Neutron monitoring and electrode calorimetry experiments in the HIP-1 Hot Ion Plasma
Results are presented for two diagnostic procedures on HIP-1: neutron diagnostics to determine where neutrons originated within the plasma discharge chamber and electrode calorimetry to measure the steady-state power absorbed by the two anodes and cathodes. Results are also reported for a hot-ion plasma formed with a continuous-cathode rod, one that spans the full length of the test section, in place of the two hollow cathodes. The outboard neutron source strength increased relative to that at the midplane when (1) the cathode tips were moved farther outboard, (2) the anode diameters were increased, and (3) one of the anodes was removed. The distribution of neutron sources within the plasma discharge chamber was insensitive to the division of current between the two cathodes. For the continuous cathode, increasing the discharge current increased the midplane neutron source strength relative to the outboard source strength. Each cathode absorbed from 12 to 15 percent of the input power regardless of the division of current between the cathodes. The anodes absorbed from 20 to 40 percent of the input power. Hot ion plasma production in HIP-1 using water-cooled hollow cathodes
A steady-state ExB plasma was formed by applying a strong radially inward dc electric field near the mirror throats. Most of the results were for hydrogen, but deuterium and helium plasmas were also studied. Three water-cooled hollow cathodes were operated in the hot-ion plasma mode with the following results: (1) thermally emitting cathodes were not required to achieve the hot-ion mode; (2) steady-state operation (several minutes) was attained; (3) input powers greater than 40 kW were achieved; (4) cathode outside diameters were increased from 1.2 cm (uncooled) to 4.4 cm (water-cooled); (5) steady-state hydrogen plasma with ion temperatures from 185 to 770 eV and electron temperatures from 5 to 21 eV were produced. Scaling relations were empirically obtained for discharge current, ion temperature, electron temperature, and relative ion density as a function of hydrogen gas feed rate, magnetic field, and cathode voltage. Neutrons were produced from deuterium plasma, but it was not established whether thay came from the plasma volume or from the electrode surfaces
The NASA controls-structures interaction technology program
The interaction between a flexible spacecraft structure and its control system is commonly referred to as controls-structures interaction (CSI). The CSI technology program is developing the capability and confidence to integrate the structure and control system, so as to avoid interactions that cause problems and to exploit interactions to increase spacecraft capability. A NASA program has been initiated to advance CSI technology to a point where it can be used in spacecraft design for future missions. The CSI technology program is a multicenter program utilizing the resources of the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The purpose is to describe the current activities, results to date, and future activities of the NASA CSI technology program

Quantitative Dual-Energy CT Image Guidance for Thermochemical Ablation: In Vivo Results in the Rabbit VX2 Model
PURPOSE: To evaluate the feasibility of using dual-energy computed tomography (CT) and theranostic cesium hydroxide (CsOH) for image guidance of thermochemical ablation (TCA) in a rabbit VX2 tumor model.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In vivo experiments were performed on New Zealand white rabbits, where VX2 tumor fragments (0.3 mL) were inoculated into the right and left flanks (n = 16 rabbits, 32 tumors). Catheters were placed in the approximate center of 1- to 2-cm diameter tumors under ultrasound guidance. TCA was delivered in 1 of 3 treatment groups: untreated control, 5-M TCA, or 10-M TCA. The TCA base reagent was doped with 250-mM CsOH. Dual-energy CT was performed before and after TCA. Cesium (CS)-specific images were postprocessed on the basis of previous phantom calibrations to determine Cs concentration. Line profiles were drawn through the ablation center. Twenty-four hours after TCA, subjects were euthanized, and the resulting damage was evaluated with histopathology.
RESULTS: Cs was detected in 100% of treated tumors (n = 21). Line profiles indicated highest concentrations at the injection site and decreased concentrations at the tumor margins, with no Cs detected beyond the ablation zone. The maximum detected Cs concentration ranged from 14.39 to 137.33 mM. A dose-dependent trend in tissue necrosis was demonstrated between the 10-M TCA and 5-M TCA treatment groups (P = .0005) and untreated controls (P = .0089).
