BACKGROUND: Age-adjusted lymphoma incidence rates continue to rise in France since the early 80's, although rates have slowed since 2010 and vary across subtypes. Recent improvements in patient survival in major lymphoma subtypes at population level raise new questions about patient outcomes (i.e. quality of life, long-term sequelae). Epidemiological studies have investigated factors related to lymphoma risk, but few have addressed the extent to which socioeconomic status, social institutional context (i.e. healthcare system), social relationships, environmental context (exposures), individual behaviours (lifestyle) or genetic determinants influence lymphoma outcomes, especially in the general population. Moreover, the knowledge of the disease behaviour mainly obtained from clinical trials data is partly biased because of patient selection. METHODS: The REALYSA ("REal world dAta in LYmphoma and Survival in Adults") study is a real-life multicentric cohort set up in French areas covered by population-based cancer registries to study the prognostic value of epidemiological, clinical and biological factors with a prospective 9-year follow-up. We aim to include 6000 patients over 4 to 5 years. Adult patients without lymphoma history and newly diagnosed with one of the following 7 lymphoma subtypes (diffuse large B-cell, follicular, marginal zone, mantle cell, Burkitt, Hodgkin, mature T-cell) are invited to participate during a medical consultation with their hematologist. Exclusion criteria are: having already received anti-lymphoma treatment (except pre-phase) and having a documented HIV infection. Patients are treated according to the standard practice in their center. Clinical data, including treatment received, are extracted from patients' medical records. Patients' risk factors exposures and other epidemiological data are obtained at baseline by filling out a questionnaire during an interview led by a clinical research assistant. Biological samples are collected at baseline and during treatment. A virtual tumor biobank is constituted for baseline tumor samples. Follow-up data, both clinical and epidemiological, are collected every 6 months in the first 3 years and every year thereafter. DISCUSSION: This cohort constitutes an innovative platform for clinical, biological, epidemiological and socio-economic research projects and provides an opportunity to improve knowledge on factors associated to outcome of lymphoma patients in real life. a versatile optical pump–soft X-ray probe facility with 100 fs X-ray pulses of variable polarization

Here the major upgrades of the femtoslicing facility at BESSY II (Khan et al., 2006) are reviewed, giving a tutorial on how elliptical-polarized ultrashort soft X-ray pulses from electron storage rings are generated at high repetition rates. Employing a 6 kHz femtosecond-laser system consisting of two amplifiers that are seeded by one Ti:Sa oscillator, the total average flux of photons of 100 fs duration (FWHM) has been increased by a factor of 120 to up to 106 photons s-1 (0.1% bandwidth)-1 on the sample in the range from 250 to 1400 eV. Thanks to a new beamline design, a factor of 20 enhanced flux and improvements of the stability together with the top-up mode of the accelerator have been achieved. The previously unavoidable problem of increased picosecond- background at higher repetition rates, caused by `halo' photons, has also been solved by hopping between different `camshaft' bunches in a dedicated fill pattern (`3+1 camshaft fill') of the storage ring. In addition to an increased X-ray performance at variable (linear and elliptical) polarization, the sample excitation in pump-probe experiments has been considerably extended using an optical parametric amplifier that supports the range from the near-UV to the far-IR regime. Dedicated endstations covering ultrafast magnetism experiments based on time-resolved X-ray circular dichroism have been either upgraded or, in the case of time-resolved resonant soft X-ray diffraction and reflection, newly constructed and adapted to femtoslicing requirements. Experiments at low temperatures down to 6 K and magnetic fields up to 0.5 T are supported. The FemtoSpeX facility is now operated as a 24 h user facility enabling a new class of experiments in ultrafast magnetism and in the field of transient phenomena and phase transitions in solids

In situ contacting and current-injection into samples in photoemission electron microscopes

Studying the interaction of spin-polarized currents with the magnetization configuration is of high interest due to the possible applications and the novel physics involved. High-resolution magnetic imaging is one of the key techniques necessary for a better understanding of these effects. Here, we present an extension to a magnetic microscope that allows for in situ current injection into the structure investigated, and furthermore for the study of current induced magnetization changes during pulsed current injection. The developed setup is highly flexible and can be used for a wide range of investigations. Examples of current-induced domain wall motion and vortex core displacements measured using this setup are presented

Direct observation of high velocity current induced domain wall motion

We study fast vortex wall propagation in Permalloy wires induced by 3 ns short current pulses with sub 100 ps rise time using high resolution magnetic imaging at zero field. We find a constant domain wall displacement after each current pulse as well as current induced domain wall structure changes, even at these very short timescales. The domain wall velocities are found to be above 100 m/s and independent of the domain wall spin structure. Comparison to experiments with longer pulses points to the pulse shape as the origin of the high velocities

Analysis of the halo background in femtosecond slicing experiments

The slicing facility FemtoSpeX at BESSY II offers unique opportunities to study photo-induced dynamics on femtosecond time scales by means of X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, resonant and non-resonant X-ray diffraction, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy experiments in the soft X-ray regime. Besides femtosecond X-ray pulses, slicing sources inherently also produce a so-called `halo' background with a different time structure, polarization and pointing. Here a detailed experimental characterization of the halo radiation is presented, and a method is demonstrated for its correct and unambiguous removal from femtosecond time-resolved data using a special laser triggering scheme as well as analytical models. Examples are given for time-resolved measurements with corresponding halo correction, and errors of the relevant physical quantities caused by either neglecting or by applying a simplified model to describe this background are estimated

ORFISH - Development of innovative, low-impact offshore fishing practices for small-scale vessels in outermost regions - MARE/2015/06. WP3 Developing and testing low impact fishing techniques

In many European fisheries and particularly ORs, small-scale vessels are often multipurpose targeting different species using different gears. Given the narrow island shelves, vessels may develop their activity in coastal areas, on the edge of the continental shelf or offshore in deep-water or large pelagic fisheries but it is currently difficult to quantify the distribution of fishing effort between the different fishing gears and between the different areas. it is an important issue to better quantify the fishing effort, its spatial and temporal distribution with the principal objective of alleviating fishing pressure on the coastal fishing resources. The EU legislation requires that all coastal EU countries over 12 meters should set up a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS). Used by the fisheries authorities for real time fisheries controls, VMS data and more generally any geo-tracking devices can also be used for knowledge and scientific purposes, especially for the analysis of fishing effort distribution. Without such geo-tracking device for the smaller vessels, it is much more difficult to spatialize the activity of SSCF, strongly dependent of coastal limited territories and highly submitted to concurrent uses. In this study, we propose to experiment the equipment a sample of voluntary fishing vessels with geo-tracking devices in different ORs, in order to follow the distribution of their fishing activity, only for knowledge purposes. The experiment will concern a maximum of 4 voluntary fishers by OR with a strong priority for the vessels involved in the experimental fishing trips (see previous tasks). The Task benefited from the experience of Ifremer, which developed the Recopesca project in the early 2000s, to equip a high-frequency geolocation system for voluntary vessels, including small-scale coastal fishing vessels. https://wwz.ifremer.fr/recopesca/Le-projet-RECOPESCA/Description-du-projet
