A comparison of transgenic rodent mutation and in vivo comet assay responses for 91 chemicals.
A database of 91 chemicals with published data from both transgenic rodent mutation (TGR) and rodent comet assays has been compiled. The objective was to compare the sensitivity of the two assays for detecting genotoxicity. Critical aspects of study design and results were tabulated for each dataset. There were fewer datasets from rats than mice, particularly for the TGR assay, and therefore, results from both species were combined for further analysis. TGR and comet responses were compared in liver and bone marrow (the most commonly studied tissues), and in stomach and colon evaluated either separately or in combination with other GI tract segments. Overall positive, negative, or equivocal test results were assessed for each chemical across the tissues examined in the TGR and comet assays using two approaches: 1) overall calls based on weight of evidence (WoE) and expert judgement, and 2) curation of the data based on a priori acceptability criteria prior to deriving final tissue specific calls. Since the database contains a high prevalence of positive results, overall agreement between the assays was determined using statistics adjusted for prevalence (using AC1 and PABAK). These coefficients showed fair or moderate to good agreement for liver and the GI tract (predominantly stomach and colon data) using WoE, reduced agreement for stomach and colon evaluated separately using data curation, and poor or no agreement for bone marrow using both the WoE and data curation approaches. Confidence in these results is higher for liver than for the other tissues, for which there were less data. Our analysis finds that comet and TGR generally identify the same compounds (mainly potent mutagens) as genotoxic in liver, stomach and colon, but not in bone marrow. However, the current database content precluded drawing assay concordance conclusions for weak mutagens and non-DNA reactive chemicals

Synthesis and Photocatalytic Activity for Toluene Removal of CDs/TiO2 - Zeolite Y
Hydrothermally synthesized carbon nanodots (CDs) were impregnated on TiO2. The product (CDs/TiO2) was mechanically mixed with zeolite Y for application in toluene photocatalytic oxidation reaction under UV radiation. Material properties of the samples were investigated by different methods. Toluene vapor was chosen as a typical volatile organic compound to investigate the performance of CDs/TiO2 – zeolite Y photocatalyst when these technological parameters were changed: toluene concentration, gas flow rate, humidity and UV light intensity. In each reaction, only one parameter was changed and the remaining conditions were fixed. The toluene concentrations at the beginning and the end of each reaction were analyzed with the use of gas chromatography (GC). The results of different reaction conditions show the trends for toluene treatment of the CDs/TiO2 – zeolite Y catalyst, thereby providing specific explanations for these trends. The experiments also show that toluene removal is highest when the toluene concentration in the inlet gas is 314 ppmv, the flow rate is 3 L/h, the humidity is 60%, and the catalyst (CDs/TiO2 – zeolite Y composite with 70% zeolite in weight) is illuminated by 4 UV lamps. Well-posed results for nonlocal biparabolic equation with linear and nonlinear source terms
In this paper, we consider the biparabolic problem under nonlocal conditions with both linear and nonlinear source terms. We derive the regularity property of the mild solution for the linear source term while we apply the Banach fixed-point theorem to study the existence and uniqueness of the mild solution for the nonlinear source term. In both cases, we show that the mild solution of our problem converges to the solution of an initial value problem as the parameter epsilon tends to zero. Destruction of density-wave states by a pseudo-gap in high magnetic fields: application to (TMTSF)ClO
A model is presented for the destruction of density-wave states in
quasi-one-dimensional crystals by high magnetic fields. The model is consistent
with previously unexplained properties of the organic conductors
(TMTSF)ClO and (BEDT-TTF)MHg(SCN) (M=K,Rb,Tl). As the magnetic
field increases quasi-one-dimensional density-wave fluctuations increase,
producing a pseudo-gap in the electronic density of states near the transition
temperature. When the pseudo-gap becomes larger than the mean-field transition

Towards a Visual-Language Foundation Model for Computational Pathology
The accelerated adoption of digital pathology and advances in deep learning
have enabled the development of powerful models for various pathology tasks
across a diverse array of diseases and patient cohorts. However, model training
is often difficult due to label scarcity in the medical domain and the model's
usage is limited by the specific task and disease for which it is trained.
Additionally, most models in histopathology leverage only image data, a stark
contrast to how humans teach each other and reason about histopathologic
entities. We introduce CONtrastive learning from Captions for Histopathology
(CONCH), a visual-language foundation model developed using diverse sources of
histopathology images, biomedical text, and notably over 1.17 million
image-caption pairs via task-agnostic pretraining. Evaluated on a suite of 13
diverse benchmarks, CONCH can be transferred to a wide range of downstream
tasks involving either or both histopathology images and text, achieving
state-of-the-art performance on histology image classification, segmentation,
captioning, text-to-image and image-to-text retrieval. CONCH represents a
substantial leap over concurrent visual-language pretrained systems for
histopathology, with the potential to directly facilitate a wide array of
machine learning-based workflows requiring minimal or no further supervised
fine-tuning

Detection of violations of open-pit mining lease boundaries using Sentinel-2 MSI data in the case of Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces of North Vietnam
Illegal mining, including the violation of lease boundaries during the extraction of mineral deposits in Vietnam, has witnessed a significant surge in recent years, leading to substantial environmental degradation. Due to the remote locations of mining areas in relation to settlements, the detection of illegal mining activities using conventional methods poses considerable challenges. This study presents a methodology for identifying lease boundary violations in open-pit mining of mineral deposits by utilizing high-resolution satellite images from the Sentinel-2 MSI system. The proposed methodology involves overlaying Sentinel-2 MSI radar-acquired satellite images to identify disparities between approved lease boundaries and actual boundaries of mining areas. The research focuses on the mineral-rich provinces of Lao Cai and Yen Bai in North Vietnam. The findings of this research rhold great potential for effectively monitoring and promptly detecting violations of mining lease boundaries
