AtPRA1.F4 is crucial for its function at the Golgi apparatus. ? 2017 American Society of Plant Biologists. All rights reserved.111Ysciescopu
Stretched chemical bonds in Si6H6: A transition from ring currents to localized pi-electrons?
Motivated by solid-state studies on the cleavage force in Si, and the
consequent stretching of chemical bonds, we here study bond stretching in the,
as yet unsynthesized, free space molecule Si6H6. We address the question as to
whether substantial bond stretching (but constrained to uniform scaling on all
bonds) can result in a transition from ring current behaviour, characteristic
say of benzene at its equilibrium geometry, to localized pi-electrons on Si
atoms. Some calculations are also recorded on dissociation into 6 SiH radicals.
While the main studies have been carried out by unrestricted Hartree-Fock (HF)
theory, the influence of electron correlation has been examined using two forms
of density functional theory. Planar Si6H6 treated by HF is bound to be
unstable, not all vibrational frequencies being real. Some buckling is then
allowed, which results in real frequencies and stability. Evidence is then
provided that the non-planar structure, as the Si-Si distance is increased,
exhibits pi-electron localization in the range 1.2-1.5 times the equilibrium
distance
Fabrication of FeSe1-x superconducting films with bulk properties
We have fabricated high-quality FeSe1-x superconducting films with a bulk Tc
of 11-12 K on different substrates, Al2O3(0001), SrTiO3(100), MgO(100), and
LaAlO3(100), by using a pulsed laser deposition technique. All the films were
grown at a high substrate temperature of 610 oC, and were preferentially
oriented along the (101) direction, the latter being to be a key to fabricating
of FeSe1-x superconducting thin films with high Tc. According to the energy
dispersive spectroscopy data, the Fe:Se composition ratio was 1:0.90+-0.02. The
FeSe1-x film grown on a SrTiO3 substrate showed the best quality with a high
upper critical magnetic field [Hc2(0)] of 56 T
ADIPLS -- the Aarhus adiabatic oscillation package
Development of the Aarhus adiabatic pulsation code started around 1978.
Although the main features have been stable for more than a decade, development
of the code is continuing, concerning numerical properties and output. The code
has been provided as a generally available package and has seen substantial use
at a number of installations. Further development of the package, including
bringing the documentation closer to being up to date, is planned as part of
the HELAS Coordination Action.Comment: Astrophys. Space Sci., in the pres
Quantum Aspects of Supersymmetric Maxwell Chern-Simons Solitons
We study the various quantum aspects of the supersymmetric Maxwell
Chern-Simons vortex systems. The fermion zero modes around the vortices will
give rise the degenerate states of vortices. We analyze the angular momentum of
these zero modes and apply the result to get the supermultiplet structures of
the vortex. The leading quantum correction to the mass of the vortex coming
from the mode fluctuations is also calculated using various methods depending
on the value of the coefficient of the Chern-Simons term to be zero,
infinite and finite, separately. The mass correction is shown to vanish for all
cases. Fermion numbers of vortices are also discussed.Comment: 40 pages, ReVTeX, HYUPT-94/04 SNUTP 94-6
Magnetic Order in YBaCuO Superconductors
Polarized and unpolarized neutron diffraction has been used to search for
magnetic order in YBaCuO superconductors. Most of the
measurements were made on a high quality crystal of YBaCuO. It
is shown that this crystal has highly ordered ortho-II chain order, and a sharp
superconducting transition. Inelastic scattering measurements display a very
clean spin-gap and pseudogap with any intensity at 10 meV being 50 times
smaller than the resonance intensity. The crystal shows a complicated magnetic
order that appears to have three components. A magnetic phase is found at high
temperatures that seems to stem from an impurity with a moment that is in the
- plane, but disordered on the crystal lattice. A second ordering occurs
near the pseudogap temperature that has a shorter correlation length than the
high temperature phase and a moment direction that is at least partly along the
c-axis of the crystal. Its moment direction, temperature dependence, and Bragg
intensities suggest that it may stem from orbital ordering of the -density
wave (DDW) type. An additional intensity increase occurs below the
superconducting transition. The magnetic intensity in these phases does not
change noticeably in a 7 Tesla magnetic field aligned approximately along the
c-axis. Searches for magnetic order in YBaCuO show no signal
while a small magnetic intensity is found in YBaCuO that is
consistent with c-axis directed magnetic order. The results are contrasted with
other recent neutron measurements.Comment: 11 pages with 10 figure
