Comparing Labor Productivity of Vietnam to Some Asian Countries

In Vietnam, social labor productivity is an indicator of the National Statistical Indicator System (specified in the Law on Statistics), which is calculated by the average GDP per employed worker per year. Research results show that in the 2016-2020 period, labor productivity of the whole economy has improved markedly, with an average increase of 5.78%/year in the 2016-2020 period. However, Vietnam’s labor productivity still has internal limitations that have not been overcome. In comparison with selected Asian countries, Vietnam’s labor productivity has a low absolute value despite its relatively high growth since 1991. In most of the sectors compared, it is basically at the lowest level. As a result, proposing solutions to improve and enhance labor productivity aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth in Vietnam in the coming time is an urgent issue for the development of the country

Influences of employees’ perceptions of corporate social responsibility on job satisfaction – A study in Ho Chi Minh City

The present study aims to explore the influences of employees’ perceptions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on their satisfaction in different sectors. The results of the literature review show that there are three components in employees’ perceptions of CSR, including Philanthropic CSR, Ethical CSR, and Environmental CSR; and it is impacted by Perceived CSR capability, Ethical program, and Perceived fit between corporate culture and CSR activities. The research findings have confirmed the proposed hypotheses; and it is obvious that Employees’ perceptions of CSR have a significant impact on Employees’ satisfaction. From the research findings, there are some crucial points to note. Firstly, firms should design their own ethical programs. Secondly, firms should communicate their CSR practices to improve employees’ perceived CSR capabilities. These points are quite important to increase employee satisfaction

MEDICAL STUDENTS’ EVALUATION OF AN ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES COURSEBOOK: A CASE IN VIETNAM

The current study investigates students’ evaluation of the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) coursebook taught at a medical college in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. After using it for a year, the users, including medical students and their teachers, have given some unofficial feedback on the book. This study provided insightful official information about how its student users perceive the coursebook they were adopting. Data on the evaluations of the ESP coursebook were gained from questionnaires administered to 166 students majoring in nursing and pharmacy in charge of ESP programs. Semi-structured interviews were employed with four students to get more specific apprehension. The results of this study indicated that students were satisfied with the ESP coursebook in terms of the covering of four skills, the presence of vocabulary and grammar, relevant content, understandable social and cultural context, suitability for mix-level students. In addition, participants perceived that communicative skills were not sufficiently presented, examples in grammar were not more interesting, the illustrations were not diverse and enough, and the cover was simple but not appealing. Suggestions regarding the pedagogical implications for the adoption and evaluation of the coursebook were discussed

Determinants of customer's apartment purchase intention: is the location dominant?

The purpose of this research is to identify and measure the factors affecting the intention to buy apartments of customers in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The survey carried out with the participation of 200 customers. The authors explore five factors which affect customer's apartment purchase intention include location, features, brand, finance, and subjective norm. The result from Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) shows that location, features, finance, and subjective norm have a significant effect on the intention to buy customers' apartments. In which, location in Ho Chi Minh City context is the most influential factor, so, it strongly confirm the research of Adair et al. (1996), Clark et al. (2006), Daly et al. (2003), Kaynak and Stevenson (2007), Opoku and AbdulMuhmin (2010), Sengul et al. (2010), Tu and Goldfinch (1996), Xiao and Tan (2007) and Wang and Li (2006). The study also proposes some recommendations to increase the attractiveness of the apartment. What is more, developers, marketers, real estate policymakers can use the results of this research to understand the needs of customers better and satisfy customers

Advanced SOM & K Mean Method for Load Curve Clustering

From the load curve classification for one customer, the main features such as the seasonal factors, the weekday factors influencing on the electricity consumption may be extracted. By this way some utilities can make decision on the tariff by seasons or by day in week. The popular clustering techniques are the SOM & K-mean or Fuzzy K-mean. SOM &Kmean is a prominent approach for clustering with a two-level approach: first, the data set will be clustered using the SOM and in the second level, the SOM will be clustered by K-mean. In the first level, two training algorithms were examined: sequential and batch training. For the second level, the K-mean has the results that are strongly depended on the initial values of the centers. To overcome this, this paper used the subtractive clustering approach proposed by Chiu in 1994 to determine the centers. Because the effective radius in Chiu’s method has some influence on the number of centers, the paper applied the PSO technique to find the optimum radius. Government’s and professional associations’ roles in promoting corporate social resposibility – An exploratory in Vietnamese construction firms

With this large number of operating company, the construction industry in Vietnam needs the direction and supports from the government and professional associations not only in policies, business strategies, information about construction but also in leading and providing CSR information and instruction. By employing qualitative approach with in-depth interview as the main method to collect data, this study is to explore actual managers’ perspectives of the current roles of these two stakeholders in CSR and their expectations for the upcoming years. Two worthy notes need to be concerned. The first note is that the roles of government are really important in issuing appropriate policies and treating businesses fairly.