CONCLUSIONS: Dual-energy CT provided image guidance for delivery, localization, and quantification of TCA in the rabbit VX2 model
The Case for Dynamic Models of Learners' Ontologies in Physics
In a series of well-known papers, Chi and Slotta (Chi, 1992; Chi & Slotta,
1993; Chi, Slotta & de Leeuw, 1994; Slotta, Chi & Joram, 1995; Chi, 2005;
Slotta & Chi, 2006) have contended that a reason for students' difficulties in
learning physics is that they think about concepts as things rather than as
processes, and that there is a significant barrier between these two
ontological categories. We contest this view, arguing that expert and novice
reasoning often and productively traverses ontological categories. We cite
examples from everyday, classroom, and professional contexts to illustrate
this. We agree with Chi and Slotta that instruction should attend to learners'
ontologies; but we find these ontologies are better understood as dynamic and
context-dependent, rather than as static constraints. To promote one
ontological description in physics instruction, as suggested by Slotta and Chi,
could undermine novices' access to productive cognitive resources they bring to
their studies and inhibit their transition to the dynamic ontological

Tawuran antar pelajar: penelitian di SMK Diponegoro Kecamatan Ploso dan SMK Dwijaya Bhakti Jombang
Ada dua persoalan yang dikaji dalam penelitian ini, yaitu: (1) Faktor apa saja yang menyebabkan terjadinya aksi tawuran antar pelajar di SMK Diponegoro Kecamatan Ploso dan SMK Dwijaya Bhakti Jombang; (2) Faktor apa yang paling dominan yang meyebabkan terjadinya tawuran antar pelajar. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apa saja faktor-faktor penyebab terjadinya tawuran antar pelajar dan faktor yang paing dominan penyebab terjadinya tawuran antar pelajar. Untuk mengungkap persoalan tersebut secara menyeluruh dan mendalam maka dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif yang bersifat kualitatif dalam menganalisis data-data yang diperoleh dilapangan melalui observasi, interview dan dokumentasi. Kemudian data tersebut dianalisis dengan dasar teori Konflik Lewis A. Coser tentang adanya konflik yang dapat menimbulkan dampak positif terhadap kelompok dalam. Hal ini dimaksudkan adanya konflik yang dapat meningkatkan rasa solidaritas clan kebersamaan antara satu dengan yang lain karena faktor lingkungan keseharian mereka yang mengharuskan untuk ikut terlibat kedalam aksi tawuran antar pelajar, mereka bersatu untuk melindungi kelompok mereka dari siapapun yang mengganggu dan menyakiti anggota dalam kelompok yang sudah mereka bentuk. Dari hasil penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa (I) Faktor penyebab terjadinya tawuran antar pelajar adalah faktor lingkungan dan pergaulan, faktor membela teman, faktor balas dendam, faktor keluarga serta pengaruh perubahan zaman (2) Dari beberapa faktor yang telah dikemukakan faktor lingkungan merupakan faktor yang paling dominan dan paling berpangaruh terhadap terjadinya tawuran antar pelajar, karena baik dan buruknya tingkah laku remaja semua itu tidak akan lepas dari lingkungan tempat mereka beradaptasi dan menghabiskan waktu kesehariannya dengan teman-teman mereka
Body Fat Free Mass Is Associated with the Serum Metabolite Profile in a Population-Based Study
To characterise the influence of the fat free mass on the metabolite profile in serum samples from participants of the population-based KORA (Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg) S4 study. Analyses were based on metabolite profile from 965 participants of the S4 and 890 weight-stable subjects of its seven-year follow-up study (KORA F4). 190 different serum metabolites were quantified in a targeted approach including amino acids, acylcarnitines, phosphatidylcholines (PCs), sphingomyelins and hexose. Associations between metabolite concentrations and the fat free mass index (FFMI) were analysed using adjusted linear regression models. To draw conclusions on enzymatic reactions, intra-metabolite class ratios were explored. Pairwise relationships among metabolites were investigated and illustrated by means of Gaussian graphical models (GGMs). We found 339 significant associations between FFMI and various metabolites in KORA S4. Among the most prominent associations (p-values 4.75 × 10(-16)-8.95 × 10(-06)) with higher FFMI were increasing concentrations of the branched chained amino acids (BCAAs), ratios of BCAAs to glucogenic amino acids, and carnitine concentrations. For various PCs, a decrease in chain length or in saturation of the fatty acid moieties could be observed with increasing FFMI, as well as an overall shift from acyl-alkyl PCs to diacyl PCs. These findings were reproduced in KORA F4. The established GGMs supported the regression results and provided a comprehensive picture of the relationships between metabolites. In a sub-analysis, most of the discovered associations did not exist in obese subjects in contrast to non-obese subjects, possibly indicating derangements in skeletal muscle metabolism. A set of serum metabolites strongly associated with FFMI was identified and a network explaining the relationships among metabolites was established. These results offer a novel and more complete picture of the FFMI effects on serum metabolites in a data-driven network
